Carmantrout
CONGRATULATIONS Perry Meridian! 4 wrestlers under the lights, 3 champs,(1 was the 8th ranked kid in his weight class), & won your 3rd straight team title. More impressively, you broke a 32 year old record for most team points ever scored in a state tournament. Congratulations to Yorktown on an impressive 2nd place finish, Great Job Eliah Walker! Great year guys, keep up the good work!
MattM
Minor point of correction. PM scored the most Team Points during the state finals that determine a Team State Champion. It would not be the most points ever scored in the state tournament, a honor I believe goes to EMD in 2002 (during Dual Championship Era). An impressive showing none the less for the falcons who have shown their dominance all year and as a result brought home their third team title in a row. zachpierson
well i imagine EMD 's first round was scored. i know they would still beat perry's score by 30 points or so
MattM
Yes, another point of emphasis. IHSAA was lame for recognizing how the tournament series works and not scoring the first round, which would have added to PM total.
Carmantrout
Delta set the team score record of 99 in 1981. Perry broke that record this year and now holds the team score record at the individual state tourney. The IHSAA did not keep score at the tourney in 2002, so therefore Perry holds the current state record. Any questions, please refer to the IHSAA website. Loki27
I think it was 1981 and didn't they only score to fourth place back then?
MattM
1984... The record is the record You want all questions to be refereed to the IHSAA website but yet it and the State Finals book both says 1981 Delta with 99 points. http://www.ihsaa.org/Sports/Boys/Wrestling/StateFinalsRecords/tabid/321/Default.aspx# The 1984 Delta score was 90.5 points (reference Dave Holman's Ready Wrestle History of Indiana State High School Wrestling Tournament). Either way PM has the new points record in the Tournament Team Champion Era.
HOF93
Until the late 80's or maybe the early 90's, there were only 4 places awarded at the State Finals. A wrestler could make it to the Semi-finals and NOT PLACE IN THE TOP 4. If you lost in the semis, you would have to immediately wrestle the person who lost in the quarterfinals to the finalist who had just beaten you. Think about how unfair that was!!! You just lost your chance to be in the Championship match, and you had to wrestle someone who hadn't wrestled since 9 - 11 that morning. That person is mentally and physically ready to be back in the hunt for a medal while you have just lost the most important match of your life. If you lose that match, you get NOTHING but a bus ride home.
1prouddad
Well I wonder if IHSAA will put Sliga's 31 second pinfall in there or not
MattM
Well I wonder if IHSAA will put Sliga's 31 second pinfall in there or not From the IHSAA records Fastest Fall in State Finals: :11 by Pat Day, Mishawaka, 2006. Fastest Fall in Championship Match: :20 by Richard Voliva, Bloomington, 1930. I'm guessing Sliga would have one of the faster times in a state championship match though. hook and half
Delta set the team score record of 99.5 in 1984. Perry broke that record this year and now holds the team score record at the individual state tourney. The IHSAA did not keep score at the tourney in 2002, so therefore Perry holds the current state record. Any questions, please refer to the IHSAA website. a state record that was earned by a great team. and every time that record is mentioned the 2002 asterisk will present itself. BB145
only in southern IN.... So then you'd say PM team this year would beat MD in 2002? Or even score higher in the same format? Not a chance. They did however dominate this year. Impressive still
