Wrestler moving to Indiana

Carmel and Portage are great choices...along with many others listed as well.  The city of Carmel is also highly rated as one of the best places to live nationally.   If you are looking to stay close to the LaPorte area...there is also New Prairie HS.  Not a Powerhouse...but they usually have a good program.  The towns New Carlisle and Rolling Prairie are nice too, if you don't mind small town life.

As far as camps...see the thread I started about two days ago.  Got lots of great replies.  Currently on page 3 of the messageboard.  Hope that helps!

I believe any team in the DAC would be a great choice for your son. The top 3 would be Crown Point, Merrillville, and Portage. Each of these schools are tough as nails and would help your son not only excel on the mat but also in the classroom. As far as offseason wrestling goes CIA Northwest, which is located at Hanover Highschool in Cedar lake goes year round and alot of elite wrestlers train there.

Purdue University offers an excellent club that includes all of their wrestlers as members.  Big Ten wrestlers and coaches working with and wrestling with high school and youth wrestlers.  Boiler Elite Wrestling club.  If you want to be closer to Noblesville, there are also many very fine quality clubs and school programs in the Indy area.

There are several clubs in Indianapolis and in northen Indiana that run year round as do a number of school clubs.  We do have some state restrictions but the ISWA groups provide a way to get in extra practice and mat time.   The CIA group on the WEST side of INDY runs a excellant room.

CIA also runs year round, in the heart of IN wrestling. THE REGION!!

is DARE ANY wraslin in Indiana besides da region ?

Does IU have anything like that?

Regarding the schools (academically) in the area(s) that you are considering moving to ...

I would recommend checking out the Indiana Dept of Education Web Site and take a look at the "school/student performance data"  (ACT/SAT scores, graduation rates etc)

             http://www.doe.in.gov/data/

You can poke around on the IHSAA wrestling web site and get a feel for the schools that have had great wrestling success in Indiana (in recent years) ....

            http://www.ihsaa.org/b-wrestling_frame.htm

You can check  indianamat.com's  individual rankings and get a feel for what schools have (underclassmen) studs at what weigh classes that might provide great training partners for your son

Hey, were on the rise like Portage.  Top 5 in Lake County.

BTW, did you wrestle in the Midwest Classic (IL) before HS.  If I recall correctly you were the talk of the IL boards after you beat some of their best.  Good luck this year except against Estrada.  ;)

Lake County?  ;)

Yes, I did.  8th grade was a long time ago!

Thank you for the luck and I'll go a step further and wish Estrada luck through his entire senior season.

P.S. y2 has to be joking!

Maybe... But you might also get a couple blue rings, whether you start or not.

LOL ... one other indicator to watch for ..... schools with students that spend their school day on chat boards instead of studying (hint:  see above) ...  ;D

Have you ever been to Garret?  It is a very nice community!  Its a lot better than Portage.

Y2, you ever heard of South Haven?  It's a part of portage where kids do brawl and fight.  and it's also the home of multiple high school state champions...  Including Leroy Vega!  (=

And they can spell South Haven and Portage correctly...  ;D

Might be news to ya, but you need some toughness to wrastle! haha.

When you are a techer's aide and have nothing to do it is AOK!

Bloomington South High School

24 Team State Championships

122 Individual State Champions

38 - Most Individual Champions under one coach

7 ? Most Individual State Champions in one year

TheAncientElder (TAE)

The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana.

I wear my Fez with pride.

This is also a message I received today from an antonymous person, proof that it isn't win at all costs.

"you coaches do a great job at oak hill...the most respectful group of kids year in and year out...always good sports and very disciplined. and your youth program is looking very impressive im sure there are some great years coming up for oak hill. every school needs that good of a youth program!
