  1. Past hour
  2. We’re restarting RTC May 22.
  3. Today
  4. You need at least 75 officials for the event to run smoothly and have enough officials for 3 per mat with the ability to rotate officials for breaks. That's not easy to find that many freestyle/greco officials in this area. I know how difficult it can be to find 25 high level officials for IHPO!
  5. The competition was phenomenal. The challenge process is necessary, but must be improved. I coached a match in the consos that had 3 officials, then 20 minutes later, a semi-final that had 1. This is a serious flaw.
  6. From my few hours there the challenges took forever and mostly were a waste of time. I'm not sure I'm a fan of challenges at this level of competition.
  7. The challenges were a big reason for some extremely long matches. The first few hours of the tournament seemed to run very smooth. But saw multiple coaches just throw the brick to see if it could change the result ( which it seemed to do in some cases). I saw a couple of coaches trying to help some of the younger refs on obvious wrong call that both agreed on to which told to let them make the call. In semi finals some mats had only one match ref there and no one to assist with the on the mat official. Overall a great tournament especially with the competition that comes to Indiana to compete.
  8. It will be even better when Central Regionals is a qualifier for a national-level girls' tournament for 14U and below.
  9. I remember Steve being a constant help at the Beech Grove meets (HS or Freestyle season) that I attended as a wrestler and later as a coach. While I only had a few chances to briefly speak with him at these events he always was a stand up guy. He will be missed by the program and I'm sure many others in the wrestling community.
  10. To Ben Franklin's list of inevitable items in life I would add seeing Steve Nontell in his trademark orange pants at a big wrestling event. Always friendly, always a pleasure to see him. Rest in Peace, Steve.
  11. that's nearly a 1/3 increase in a year, which is pretty outstanding
  12. Last year - 218 girls wrestled Freestyle in all divisions combined. This year - 286 girls wrestled Freestyle in all divisions combined. Add in another 57 that wrestled Greco.
  13. I'd be curious to know how much of that growth is being lead by girls wrestling? Honestly, that has been the biggest surprise (in an extremely positive way) in terms of post season participation this year.
  14. Let's take into account Central Regionals last year to this year. Last year, there were about 1,900 athletes. This year, administration added 6 more mats and there were over 2,400 athletes registered. It seems to trending into the right direction!
  15. Due to Finals, there will be no RTC this week.
  16. Last minute opening if anyone is interested (765-602-2118) Confirmed Teams: Daleville Bloomington South Decatur Central Fort Wayne Carroll Cascade
  17. Yesterday
  18. Witch way are the numbers trending for off season participation?
  19. Watched at least 5 matches that had last second scores that decided the match. The match was over on the clock represented to the wrestlers. The clocks had about 2-3 seconds on the ones on TrackWrestling. Coaches would challenge last second calls and get them because of the clocks being off. USA Wrestling needs to do better. Cost a ton of kids matches.
  20. No one from FS is getting sent to Budapest apart from Hassan.
  21. That's a pretty glass half empty outlook on a pretty good weekend. We have been behind numbers wise from Illinois and Ohio forever and that doesnt resolve overnight. It's my understanding that every one of those names listed above have individually qualified for Fargo, meaning that if they were top 3 at ISWA, that spot is now freed up to allow MORE Indiana wrestlers a chance to gain experience in a great Fargo environment. I would say it will take some improved communication from the state level and hopefully some statewide encouragement to sign kids up for the spots...but that list of names from this weekend all showed up and put in work that we should celebrate and build off of. Congrats to not only those who placed, but all who competed, keep putting in the work!!
  22. It's been confirmed that Nick is still competing in freestyle. Everything I have heard from Penn State guys is they think he's going to be a superstar as a coach. I wouldn't mind him coming back to Indiana and taking over for Ersland someday at Purdue.
  23. How bout the number of Ohio kids and Illinois kids versus Indiana kids. Those numbers aren't good for Indiana wrestling at all.
  24. Ben Davino vs Jordyn Raney would've been worth the price of admission.
  25. Related to the clocks - don't have a scoreboard showing a clock that is different from the clock that is used for reviewing whether points are scored before time expires.
