  1. Really wish Indiana would shorten the folkstyle season and make freestyle much longer. Freestyle is more fun to watch and coach with more action and less stalling.
  2. I'm not sure about the 15 minute mandatory time break has caused that much more injuries. I think maybe if someone got a nice shiner to the eye, that obviously it's not going to heal that day, but within 15 minutes and wrestling again, it could get pretty swollen and aggravated. We have a wrestler, albeit in a younger class of Novice, wrestle 5 matches that all had to wait on the 15 minute mandatory break. They were able to split up the weight class to two mats and run odds and evens. His match would be done, they'd get another 1 or two in then he'd be up again once 15 minutes hit. It was more of a test of his endurance and conditioning at that point. All I could pretty much tell him to do was, stay stretched out and stay warm.
  3. Can't say this enough. Also, if you are a parent, please watch your children during the day, or at least check on them. I don't know how many were sneaking off into back hallways, jumping on stuff they didn't need to be on without a parent in site. If you can't watch them, please find someone to watch them while you attend. It is out of courtesy and respect to the school, the ISWA staff and volunteers. I was coaching one of the last matches Saturday night in the main gym with the Cadets. I can't believe how much trash people leave sitting behind without putting it in a trash can. I know their are custodians paid to clean, but isn't it just common courtesy to throw your own mess away?
  4. Sounded like it was a pro-Lee crowd, but Red did still get a lot of cheers once he got the victory. Pretty good match and hopefully that caught the attention of a bunch of young wrestlers. Maybe it'll fuel them to work hard to get under the lights and help make Indiana a better wrestling community in all.
  5. Do these schools have very good feeder/club programs in place? Usually it's a good indicator of a decent club/program in place, when you have good numbers for a middle school(for smaller schools). Big schools will always have decent turn outs just based on school attendance #'s. We've always had a decent sized school, but our middle school numbers have been pretty good since I took over the club several years ago. Can only hope the high school coaches can help find some dads to get a club/feeder program started and headed in the right direction.
  6. Cologne and now autographs from Tsirtsis and Escobedo.
  7. No copyright infringement here. Whiteland student designed the "Warriors" logo several years ago. If you see someone else with this logo, they look it from Whiteland.
  8. If you can convince this to the IHSAA with the fact of more money being possible, this might open their eyes.
  9. Another positive, if the weight classes were changed around, the big boys would actually have a crowd there watching them. Every year around 195-220 people start leaving so there's only a few hundred people left watching the big guys that rightfully deserve a crowd. The final 132 lb match is a win win, given its Lee and Red. As for fans leaving, I'm sure if they announce the order and have the face off in the proper order with announcer listing accomplishments, most fans would certainly stick around for it. If they don't then that's on them for only being a casual fan and missing what will hopefully be a fun match. Plus that means, more fans can move closer to the action.
  10. What? Not sure what that has to do with this, but there was a whole 3 page discussion regarding peoples predictions for Evansville SS as well as this thread. They usually have a google hangout mid-week to discuss upcoming matches. My thought is that the IHSAA doesn't care about what's going on a discussion board. But if this thread isn't long enough, how bout sparking up a little more conversation to keep it rolling? Couple of ideas for ya.... You could get into individual match ups that intrigue you. Who's style of wrestling matches up with someone else's style to give them an advantage(Van Horn's close firemans/high crotch vs Whitaker who's longer and has good hims to slow it down), etc.
  11. Looks like I'll have to tune in periodically throughout the day. Not going to be able to make it down, so I expect nonstop streaming and endless hours of entertainment. Thank you in advanced for the ongoing updates and information. Trackwrestling can only provide so much information.
  12. What are the ages for this or what does your club have? We've got a wide range and a couple HS kids that are out of the tournament that would like some more mat time. Won't be able to make it this week, but if you have another on the 19th, we would probably attend.
  13. He's up to 48% with the girls basketball player at 42%. Wrestlers could always use more attention.
  14. Seems like the coaches have pushed for it quite a bit in years past based on the responses from this board. It's more of the IHSAA not listening or hearing what wrestling wants.
  15. Anyone know if this will be live streamed on trackcast or anywhere? I will be heading down to watch, but I know some people won't be able to and would like to tune in for a match or two.
  16. The sportsmanship shown here is some top quality stuff. Might have to use this as some training material, as in "don't be that guy" type of material. Win with class, lose with class.
  17. I have been pushing hard for the past 8-9 years to get some of the bigger football players into the wrestling room. Problem is they think they have to lose weight, when they don't need to do anything except keep eating. Some of Whiteland's best line have wrestled for at least a year or two at the middle school level. How much better could they be if they continued to wrestle? I just don't understand why some of these football coaches still don't catch on to this, especially for their linemen. Nick Hardwick for example, never even played HS football and only wrestled. Still became a very good O lineman at Purdue and on to the SD Chargers.
  18. Warriors kicked off the year against CG Central last night. CG gave up quite a bit of forfeits unfortunately. Warriors 81 CG Central 33
  19. What kind of injury did Lee suffer? I haven't been on the boards to know anything. I'm leaning towards Red, but it should be one heck of a match if/when they meet. Only one winner on the mat, but all the fans win if they face each other(especially under the lights.)
  20. Looks like Mooresville has loaded the brackets up to 195 so far at 11:30. I would imagine they'll be completed to HWT here shortly. Ryan suffered an ACL tear during summer football camp. He wasn't cleared to practice/wrestle until the past weekend.
  21. Looking at the Avon 106 bracket, all 4 wrestlers will advance to semi's and move on to regionals. There is 6 forfeits out of the 10 possible spots.
  22. Well if you are in the Carmel school district, look no further, those guys up there have been putting together a pretty solid program over the past couple of years. I would check them out. I'm sure you can find their club page, or twitter account pretty easy by searching Carmel USA wrestling club. At 6, any club will be sufficient in getting them introduced. I think the first year or two should be able letting the kid have fun. If they take a great interest to it, the following year you can really start stepping up a more solid workout routine, more intense practices and training. Just my 2 cents though.
  23. Tonight, Whiteland is at Plainfield 6pm. Whiteland is going to have quite a bit of young guys in the varsity lineup so we'll see how well they do in their first dual meet. Saturday Whiteland travels to the New Castle Duals. Not sure what other schools are in attendance. Anyone have a list?
  24. Just a thought, are some schools starting their spring breaks this weekend or am I a week early? I know a lot of schools, at least in the Indy area, are going to the "graduated" calendar and maybe the spring break is ridiculously early this year? The only way to get our participant #'s up is to continue promoting the sport at a young age and getting them introduced. We've gone to a more of a fun relaxed practice with little guys to encourage them to come back year after year. We aren't quite as competitive, but I'm more interested in having a big group of kids that once they get to middle school can turn over to an academy, or work one on one with me to really step up their game. Either way, ISWA is trying to get more people back to the local tournaments. They're not trying to handcuff anyone on purpose, they would just like to see more participation at the local events. For the ISWA to focus on one style, would be pretty bad, as it'd lose it's primary money maker and any funding for their organisation would be strapped. I do believe that Freestyle state should maybe be a couple weeks later. My thoughts, maybe the ISWA waive the fees or something, that would help out a few dollars for each club hosting a freestyle/greco tournament.
  25. Are you getting a good mix of sizes of wrestlers in there? We've got a group from about 95 up to 130 that are 7th/8th graders looking to get some time with high school wrestlers. Just wonder if you have many in that weight range?
