  1. I am going to have to agree with Coach Snyder for the most part... Positives: Tournament Classed New teams Purposed to build revenue Negatives: NO TEAM STATE DUAL MEET CHAMPION... Coach, Peck well thought out and great proposal. I am excited to see some coaches making a move to salvage team state (regardless of form) and most importantly advance the name of wrestling. However, no true team state champion makes this nothing more than a glorified dual meet. Honestly, based on the consistent difficulty of Bellmont Duals if they just invited EMD and Cathedral we could just go ahead and crown a champion there. A classed tournament is a great idea because it would bring in different teams from all around the state and after each pool is completed the winners could compete in a dual (triple or quadruple) depending on the amount of pools and crown a true champion. Also, I appreciate Coach Snyder's interest in salvaging the team tournament and his passion for the sport. Any coach willing to fight this hard for team state will without question back up and push his wrestlers under any circumstance. Regardless, of the final outcome thank you both for your contribution to the sport.
  2. Good point. They seem to be just a great athletic school. I know while I was attending the University of Southern Indiana it seemed like they were good in just about every sport.
  3. Very good rating system. But I do think Indiana if they brought all their top studs to each and every tournament would be a little better. I am not saying they would be top 5 but I could see them being as high as 6 (on a real good year) or 7. Either way awesome rating system. I like it and thanks for the post.
  4. How is Mater Dei looking this year? I just expect them to be good since they have consistently produced a quality product on and off the mat. I would love to see them win state this year Coach Shafer deserves one. Absolutely one of the best guys on or off the mat you could ever care to meet.
  5. I'll agree with you Perry will win. The only prediction I'd switch is BG- 4th and FC- 5th. Not that I am bias or anything. haha Should be a great weekend of wrestling I hope everyone does great.
  6. I would like to cite this as the reason WC182Dad should NOT be removed from the site. Despite all the joking and unfair (at times) criticism he takes for some of his off the wall statements I have seen now on multiple occasions his offering of prayer toward families and now a willingness to help a family in need. Despite the somewhat satirical nature your post WC182Dad- I have much respect for individuals willing to help out others. That might be one of the reasons I am going into full time ministry but still not exactly sure (hahaha).
  7. I did a little more digging for the BG lineup and this is all information solely based upon the sectional results from last year so a lot has probably changed since then (I am sure). I am posting last years weight and their record at the end of the season for some reference. 103 Ben Harmon 25-10 125 Tyler Browder 15-12 160 Trevon Sevion 25-13 171 Sam Woehler 26-12 The only one I can admit I have ever seen wrestle is Sam Woehler but he has some real upside- depending on his off season work I would expect with no Clint Schmidt he is there 'guy' (and I don't like using that word). But this is only based upon last year on who you might see from BG other than these 4 guys I literally have no idea who else to expect. Sorry if I missed anyone. I wish every wrestler, regardless of school, a great season. High school flies by so enjoy every single moment and for anyone who gets the chance to wrestle in college savor that as well- no doubt you will look back and they will be some of your fondest memories.
  8. Since McClurg left and Smiley is now at Cathedral the only real name I know from BG that will be returning and I think (please don't quote me) that was in the finals last year at Capital City was Clint Schmidt. I have been away at school and unable to really follow anyone.
  9. Great choice North Western is stellar academically and a solid program. Although I would have liked to see Tsirtsis wrestle as a golden gopher next year.
  10. "IHSAA was studying the change amid lower attendance and some coaches holding their top wrestlers out to better prepare them for the individual championships." Logically this statement seems flawed. The individual tournament falls before the team state tournament. I understand they are trying to say coaches are with holding their varsity wrestlers from mid week dual meets to advance to the team series but more clarification should be required. I am saddened to see the team state tournament dissipate... I know there was a consistent group of 10-12 teams that made the trip and that a bulk of high schools never had the opportunity to participate but the environment was electric. Also, I believe it made the concept of a team in wrestling come full circle. You sacrificed for your teammates by bumping up or lowering a weight class and so on. I do realize this was a fiscal decision as much as anything I am just saddened the team state series is over.
  11. I personally enjoy your posts. I do not always agree with you quite the opposite is true often I disagree with you but you liven the board up. Some of your post are flat out humorous and others show a very serious and respectable side- I think of your post offering your prayer to the Keiffer family. Maybe a little more censorship would be "better" but I do like the differing and very biased opinions. Which we all have.
  12. Hmm... I do agree with everyone that this post was classless and seemed like a personal attack on a very good wrestler. Last year at 189 there was a very talented man from Bloomington North that did not "have the credentials" at the state level but still managed to find himself atop the podium. Harvey has wrestled well at every weight despite his consistent gain in size and has continued to place in state. I believe he is deserving of his number 1 ranking. However, that does not mean he will win state it is just saying he is in the running and contention for it. I personally would like to see him wrestle extremely well and be on top of the podium at Conseco. I would also like to see Evan Smiley atop the podium as well.
  13. Excited to see him compete again. I am equally impressed by how he handles himself on and off the mat; Howe continues to represent the state of Indiana as a top notch athlete and person.
  14. I may be extremely wrong on this but isn't Flo a recent tournament, within the last few years? They are all really tough. It just depends on what you consider more difficult freestyle or folkstyle. But Fargo just has that lore. So I am going to give the edge to Fargo.
  15. Agreed 100%. But typically if a 112lber is benching 225+ his other lifts aren't lacking much. Y2 was a freak 112lber I would imagine he would agree or openly admit that his other lifts weren't horrible. But it is true bench press has little functionality on the wrestling mat. I just used that as an example since that is what everyone was discussing prior.
  16. Y2 must have been a beast 112lber. I have a good friend by the name of Danny Coyne who did 225+ on bench press the year he won state in 2006 at 112. Honestly, it is just an extremely impressive feat at that weight to be that strong.
  17. Evan Smiley, wherever he is wrestling is going to be a beast. Brock Morgan and Brandon James. They will be great and if they are both at LN next year should be a great duo for 4 good years of wrestling.
  18. I saw on Track Wrestling that Evan Smiley went 5-2 and only greco. Which is pretty impressive. Glad to see him do well. Sucks he is going to Cathedral but he is a heck of a wrestler.
  19. Look out for Cathedral. With the incoming freshmen class they have Harvey and Smiley (still not confident that he will be there) plus the core they already have in Willis, Bernard, Harvey, Venezia (sp?), and others they are going to be tough to compete with. Also, PM they are awesome.
  20. Is Apple Valley a private academy? I know they are a great high school team.
  21. So does anyone know for sure if Evan Smiley will be at Indianapolis Cathedral? My gut instinct, hope, and reason says no. However, things change and it is hard to tell these days. Regardless, I know he is going to be a great wrestler and he is an even better kid. I just hope he is wrestling for the Hornets of Beech Grove next year.
  22. Also, Brock Morgan son of former state placer and head coach of BGMS Steve Morgan. I know for a while it was hoped that he would attend Beech Grove as well but I am almost 100% certain that he will be attending Fishers next year. Brock has had a great youth wrestling career winning most tournaments he enters. Would've been nice for Beech Grove to inherit both Brock Morgan and Evan Smiley in the same freshmen class but that doest look like it is going to happen. It kind of reminds me of Danny Coyne and Ethan Harris. Both amazing middle school and high school wrestlers.
  23. I am pretty certain Evan Smiley will be at Beech Grove. His Dad is coaching for the Middle School and lives in the District. Unless something has drastically changed I do not believe he is going to Cathedral. Has anyone heard a solid answer otherwise?
