  1. And this list is not including Conaway from Beech Grove. A good class for sure!
  2. "Git eem" (Get Him) -You will hear at every match, no matter what level, classic!
  3. It is up to us, as coaches to make sure these young men act as just that, young men. I see the way some of the parents act and it is no coincidence that their children act the same way. I am only speaking of the ones that display poor sportsmaniship, I realize there are many great parents out there that are teaching their children humility and respect in victory and defeat. We can't control what they are taught at home, but we can control how they act when they are representing us as a school and a wrestling program. So many coachces are after the almighty win and respect and sportsmaniship falls to the wayside. In my opinion, you are doing a young man an injustice if you allow him to throw a fit just because he is a good wrestler and it will hurt your team if you suspend / discipline him. We, as coaches have an obligation to these young men to teach them life lessons like respect, sportsmanship, humility, and commitment no matter how good or bad of a wrestler they are. If you are not teaching this as a coach, I don't care what your record is, you are not doing your job!
  4. Or you don't even realize you are crazy, you think everyone else is just soft!
  5. Alright, I'll get this started. When you carry around a travel size bottle of Tinactin around with you in your bag.
  6. Has anybody figured out what it is about ISWA tournaments that makes everybody automatically forget how to park their car?
  7. How about everyone that can meet in between rounds at a given establishment downtown during the state finals. I'm sure a bar would gladly sponsor to welcome all the business of these thristy patrons. Hopefully some of us are still coaching at that point! Good luck to everyone in their sectionals tomorrow. Stay healthy, survive, and advance!
  8. I bet all of their matches will be on mat 1.
  9. Studies also ahow that if you are at much greater risk for overtraining injuries if you "specialize". If you are always only using the same muscle groups you will get injuries from overuse as well as not strenthining the other muscle groups and the imbalance can cause sports injuries.
  10. How about the tuxedo T-shirts in your school color? This would allow you to be dressed up and casual at the same time.
  11. I would say that Perry has bigger things to worry about than a national ranking. Some recognition is great to reward your time and effort but they have other things to worry about like getting better on a daily basis and being the best team they can be. They are at a level that every other program in the state is trying to get to. If the national powers that be do not recognize that, then so be it. I would like to see them wrestle these schools as well but if it's not possible or feasible for the school, it's not going to happen. The way I see they are doing things right and representing Indiana wrestling very well at the national level and let the other things (like rankings) take care of themselves.
  12. Coach T does not do push ups, he pushes the earth down!
  13. It doesn't matter what the coach does, some Dads will not be happy. Some people just want something to complain about. It comes with the territory.
  14. I, for one, never questioned Cody's injury, I just said that he should have reported to the awards stand to accept his award. I stand by that statement. It is a shame to see a great high school wrestling career end this way, but we have not heard the last from this young man. Good luck on a quick recovery and go showcase your talent to the nation and show everyone what Indiana wrestling is all about.
  15. If you like Nachos, try to conquer the Mile High Nachos at Champs or the Supreme Nachos at The Pub. Both very good and a lot of food!
  16. I agree with what you said, but it is also important for us as coaches to hold them accountable for their actions. I'm not saying he shouldn't be diappointed, he absolutely should be, but it is important for us to try to guide them in the right direction on and off the mat. This means not making excuses for why they didn't report to the awards stand and making them do the right thing even when they don't want to. If losing a wrestling match is the worst thing that ever happens to them they are set up to have a great life. It is our responsibility to to get them ready for real life, and this means giving them guidance on how to act especially when things don't go the way they wanted or expected them to. It is our responsibility as coaches to make btter people, not just better wrestlers.
  17. Was he too hurt to go accept his award?
  18. I am the defensive coordinator and assistant wrestling coach.
  19. If we are doing our jobs as coaches this should not happen. The best life lesson you can teach through the sports of wrestling is discipline, if you are allowing your wrestlers to yell at the refs, you are not teaching this lesson. I understand that wrestling is an emoional sport and in the heat of the battle sometimes things are said. However, if you sit back and alowyour wrestler to be disrespectful, you are doing them a disservice in the long run. It is important for a coach to make better people, not just better wrestlers.
  20. Thank you to all veterans that fight for the very freedoms that allow us to coach and particiapte in the sport we love. Thank you for your service and sacrifice!
