I have had 5 or so teachers ask what are "shorts designed for wrestling" already today. 

I have noticed that a lot of the wrestling competition shorts have Velcro straps with an elastic waist band. Would that be considered illegal?

I appreciate your transparency. The fact that nobody knows the full roster of participants is troubling, to say the least. What is more troubling is that the IHSAA does not want to disclose who was there or what took place. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just looking for some rationale on why certain changes were made. The fact that you were instructed not to discuss the meeting creates suspicion, in my opinion. 

Four point near fall and the college out of bounds rule would be a step in the right direction. Maybe even the new way stalling is called at the college level when a wrestler goes out of bounds as well.

Still baffles my mind that HSE and Fishers are 5-10 minutes from Pendleton Heights but they are sent all the way over to our regional (North Montgomery). I guess you can throw Westfield and Carmel in there as well. They are both about 30 minutes away from Pendleton but drive probably over an hour to get to North Montgomery.

Not sure if I have seen someone completely dominate everyone like Andrew Howe did. His Junior and Senior years were ridiculously dominant. Not getting tech falled was an accomplishment for his opponents. 

Hard to top that. NCAA Division I champion.

Not so fast, Kelvin Jackson from Anderson highland was a one timer and ended up as an ncaa d1 champ for Michigan state

I know it will never happen, but I think it would help if teams could enter more than one kid per weight class into the sectional tournament. We lose very quality kids each year because they do not want to sit on the JV. Regional/semi state level kids that can't make the line up end up quitting rather than waiting for their shot on the varsity.

I love our individual tournament. But that's exactly what it is, an individual tournament. I love team state as well and if we are talking about team state championships, that is the true measure in my opinion. We have a classed team state tournament now so small schools have a team state championship to shoot for.

Yes, we would consider ourselves more of a true Team State Champion if we beat Yorktown and Bellmont in a dual meet style tournament rather than out scoring them at Individual State.
We also have a HUGE team picture in our entrance of our school Right next to our 1995 and 1996 state football championship teams and our 2000 state runner up Baseball team.

We do have our 2nd place banner of 2014 in our school gym. We treat IHSWCA Team State as THE true measuring stick for a team state championship. Not the IHSAA individual tournament.

Yes, we would consider ourselves more of a true Team State Champion if we beat Yorktown and Bellmont in a dual meet style tournament rather than out scoring them at Individual State.
We also have a HUGE team picture in our entrance of our school Right next to our 1995 and 1996 state football championship teams and our 2000 state runner up Baseball team.

I'm saying that if my son attends a small school and is interested in wrestling then I need to realistically consider my options
 
1. I encourage him to enjoy the small school environment -- one that allows kids to play 3 different sports where a student at a large school may not get that chance. I support the wrestling team in any way possible, and probably try to talk his buddies into trying it with him. I don't expect him to get a look by college wrestling coaches, or really college coaches for any sport (unless he is a freak athlete!). Our school's academic opportunities may also not be the same as BigTown HS down the highway -- they have fancy chemistry labs, new computer equipment, robotics, a huge theatre, etc.  I still encourage my kid to take advantage of what opportunities he has and try to excel in his studies anyways.
 
2. I want him to be a college wrestler (let me restate that -- HE wants to be a college wrestler, shouldn't matter what I want right?).  So, in addition to our 5-man wrestling team, in the offseason I take him to RWA or RoadRunner or MaurerCoughlin or wherever.  I buy wrestling DVDs so he can learn from others in the comfort of our home. We go to RTCs when they are available. Probably encourage him to wrestle freestyle/greco or any opportunity he gets. We are super excited when he beats kids that we consider better than he is - regardless of what size school they are from. He hopefully increases in his wrestling ability as the years go on and he advances through sectional, regional, ......
 
There's your choices. If you want to call it "things arent' fair deal with it" then go for it.  The second option is the same advice I would give to a kid at a large school that wants to get better also.

Why would anyone do anything to actually help the cause?

Everyone has a match so I do not see why the ihsaa would think it's not fair to score the first round. If scoring the first round of semi state isn't fair then I think scoring the first round of regional isn't fair.

I think 2A results speak for them self. I told you that 2A seeding was bad. Not any other class.. go check the scores and the results speak for them self.. Still wondering how we dropped in the rankings to 4th after having no losses..

North Montgomery has Business and Math opening. Hiring wrestling coaches is high on our administrators list.

What frustrates me is that people are defending a rule that we all know has been ineffective and making Freestyle/Greco participation worse.. Again I am not bad mouthing the ISWA or anyone who was on the panel who created the rule. They tried an idea and it didn't work as planned. But when people defend the rule that makes those in power feel that the rule is maybe being effective. It's not.. Here's an idea, get rid of the rule and start thinking of another solution. Stop beating the dead horse..

It's not hard, just get rid of rule. No reason to argue about it. The rule is not doing what it was designed to do. All it's doing is making the State Tournament worse than it already was. Last year it was a ghost town at Freestyle state. I am not bad mouthing the ISWA as I understand the intentions were good but the reality is the qualification system did not work and is simply causing more problems than the positives that it brings.
