  1. Rare but some have been added and advanced to the next level. Even a few made it to state. However, I'm not sure I've heard of any that made it "under the lights" State Finals championship match though.
  2. Information of notable wins and weight changes were probably not pointed out prior to the rankings. Looking over 14 weights in multiple conferences and 12 sectional seedlings is a daunting task. So if there isn't a specific heads up on those things they sometimes get missed.
  3. With the weight changes in the last few weeks going into sectionals, I'm sure its even more extra work trying to shift people around to the right place and then filling the spot left behind.
  4. I will simply direct you to my previous posts. The ones from 3 years ago.
  5. Just like Brandon Wright getting seeded 2nd in Sectionals due to the fact that the criteria said returning Sectional Champ at the same weight trumping a lot of the criteria. Since some of the other criteria didn't work Wright lost the seed due to being at a different weight class than the previous year. At least that was just a rule that needed an update rather than a complete misinterpretation. I'm glad they have since modified the criteria to consider overall state tournament advancement.
  6. If true that seems like in certain weights its hurting some of the field chances more than LC's. I don't have the best answer for a punishment if a coach messed up like that, but I'm not sure putting top wrestlers unseeded would be my top choice. Not ideal but maybe put those wrestles in the 6th spot if they were previously seeded. That at least avoids some of the "draw in" problems that could eliminate a high seed wrestler if their is a pig-tail match.
  7. I know we have had a few really good 215/220lb wrestlers in the last 20 years. College ready wrestlers just just weren't able to show their skills at the next level due to the weight classes splits. To heavy for 197 and too light to contend with college level HWT talent.
  8. I always think how deep the weight could be if the Stevesons would have remained in Hoosier land.
  9. This. They have enough of a selection to feed most of the gym.
  10. If I'm reading some of the release info right I believe it's set to release at 10 Central Time. So that 11 for us Eastern Time folks.
  11. The one think I've noticed in general and has been hinted at in this thread is that our JV wrestlers need opportunities to complete. They need this not only to get better, but to also keep their interest in the sport alive. No one wants to practice hard week in and week out just to wrestle a small number of matches a year and in some cases most of them were against the same team/wrestler. Whatever option creates these opportunities to keep the kids improving and coming out is a positive in my book. If the topics morphed into a JV discussion then it should focus on how we can get our JV wrestlers as much mat time as possible each week.
  12. From the title I really thought the focus would be on how e can help the "middle class" (economy wise) who don't have access to and/or can afford the academies and the off season national event circuit. I though there is some merit to that discussion, since often is the divide between the top 10% and the rest. But it started with class options and now has a focus on Varsity 2. Seems like some decent Pro's and Con's about Varsity 2 teams, but I think some of it seem to be regionally based. Some areas of the state just have schools more closer together than other which should help in organizing many more JV opportunities.
  13. A couple Finals of note from Hoosier Hills Conference: Graham Rooks (Columbus East) over Dalton Craig (Jennings County) Dec 7-4 Tristan Sellmer (Floyd Central) over Jake Schoenegge (Columbus East) Dec 4-3 Brooks Wathen (Jennings County) over Corban Pollitt (Columbus East) UTB 5-3 Aaron Mosley (Nee Albany) over Kamron Fuller (Jeffersonville) but it was due to a medical forfeit.
  14. No live feed. Not sure on the dashboard. We are on a lunch break at the moment so no action on dashboard at moment.
  15. Yeah hall goes in at 174, but picks up a loss. Sandersons undefeated records remains intact by his own hand. Halls earlier Redshirt loss also will go on his record now too. But it's scary how loaded Penn State is and will continue to be for the next several years.
  16. Yeah it would shift the seeds around but it is possible to replace someone before weigh ins.
  17. Last word I heard was that he was going to be added in to the brackets as a replacement for a NA wrestler. That is unless you have more recent information.
  18. IHSAA.org website under Wrestling. It's at the bottom of the page. http://www.ihsaa.org/Sports/Boys/Wrestling.aspx Some recent state finals info about individual wrestlers can be found on Trackwrestling still. There as also some team records and state placers available on this website by clicking on the information tab. For a more expanded look at records you may need to get a hold of one of the Indiana Wrestling Books (Echoes of an Elder, or Ready Wrestle) out there. Both great sources of historic info, but they are hard to come by these days. I'm glad I was able to get my hands on both of them. Mater Dei also has a great history of their program called We Are...MD that was published a few years ago. I believe Y2 and the other admins in their spare time are working on compiling some of that information for this website, but it is a daunting task to complete it all.
  19. I don't know the particulars of what the NCAA require for someone just out of high school being added into the University mid-season and getting to compete. But even if its cleared, I'm still not sure where he would even fit in their line-up other than dropping down the the 133 (Cortez out due to injury). As cool as it might be for him to walk out, I'm assuming Cael would rather keep Nick for 4 full years rather than push him out just to fill a spot for half a season. PSU has a few decent options for 133 like trying to get Gulibon back down, or putting in someone off the bench. That person may not as good as Cortez, but at least enough to keep something going for them. To me if they are not pulling Mark Halls Redshirt after Southern Scuffle then I'm not seeing them putting Nick out for just the end of the season. Nick is likely just getting a head start on his classes, so that he will not be as overloaded with coursework during his next few season of competing for the Penn State. If Cael wants him to skip a redshirt season Nick could slip in pretty nice at 141 once Gulibon graduates. Not to mention the extra time he gets by being in the room with all the studs this year, before he officially suites up for Penn State.
  20. Coach McGinley's post about Bailey getting a rematch against #4 in the country Zack Donathan this weekend got me thinking about what other individual rivalries are occurring around the state this year. Ranked guys who have meet multiple times this season. Wrestlers who have had a few close matches in previous years and will be face each other again this season. Those who have collided in crucial part of a last years state tournaments and will likely meet up again this year.

  22. On the topic of long days. I wouldn't mind seeing MS State add a Northern and Southern Qualifer like Girls State and Freshman/Sophomore State have introduced now for HS. You can always have separation criteria for the qualifier based on last years results, but at least most of that will be corrected within those brackets prior to state. Maybe top 8 advance to state and have a 16 man bracket with placement at the qualifier being the separation criteria. It would definitely make for a shorter day at State for several brackets. Plus it could possibly attract even more state talent since the qualification event is closer to home and qualification makes the state finals event more prestigious.
  23. I think he may have finally sold his boat, bought a pontoon, and is crazing down the Ohio River.
  24. The way it was explained to me a few years back, the sectional weigh-in may not be about making a qualified weigh-in, but you still had to adhere to the weight management guidelines of 1.5% per week for wrestler safety reasons. This was a ref with many years experience that said this was the rules interpretation he was given, so I tend to take him at his word. However, since then I believe the refs were instructed (not sure by the IHSAA or Rules Committee) to no longer give an official response to none wrestling match rules interpretations. Those questions were to only be answered by the IHSAA. The good news is it generally only comes up as a possible issue when someone (especially lightweights) is wrestling up a weight the weeks before and takes full advantage of the extra pounds he can gain. Or if their is the additional 2lb added due to no practice winter issues and a lightweight take all of those 2lbs. I do know that several coaches have interpreted the meaning of this rule differently over the past few years. Some have even said the 1.5% is just based on the start of years body fat measurement calculation rather than a week to week assessment. But to ensure the wrestling gets to compete and the coach/AD doesn't get dinged by the IHSAA I'd rather error on the side of the 1.5% per week. Just letting your lightweights know they don't have to take advantage of every single 0.1lb of the 2lb weather allowance or if they know they are bumping up a weight class for the weekend usually takes care of any possible issues. Like I said in most cases this isn't an issue, but it could come up from time to time. I do know there have been a few coaches in the past the IHSAA has had to talk to about weight management issues due to their interpretation of this rule. Agreed. Very specific clarification would be helpful to ensure a wrestling or coach isn't hurt by the IHSAA for simply misunderstanding how the rules is applied.
  25. It may matter for the light weights come Sectionals at least due to the interpretation (they have varied) of the % of weight you are allowed to drop per week according to the Weight Calculations. I know some guys who fluctuate between weight classes could have some issue from week to week if they are to following the weight plan when additional pounds are added due to weather issues.
