Yes, I am familiar.  It's called lazy recruiting.  It's the same reason kids with measurables get scholarships, and the HS stud who's an inch too short or a tenth too slow can't get a D1 offer.  It a sad reality.

How many kids looking to go to a D3 school to wrestle are being turned away?  The financial package might be cost prohibitive but I don't think coaches are going to turn them away. 
 
As for me not mentioning class wrestling, isn't that what this thread is about? I am just trying to put a broader perspective on things.  For the record I am not a proponent of class wrestling if you're looking for a definitive answer. 

Three things:
 
1. I agree with you that they prefer Wrestler A, and I think you're making the same points I was.  Small schools can't recruit "blue chippers" with sub par academics. 
2. Your wrestler A has a 1700 SAT. I assume that's a typo?
3. NAIA and D3 are different animals 

No, what I am saying is whether he's a state placer in a two class system or a semi-state qualifier in a one class system a D3 program will recruit him regardless. Going back to what I stated earlier, most D3 programs use their sports teams as marketing tools to recruit kids to go there.  I am also not suggesting that large colleges are better than small colleges and vice versa; that's a personal choice for each person to decide.  What I am saying is a multi class system is not going to be the boon to recruiting that is being alleged, IMO.  As mentioned earlier by someone else in this thread - most D1 schools are looking at the bigger national tourneys so they can compare apples to apples.  Kind of like how colleges want to see an SAT/ACT score more than high school GPA.

Leave the individual state finals as it is. If you want to be the best the best, then beat the best. We had 4 state qualifiers and 2 of those placed. No its not easy to get kids to Indy, let alone place especially from small school.. There has been 1 state champ at Prairie Heights (Aaron Ramey). Will there be another, I don't know but we are going to give everything we have to get one. Build your schedule and seek the right kids for wrestling. Build the fan base. I truly think our schedule helps get qualifiers and place winners. Get kids busy in the off season and you will see a huge difference. Rasler put in a ton of time since semi-state last season and now he is one of the top 138 pounders in the state. Blakeley has a motor that never quits. Another top wrestler at 182, with losses to Eli, James, Kohler and Worm (split). Kids have to put in the time. It would be a disgrace to go to classed individual finals! I do however love the Classed Team State Duals

Take geography out of the equation. These kids train together.  They are all Region RATS!
 
I think wrestlers from the Region have 3 very distinct advantages:
 
A tradition of excellence - Escobedo, Howe, Tsirtis X 2, Micic.  Kids in the Region grew up emulating those guys and wanting to be the next great wrestler from the Region.  The Region Wrestling Academy.  That room is a who's who of talent and outstanding coaching.  Iron sharpens iron.  When you have a room full of state placers and champs, it's survival of the fittest. If Tucker and the Champagne's stayed to wrestle in Indiana, the Region would have added to the hardware this past weekend.  I think the ability of Region kids to travel across the state line and wrestle IKWF is a huge benefit. Instead of 8 in your bracket you might have 30.

Jewels 
Not family heirlooms or a tender body region, but a popular name for one of the region's dominant grocery store chains. "I'm goin' to the Jewels to pick up some sassage."

Field's

Tree

Over by dere

Downtown
Anywhere near The Lake, south of The Zoo (Lincoln Park Zoo) and north of Soldier Field. 

The Lake

Braht
Short for Bratwurst. "Gimme a braht wit kraut."

The Interstates in the immediate Chicagoland area are usually known just by their 'name' and not their Interstate number: the Dan Ryan ("da Ryan"), the Stevenson ("da Stevenson"), the Kennedy (da "Kennedy"), the Eisenhower (da "Ike"), and the Edens (just "Edens" but "da Edens" is acceptable).

Gym Shoes
The rest of the country may refer to them as sneakers or running shoes but Chicagoans will always call them gym shoes! 

Hahahaha, omg...lol  I love when a country bunkin' backwards ass hilljack sister's cousin's sister's brother's sister who you call mom or wife or honey or whatever makes a funny...cracks me up.  I like how you can watch a few episodes of The Sopranos and read a few of the Rat's posts and think you know us...come live a day in our shoes, Da Region would eat you up and spit you back to Mama's tat.  Great post though, funny stuff...all in good fun, you know, funny like a clown.  The strange thing is, it was as if you were describing the rest of the state with several of them...hmmm.  And oh yeah...Indy's not a big city, not even close.  And going to IU for the weekend doesn't make you a world traveler.  Really though, I love you guys...and your sister/wife  

Da Region is what it is...we can handle the poking fun and even the harsh criticisms...we're the land of big shoulders, bring it.  As for our ego, it's called a survival tool.  We are products of the steel mills, the refineries, the South Side of Chicago, the Big 3 of Hammond, Gary, and East Chicago...drugs, murder, and organized crime are "normal" to us.  We root for Chicago sports and family is everything to us...even if we don't share the same blood.  This is fun, I love you guys!
Even though I'm a product of Da Region, born and raised in Hammond one block from the State Line, I love the  whole state I live in.  We have diversity and pride...and in this case we have the greatest sport on the planet that brings us all together.  Looking forward to a great weekend as always...safe travels to all the wrestlers and their families as well as all the fans.  

One last thing...does somebody have the individual numbers of State Champs/Place Winners from Da Region as opposed to the rest of the state???  Just curious...or maybe it's my ego that's curious, lol
