Expanding would make this more of a "team" title. Instead of Perry, MD, Cathedral, Penn, Portage, etc . . . sending 6-7 a year, now most of these teams send 10-12 to determine title.

MD has two full mats.

MD wins 10 weight classes. Castle wins 106 and 160. Central wins 152 and Harrison wins 220. It looked liked a Castle-MD duel in the finals.

I hope we get to see Red vs Lee during their dual. -
Union County placed 2nd at the Holiday Classic and Kentucky had a great showing there with 4 champs and 9 in the finals.

I have noticed that about Kentucky rankings as well when I watch MD's Holiday Classic. Many of their lower ranked kids would not even place. However, some of their top ranked kids would do very well. Kentucky has about 100 wrestling schools so the talent pool is lower. I have viewed their rankings more like our semi state rankings.

Does anyone have any thoughts on today's wrestling? Good matches? Anyone standout? Observations? Would love to hear any input.

Showing my age the 96 MD team was pretty good. 11 state qualifiers and all14 in the ticket round.

Thanks. Didn't think MD would have all the football players ready to wrestle. Did Nick Lee wrestle?

I have to add MD. They have Lee back with his brother now joining him. Egli and Johnson are both returning place winners with Jordan and Forzley who both made it to state.

Castle in 1994 earned a runner-up finish. They finished 3rd in the SIAC but 2nd in the state. This current format is flawed when finding a true team champion.

The season is still a little bit away. Not sure if Egli will be able to make 106. He may end up at 113. -
Nick is an awesome wrestler. I've been watching him since he was in third grade and he has a great talent for wrestling. I just feel with a post like this too much may be expected of him. Nobody can predict illness or injury when it comes to teenagers. Nick will make MD proud and MD will be honored to have Nick wearing the MD on his chest.
