I'm sick and tired about hearing the "bad parking" sob stories. I have no concerns with the parking...you just have to know where to park. I got there at the beginning of the ticket round and only had to walk a block and a half, and parked for free...and there were three other open spots on the street. Basically, I parked closer to the Ford Center than I did at the Castle Regional. There are numerous side streets that have street parking on both sides. They got rid of all the one way streets, so its easy to get around.

The Kelley v. Hoehn match was crazy!!! Kelley came out ready to wrestle. He pushed the tempo early a got a quick takedown with 3 near fall. After that Hoehn tried to match tempo, but couldn't quiet keep up. There were a lot of reversals and near falls on both sides. The match ended with Hoehn almost getting the pin before time ran out. Credit to Kelley, he really pushed the tempo, took Hoehn out of his element, and got the W to show for it.

In 1999 Mater Dei won team state, but had a very poor showing at Market Square Arena. They had six wrestlers qualify, but only three actually placed. With the highest place winner being 4th. This year's Mater Dei team is very solid top to bottom, and while I think they have a legitimae shot at winning state, I don't think they will make a good showing at Conseco. This is why team state is so important, you can have a number of solid semi-state qualifiers and be better than a team with just a handful of superstars. Look at Castle, they will do very well in the individual tourney (and could make a run at the coaches trophy), but they have a number of subpar underclassmen preventing them from making a run at the team state.

No matter where they place, I think all four (Stein, Ozer, Warren, and Haire) have the ability to run the table at the Castle Regional and qualify for semi-state... Everyone already knows that Stein is the best in the state. Warren already proved that he could beat both Brandenstein (MD) and King (RE). Anybody who has watched Haire wrestle knows that he has a lot of natural ability (although imo, he may be slightly undersized for a 171). I haven't watched Ozer wrestle, but if he beat Warren earlier in the year then he must have some talent. I do question Haire's choice to move up to 171. It seems like he would have an easier path to semi-state if he stayed at 160...but if he feels more comfortable at 171, then more power to him.

While Castle does have some very strong individuals, their lineup has quite a few holes...especially in the upper weights. They have quality wrestlers at 103, 119, 130, 140, 152, 160, and 171. These will be the matches that Castle needs to win, and probably score bonus points. I think you will see MD getting a lot of pins in the other weight classes. I don't think it will be as close as it has been in years past. MD 42 CA 15 .

I hate to say this, but I was not impressed by either Chad or Doug Welch. They both looked rusty...and somewhat sloppy. Chad even got put to his back by some kid from Boonville!! No disrespect to Boonville, but I expected more from the twins. Hopefully, they can get their act together by the time state rolls around. I love rooting for Southern Indiana boys!!!

It was called a reversal (then changed to an escape) in the semi-final Welch-Bennett match. But I guess you have to be in sudden death overtime to get that call..just sayin.

Bringing it back to Welch/Bennett. It seems that the ref anticipated the call. The call still baffles me...how can Tsirtsis not get the escape at the end of finals regulation...yet Bennett does. Let the boys finish the scramble and see if control is maintained.

Welch/Wedding: 1st period -- scoreless 0-0. Wedding working hard on a fireman's carry and slideby...Welch trying to work in a single/double. 2nd period -- Welch rides Wedding for a minute and a half, put him to his back with no back points called...Harmon was very upset (it was very close to three seconds, probably 1/2 of the refs would have given the two points and the other half not). Wedding with the reversal at the thirty second mark. Welch trying to get a reversal, Wedding in a dangerous position, barely hanging onto to a leg...no reversal...no escape (Harmon furious). End of second period 0-2 Wedding. Third period -- Welch with an early escape (1-2), and takes down Wedding with about a minute left. Again Wedding reverses with 30 seconds left. Welch tries to escape both wrestlers scramble their hearts out. Wedding again in a dangerous position with 10 seconds left, Welch needs to get his head out...doesn't happen. Wedding wins 4-3. Great match by both wrestlers...Wedding had great time management. Hopefully, these two will wrestle it out for the next three years.

Top 12 Indiana High School Wrestling Programs of the Decade (2000-2009)

I know that Castle and Bloomington South have wrestled head-to-head every year, and am curious about the results. I know Castle has beaten them the last two years, and I am thinking that Castle has the slight advantage this decade, but my memory gets fuzzy in the earlier part of this decade. Does anyone have results between these two teams that could clear this up? -
It looks as if this will be a two team battle btw Castle and Yorktown (similar to last year). Head-to-head matchups and wrestlebacks will be key. Castle is strong at the following weights: 112, 125, 140, 145, 152, 160, 189, and Hwy. I'm predicting each of these weights to make it to place 1 or 2. I'm not that familiar with Yorktown's team. Where are they strong and what head-to-head matchups with Castle will be good?

In 189, did Rosebrock (CA) and Eads (BS) wrestle at the Jasper duals this past weekend? If so, does anyone have the score?

Just a quick fyi on Castle info...they went 5-0 at the Castle Invitational (two weekends ago) beating North in the finals. I don't know the final score, but their only loss was at 103 by fall. Keep up the good work.

I think the point that bharmon01 is trying to make is that the contract between the schools calls for Castle to wrestle Mater Dei, Bloomington South, Jasper, and Jeffersonville. That even though there was a screw-up with FP and Green, under the contract Castle should at least wrestle those four schools. Just my legal opinion.

Weikel was at 160 this past weekend. Castle's has a new 171 (can't remember his name) that looked quite good. Here are my picks 103 MD 112 CA 119 toss-up (unfamiliar with both wrestlers) 125 toss-up (Brown vs. Henderson...both should go to State) 130 MD 135 MD 140 CA (simply because he went undefeated this weekend and I'm unfamiliar with MD's wrestler) 145 CA 152 toss-up (Sims and Welch resume where they left off last year, another classic) 160 CA 171 MD (Castle looked solid, but Boots gave Mann all he got last year) 189 CA 215 toss-up 275 toss-up (Daughtery looks much more comfortable than last year, but is still undersized) So that leaves MD 4; CA 5; and 5 toss-ups. Good luck to both teams...hopefully, we get another nail-biter

I think you hit the nail on the head tspray...in order to get more Indiana wrestlers to wrestle in college, we need to get more Indiana wrestlers to participate in national tournaments (and not just Sr. Nationals). Colleges need to start looking at our kids when they are freshmen and sophmores, and not when they are seniors. I don't think having a class system will get more wrestlers to national tournaments.

I tell you what...after Saturday's performance by both Castle and Mater Dei, I can't wait for team regionals. Like yesterday, I think it will come down to bonus points for either team. This was a different Castle team than the one I saw last December. However, Mater Dei makes a living off of upsets and getting pins. If both teams win their sectionals, this will be one hell of a first-round meet. -
