  1. Saw him dancing at semi-state. That should immediately disqualify him from any and all influential lists.
  2. Wouldn't 7th place get 4 + activity? 2 for winning the opening round match, then 2 for placing 7th? Wouldn't 8th get 3 + activity? 2 for winning the opening match, then 1 for placing 8th?
  3. Brayton Lee. I think it was 5-3 earlier this year. Joe Lee pinned McIntosh in the state finals last year. We got to Bethel because he pinned B Lee at semi-state 2 years ago.
  4. Dickens got pinned fairly quickly. I'd have liked to see them go a full 6 minutes. Not saying Dickens would have beaten him, was just hoping for a better match. Very tough draw for the freshman, but I don't think there was an easy draw at 120 at this semi-state. I thought Happe could have won his match. Very evenly matched IMO. I thought it was a tough draw for Boots. Lee may have been a little under the radar coming in. Very good wrestler.
  5. I don't drink beer at HS sporting events. Nothing personal BlueBolt. Just not a fan. Don't see why you resorted to taking shots at MD. I'm only one person and certainly don't represent the entire MD community.
  6. Not a big fan of going to Castle. I wouldn't mind seeing it moved.
  7. A lot of times with the legs in you can look like you are trying to turn them, but in reality you are just riding.
  8. I was referring to the Rutgers match. I totally agree that he is at an all-american level with his top game. If he can improve on his feet, look out. The Rutgers kid made a wise decision in the 2nd period by choosing neutral, knowing that was his best shot to score.
  9. That match was one of the reasons I don't like riding time much. No offense to Hughes, he is and incredibly tough rider with those legs. But I never got the sense that he was looking to turn the guy. Just rode him for he sake of riding him. You see that a lot in college. Once they secure the riding time point they tend to open up a bit more. Not a real exciting match to say the least. But, for a freshman to ride college kids like that is impressive.
  10. Disagree with your 152 assessment. Joe Lee is one of the top 3 locks this year, along with B. Lee and Parris. I'm sure Hatch and Warren will give everything they've got like you said, but it would be a HUGE upset if Lee doesn't win.
  11. This was just in the paper over the weekend in the "Remember When" section of the sports page. 1992 Indiana's Best. 3rd ranked MD takes on host and top ranked Lawrence North (with 4 kids that would win state later that year). I believe LN was also ranked in the top 20 nationally at the time. MD seals the victory with a win over Derrick Robinson at 189. MD wins 27-21 to avenge a loss to LN the previous year by the exact same 27-21 score. The 92 win also happened to be Goebel's 200th as a coach.
  12. Had it in a cast all week before regionals. Cut it off on Friday, wrapped it up and wrestled in the Regional. This was back when on the top 3 advanced. I won by pin my first match and then dropped the next two in close matches to finish 4th.
  13. My junior year I broke my hand in the semi's of sectionals (won the match though) and then defaulted the finals. The default was counted as a loss officially (but not by me!)
  14. Wasn't there, but heard the only match Reitz won was 285. Luigs beat Craig, but didn't major him.
  15. MD wasn't wrestling 60+ matches per year, so their records in HS are vastly different. Only Coughlin and Maurer wrestled in college, and Maurer got hurt. Coughlin AA'd, but the Griffith boys have more AA's and a national title.
  16. Remember, it is 300 miles border to border. MD wrestled in the Cheesehead in WI several years ago. I think the year MD wrested St. Paris Graham (2003), it was a dual format and they couldn't wrestle a team from WV, if I remember correctly. If it had been an individual format they wouldn't have been able to participate. To me, it is all about finding the right tournament and making sure the teams there are within 300 mi from the state line. I think it just makes more sense to branch out (a little at a time if necessary) than to wrestle the same teams over and over in your pocket of the state.
  17. Those teams you mentioned still have opportunities to travel to our neighboring states to see different competition. I'll use MD as an example. They used to go to Cincy for a tournament, they got to St. Louis, used to go to Nashville, been to OH to wrestle St. Paris Graham and St. Ed's (late 80's when the wrestled Ed's), they host teams from KY and IL. Region teams could easily schedule good teams from the chicago area or go up into Michigan. Other teams could head east into Ohio. There are opportunities out there that as a state I don't think we fully take advantage of.
  18. Even if the travel restrictions were removed, how many of our programs would go, or even be invited, to those tournaments? I would say less than 5 per year, if that. Teams from IN rarely schedule out of state competition within the travel restrictions as it is now.
  19. Wouldn't Littel transferring to CG be the very definition of transferring for athletic reasons? Unless PM is glad to be rid of his and didn't oppose the transfer then I don't see how he would be immediately eligible.
  20. well aware of the purpose of this site. I lived the life for many years, but I'm not blind to the fact that other activities prepare kids for life. Wrestling is not for everybody. Doesn't make those that choose not to participate weaker than the ones that do or ill prepared to face the challenges life will throw at them. Does wrestling teach life lessons? Absolutely? Does participating in another sport, speech/debate, drama, journalism/yearbook, etc. teach life lessons? Absolutely. All i'm saying is each individual is different and if they choose to stop wrestling it's their choice. Should a coach try and retain them, yes. Should a coach pressure them into something they don't want to do? Nope.
  21. There is no doubt that wrestling is tough both mentally and physically, maybe/probably more so than other sports. But I think some of you are selling the other sports short in these aspects, along with life lessons that kids learn from activities other than wrestling.
