  1. MD typically has 10-15 duals every year.
  2. I'm guessing he has heard some negative rumors, which is probably why he said, "I hope it's not true."
  3. Congrats to Chad Red. Quite surprised that Nick Lee didn't at least garner an honorable mention.
  4. Well, I think 112-130 and 145-171 would probably be the same. Would some guys from 182 cut to 171 or go up to 189? Would the 195 guys cut to 89 or go 215? I assume Kobe Woods could cut the last 5 lbs to get to 215? Could Rypel make 189? Don't know how much Cash and/or James were cutting to get to 138. Maybe they go 140. If that's the case then Joe Lee wins 135. They you have Cash and James fighting it out at 140. Interesting to see where they would all fall weight wise.
  5. He is so good with his defense and positioning, etc. that I think he relies a little too much on it. I agree that he amped it up a bit after he got behind in the semi's, and you could argue that he should have received a stalling point towards the end, but it was too little too late. Why not come out and be the aggressor from the first whistle? From where I sit, he seems content sometimes to be 0-0 after the first, get an escape to go up 1-0 after the 2nd and then rely on getting a RT point and defense to win 2-1. It is usually an effective style for him and won him a national title, so I can't really knock it too much. I just think he is going to have to score more to win a 2nd or 3rd title.
  6. I know it is not the case, but it seems like every match he wrestles is 2-1 or 3-2. He had a couple of close matches earlier in the tournament and his run last year was the same. He obviously has the talent to open things up, but for some reason he has chosen to go to a very defensive style and it caught up with him in the semi's.
  7. I'll have to give this more thought, but here's a few off the top of my head, in addition to the ones you listed. 112 - Mike Happe 119 - Rusty Head 125 - Bart Zirkelbach 135 - Craig Elpers
  8. I think he means place. The top 8 at this weight from the weekend all return next year. I hope he can place, but he's got his work cut out for him.
  9. Finished 12th this weekend. Track has his record at 12-20. I think saying he had a great year is pushing it. Hopefully he can make some strides this offseason.
  10. The IMart/Ness match was very entertaining, lots of action and IMart kept looking to score. As was Steiber's demolition of Iowa at 141. Almost got the tech in the first period. Tsirtsis/Sorenson was a snoozefest. 165 was interesting with cousins going at it. The heavyweight match was good too.
  11. You are attacking him and you have been intentionally condescending/arrogant throughout this entire thread.
  12. Wrestling is more embedded in the culture in those states (throw in Oklahoma and Ohio too) than it is in Indiana. Indiana has been, and always will be, a basketball state. Iowa and Pennsylvania are wrestling states. I don't think those states being classed has anything to do with it. I think them having successful collegiate programs at all levels, particulary D1, greatly helps because there are more opportunities for their wrestlers to go on to college. Then when they are finished likely go back and coach at the HS level. And the system keeps feeding itself. They have more opportunities for year round training with clubs, etc. that it really doesn't matter if they are in a small class or not. Indiana is so far behind them in this regard.
  13. MD will have 2 champs in the Lee brothers. Egli, Luigs and Jourdan will (or at least should) place very high. Could have 5 in the semi's. That will be tough to beat, especially if they get a couple more qualifiers to advance to saturday.
  14. The Welch twins from Castle both won in the same year a few years back. The most decorated would have to be the Tsirtsis brothers, although not the same year. Both 4x champs with a total of 3 losses between them (I think).
  15. MD has had teams from IL, KY and TN in their Holiday Classic and have never had an issue with seeding before.
  16. Best to never win - Craig Macke, 4th 2nd, 2nd, 3rd.
  17. Let's hope he turns his life around. He was a bad man. I believe he lateraled Frank Hammond from PM and the cradled him for the pin in the '91 finals. Hammond then dominated the field in '92. Wills was a man among boys back then.
  18. Back in the day, I was a season only wrestler. Played football/soccer in the fall and baseball in the spring and all summer. More than held my own with the year round wrestlers and ended up placing at state. On our team at MD at that time we had a few that wrestled year round. Most of our guys played more than one sport (football, baseball, track). Today is different with the specialization happening at an early age. But I still see kids from the feeder league that are playing football/soccer in the fall, basketball and wrestling in the winter and baseball in the spring and summer.
  19. Black also rode him out in the 3rd period. Looked like Robinson was on his stomach most of the period and was almost turned with a tilt. Not a bad showing for just his 2nd college match. He'll continue to get better, but since he isn't doing it full time I don't expect him to beat the top guys.
  20. He was backing up 90% of the match. He did take a few half shots, but was not close to getting a takedown. I felt that Lee was chasing him around the mat for 6 minutes.
  21. Luigs should have been given 2 back points on his first take down. Would have made it 4-0 and those two points would have been the difference. I think they meet again next week and Luigs will reverse this result. Todrank/J. Lee - Todrank basically throwing left/right combos to Lee's face (open hand) the whole match. His only points were when Lee let him up. I thought Todrank wrestled to not get majored. Backed up, kept jabbing him in the forehead took a couple of half shots and that was it. Did whatever he could to stay away from him. Lee will major him if the meet next week.
  22. I think the Tsirtsis brothers would rank ahead of the Maurer brothers as the most successful sibling duo in Indiana history.
  23. All you active wrestlers take note. If you are kicking the crap out of somebody, avoid moves that expose your own back and we won't have to worry about this.
  24. I understand that the Region has had teams invited and they chose not to attend. So if they want to challenge the "validity" of MD's championship then they need to man up and come to the event. Also, if you feel that you need an All-Star team to beat MD, I would say that lends a ton of validity to their 3A title. Fish eaters? Really?
  25. With essentially zero mat time, I think Ferguson would have a tough time just beating Egli, let alone pinning him.
