It may  actually work the reverse:  think if every year we had match ups of kids who were returning state champs vs. kids who actually had a chance to beat them.  A returning 1a state champ could very well be undefeated and be facing another 1a kid who is undefeated..... it could be billed as the next match of the century....  the possibilities are ENDLESS....am I wrong?

Jeremiah Harvey of culver back in 2011 I think finished 3rd or 4th in his sectional then went on to win the state title

I think I know what difference you are referring to....even subconsciously.....and it reflects poorly on you.

But it would be cool to see this match as the main event, Parris-Woods though may keep most people in their seats this year before the disrespected big guys take the mat.

I think you guys miss the point the 3A state finals are already happening. Outside of 120 I'm pretty sure they were all bigger schools in the finals. Have it classed if wrestlers want to compete up send in a petition and wrestle up a class. I would bet most wrestlers wouldn't

Anyone can predict winners, top four, team scores, etc.I, however choose to predict happenings to look for at each of the 14 weight classes...

106 -- A youngster will get called for not having his shoelaces secured.They will be tied, but not taped, thus leading to controversy and outrage.
113 -- This will be the weight class were a mom confronts a coach following a tight semi-finals match.The mom will be upset that the coach didn't complain more about what she saw as poor officiating.
120 -- All will wrestle to seed in this weight class
126 --A name will be misspelled or mistyped on the bracket sheet.Sadly, no one notices in time, and no correction will be made.
132 -- A wrestler will miss weight at this weight class
138 -- During the first round, someone will vomit during the match
145 -- A match will be lost in this class because someone won't realize it's his turn to wrestle until moments before the match.He will blame his team mates for not pulling him away from his open-faced roast beef sandwich he brought from home.
152 -- Finals headgear malfunction.New headgear is brought in to save the day
160 -- Everyone will be confused why the first round of this weight is delayed.It will be because of the overtime thriller in the pigtail round
170 -- Action here is widely ignored in the first round due to the confusion about the 160 class
182 -- Someone forgets his singlet at home and is forced to wear one a size too big.Although humiliated, the offending wrestler puts forth a great effort.
195 -- An easy name will be inadvertently mispronounced during the finals.Everyone in the crowd will be uncomfortable for a moment.
220 -- There will be some confusion about bout cards during the day.It will end up that the cards were right all along, and no one should have questioned them to begin with.
285 -- Regardless of outcome, all wrestlers in this class become great friends over the course of the meet.

Cross Country was going through this same debate on their message boards earlier this year as they are not classed as well and some guy made a interesting post...
It went something like this..
Basically he said he would give a large amount of money to anyone who could go coach at a small school and coach that team to a top 5 finish at state.
There were some rules such as, no paid assistants, 4 years to do it, and so on. 
the bottom line on this issue is small school teams and the MAJORITY of wrestlers will not do well in a one class system, that is a FACT. If people are okay with this then there is no need to class it.

We are not 7% off.  From 5.8% to 13% is 7.2 percentage points off.  If we should be at 13% placing, and we are actually at about 6%, we are really over 50% off of the number we should be.  This is true because 6 is less than half of 13.  Less than half of the 1A kids that should statistically place at state actually do.

If school size doesn't matter for individuals then why won't you take me up on my bet? You get 700 individuals and I get 100 individuals.

Wow, thank you for posting.  This sounds like it could have been taken straight from the mouths of any of us who coached him in High School.  What a young man.

I highly doubt anyone who doesn't follow wrestling (or had a champ/runner up from his/her school) has any clue who won any of our 14 weight class tournaments or who won the overall team title a couple Saturdays ago, even though there was only one of each.

Cutting weight is one of the dumbest parts about this sport.  I'm not talking about a kid who drops weight naturally by working out and eating right.  Cutting weight, depleting your energy, and dehydrating your body is ludicrous.  It's one of the reason kids burnout. 

Let your kid wrestle at his natural weight.  The myth that you need to go down in weight to be successful is ridiculous. 

No one said achieve success at a small school is impossible...but why is it fair that a small school kid has to work twice as hard, travel twice as far, have 1/2 the resources but expected to output the same results?? When really it doesnt need to be like that.

So you are saying if each of your 14 kids is wrestling an isolated match against a Penn wrestler, they are not at a disadvantage.  However, if they are all wrestling at the same time, they are at a disadvantage?  Is that a fair summary?

Then why do you deserve recognition for going to team state? Why should you get to go...why not take Penn's Varsity B Team? Why do deserve it more than them?

Because those were four of the ten girls on the team.  Because winning a state title would have rattled the cages of a lot of other girls roaming the halls who know they are as athletic as some of the girls on that team.  Because if numbers continue the way they are, there won't be a track team at all any more. 
 
Why does the 1A All-State football team deserve recognition?
 
Why does the Division II college tennis champion deserve recognition?
 
Why does the champion of a small-school conference deserve recognition?
 
Why does eighth place at state (ninth for track) deserve recognition?
 
If you aren't better than EVERYONE then why should you deserve recognition for anything?
