  2. It seems to me that the Merrillville Semi-State was the strongest for the past ten years and that most of those wrestlers making it so were also frequent participants in the Region Elite wrestling practices. Recently I would be compelled to give the edge to the New Castle Semi State. With that being said, I wonder how many of those top wrestlers in that Semi-State attend CIA.
  3. What Matchup's will be headlining this tournament this year? I know I am excited for the second meeting of the two top freshmen at 160.
  4. tskin, I applaud your very well thought out response, love for the sport and pride in your program. Have I personally changed over the past year and change? I most definitely have. However I cannot fault your logic. I agree wholeheartedly with both of my statements currently involved in this discussion. Therefore, I am most definitely a hypocrite to some extent. I can live with that. However, I still believe there is an issue with "bashing" anyone whose opinion goes against the grain on this board. Having a slightly offensive opinion cannot possibly be wrong in this country. I can agree that RankingsGuy's comments are often calloused but intentionally calling someone out? I think not. When this is the case lets have thick skin. So, To revise my original statement, And also make it much more complicated: -As a team effort, let us not let slightly offensive opinions and unorthodox ideals lead us to bashing individuals when no direct offense was intended by the remark. -To get back to topic however, Let Bubba Celebrate! He pinned a guy that not only took his spot on the team but also routinely tech falls guys in a big ten schedule. Did i mention this happened in the NCAA Finals?!? I would want a party on the mat if i were him. Complete with stringers, confetti, cone hats and a disco ball. Everyone in the stadium is invited! GOD BLESS WRESTLING AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.
  5. -Everyone needs to leave RankingsGuy alone. It irritates me that so many people give him a hard time when he is one of the only individuals that actually posts anything real. Personally, I am so sick and tired of reading all these "lets be politically correct" responses. It is okay to have an opinion that goes against the grain and is potentially offensive. Everyone here is/was a wrestler or wrestling fan. We are all pretty tough individuals. So as a team, lets all try to toughen up and not take everything so personal. -Or we can all go play basketball and cry about our poor little feelings being hurt (I know this does not apply to all posters on this board. Just enough people to draw a response from me.) GOD BLESS WRESTLING AND GOD BLESS AMERICA
  6. Always a great Tourney. I have seen a few kids lose at this tourney and end up taking the title in Febuary. I think that says quite a bit about it.
  7. I am a first generation wrestler. No one in all of my family had done any wrestling at all. I got my start in kindergarten when i brought home one of those fliers that they pass out in school and told dad that this is what i wanted to do. Didn't win a single match my first four years of both Folkstyle and Freestyle. Suppose i turned it around a little bit since then. You can put money on my kids being wrestlers as well.
  8. Don't forget about Coach Eracleo Vallejo. Former National qualifier at Manchester College. And also some great practice partners
  9. I doubt it could be 3 one minute periods. How could you get your opponent tired enough to be able to score anything?
  10. The Hobart Vs Portage Dual back in 99 or 00 or something like that. I was just a wee lad and remember that being extremely intense. Also Portage Vs Merrillville is always good, and i can remember back in either 04 or 05 it got pretty crazy with a young Jamal Lawerence being tossed into the bleachers by one pumped up Michael Lecuta.
  11. FABIO Just about everything you said i agree with. (I'm not surprised) Only thing i think you have wrong is the push out rule. I just don't honestly think you can support that one. In Folkstyle: How many times in a match have you been obviously pressuring the offense against a kid that is stalling balls against you, and as you back him up to the out of bounds line he does a quick circle and pushes/shoots you out (without any intent to score) to keep from being called for stalling? -Maybe i'm not very good, or strong (both very possible) but that happened to me often in HS. -I feel like this same strategy is used very often in Freestyle nowadays. Only in Freestyle the passive wrestler isn't escaping a stall call, he is being awarded a point. And Myself, being a big supporter of winning by any means necessary within the laws of the rule book, I can't blame these wrestlers. It seems to me to be the best option to win a Freestyle match. You don't have to work to score a takedown, so you can just stay in position and keep your focus on defending your opponent's offensive and then when the opportunity arises push/shoot the guy out of bounds and win the match by a point. -Personally I like to see wrestlers going as hard as they can against each other and really opening up their own offense. Its just more exciting to me that way, and the push out rule seems to me to promote that certain style that leads to extremely boring matches won on one point pushouts amongst the higher level wrestlers. (no specific level mentioned here, just higher) Hoping to sway your opinion, Johnny Dillon
  12. In high school I always shook the opposing coaches hand before i stepped off the mat. Every single time. Why? because i had always seen the upperclassmen at Hobart do it, so i assumed i should too when it was my turn to step on the mat. Eventually It became so habit built that i would do it without thinking, and i continue to do it in college. However most other guys do not in college. You rarely see it. But like i said i do it every time just out of habit. I like to think it is good sportsmanship (Probably something Good Ole Coach Balash instilled in us) but honestly i do not think it is overly important and don't see any problems with kids not shaking the coaches hand after the match. Just seems a little repetitive to me.
  13. Im a big fan of the swirl singlet worn by Porras myself.
  14. I have wrestled them both and was under the impression roach was going to win by more. Both very tough wrestlers though. Congratulations to both of them on great seasons.
  15. Bash- I respect your opinion, your post, as well as you yourself. However i still disagree and believe that Sean did not do anything unsportsmanlike. MIB- You are very correct. I assumed Bash was a portage hater and that was wrong of me. I'm sorry. I should have left that part out of my original post. Still i stand by my belief that when you formulate opinions on someone based solely on watching that individual wrestle you are doing an injustice to that person. You don't have to take sean out to applebee's although I'm sure he'd appreciate the free food. I was only suggesting you say hi when you see him at a tournament. I just wouldn't want to judge someone before i knew them a little bit. As i admitted to and apologized for doing earlier. Also- I feel the only thing we would be able to agree on at this point is that Porras is one heck of a champ and most certainly a class act.
  16. Just read it, and was shocked they would post something like this of someone from their own area. And I thought region wrestling coverage was bad. Here is the link: www.jconline.com/article/20100221/SPORTS01/2210343/1038/Delphi-s-Atwood-loses-title-match-in-OT
  17. Doesn't Mishawaka run an open room or something to that extent? I'd imagine that'd be a pretty good place to train as well. Or is Mishawaka too far from Fort Wayne? I really have no idea on the geography around that area.
  18. -OTR proves again he is head and shoulders above the rest of the posters on this board.
  19. Bash: - Just because you do not like Sean doesn't mean you have to constantly look for faults in his character at every meet you attend. If you want to know something about Sean McMurray go talk to him. He is a great guy and i'm sure is willing to talk to anyone who happened to say hi to him at a tournament. So if you really are so concerned about his character and what kind of person he is go talk to him yourself. Don't make assumptions based on what you are misinterpreting through watching him wrestle. -I believe the only reason you don't like him anyway is because you have some built up hatred for portage from when you were in high school, and are looking for reasons not to like him because of the team he wrestles for. Maybe their team beat your team a couple times or you had a strong rivalry with portage. -Also, I have known Sean a long time and seen him stay after practice to work with little kids and help make them better. I have seen him on countless weekends during the offseason at wrestling camps helping kids get better and he has done lots of work helping with CIA, and VEGA Wrestling (when it was still around), and the Portage Wrestling Club all in an effort to give back to the sport that has given so much to him. Don't go around saying he is a bad individual because he raised three fingers at state when you do not know him and have no knowledge of the things he has done for our sport. before you go bash someone make sure you take some time to learn what kind of person he is first. When you assume you are only making an @$$ out of yourself.
  20. Refer to my comment on page four of this post. Covers everything. You're welcome. lol
  21. I respect that you have an opinion; however, my opinion is strongly in oppose to yours. And it has elevated to the point that after McMurray wins his third state title i will indeed be posting an "i told you so" post. That is all.
