  1. I have to agree with buscowrestling. Carroll's coaching staff has had some very solid success in the last few years. They aren't the best program to use as an example of what school would be much improved with better coaching. A much better example would be CC. Look at what they were under Randy Kirby, and look at what they instantly became as soon as he left!
  2. I can see positives in all of the 3 options, but I would lean toward choosing B, because it is the only option with a weight class in the 180s and the 190s, which I think you can find a lot of athletes at all sizes of schools to fill those weights. Moving up 103 will help the class be filled more often. It will also encourage smaller kids to allow their bodies to grow, rather than stunt their growth potential to stay lighter. There are also good reasons for having a weight class lighter than 215, but heavier than 189. 189s that wrestle in college tend to be 184s, not 197s. It would be good to have a weight class closer to 197 in HS to help prepare kids around that size for a college weight.
  3. I believe that you can add coach Maldanado to this list. Didn't he go from a small Catholic school to Merrillville?
  4. Good post! Wresting is the toughest sport in HS, and it only gets tougher in college.
  5. Nick, Congratulations on a great career! Good luck in your future endeavors!
  6. Blane, didn't Kris Cramer beat Joel Peter of BL at team regionals, but lose to him a few days later at individual regionals, which set up the match with Koons in the ticket round at SS?
  7. I know that you are right on this in OH for football. They have a qualifying system to determine who makes the playoffs.
  8. Josh Lovejoy of FW Luers has to be in the discussion. As a freshman, he lost a ticket round match (119) to a kid who placed 5th in the state that year, 18-13. As a sophomore, he beat Bobby Howard of Lowell, who would win state the following year. Josh was upset the first round of regionals by a Carroll wrestler who would go on to be a state qualifier that season. He was a regional champ the next two years, only to lose in the ticket round both times. His junior year he beat Brownlee of Snider, who would place 3rd at state the following year, during the season. His senior year he lost to a wrestler he had beaten a month earlier. Not many non-state qualifiers have beaten as many placers as Josh did.

  10. Looks like IN dominated. How good was Miller from Stagg? How'd the match go?
  11. You aren't seeing him because he is a SOPHOMORE! This is for SENIORS!
  12. From the looks of it, it's a solid schedule. Bellmont's is definitely tougher, but most schedules aren't as tough as Bellmont's is.
  13. I believe that there was someone in the 40's or 50's that won state 4 times who was a HWT. He might have wrestled a class in the 170 range as a freshman, because the weight class below HWT was considerably lighter than today. I think he wrestled for Bloomington. I'm sure TAE or someone with his book would have better info.
  14. Hope you decide to wrestle in it. We need our best wrestlers out there in order to beat IL.
  15. We need to let this top die, along with the other ones about Willis, before we continue with more ridiculous posts like this one! To say that a shoulder brace doesn't help a dislocated shoulder is way off base. If they are so useless, then why did Angel wear one? Do you think it had something to do with keeping it in place? Saying that Willis took a dive is BS. Attitudes like that are part of why wrestling has so much trouble advancing from being a fringe sport.
  16. It looks like Indiana should dominate this match-up, as I believe they usually do.
  17. That really sucked to have to exit and re-enter twice on Saturday!
  18. First off I want to start by making it clear that I am taking nothing away from Michael Johnson-Jones' accomplishment. Congratulations to him on having the best State tournament of any of the 189s. The question of who is a better wrestler between him and Atwood is up for debate. But the answer to who had the better Saturday at State is clearly Johnson-Jones. The State champ isn't always the best kid in the weight class, although it often is, but it is always the competitor who has the best Saturday at State.
  19. Aren't Caliboy189 and Caliwrestler92 one in the same?
  20. I stand corrected on Janney not getting a takedown. I guess the ref determined that he would have had a takedown, had Travis not dove out of bounds.
  21. It really comes down to the arrogance that a lot of refs possess is why officiating is as bad as it often is. You can't be a good ref if you don't leave open the possibility that you might have been wrong.
  22. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, then every day would be Christmas! Janney won the match fair and square. He converted a single leg takedown for the only takedown of the match. Be happy with your semi-state winning their 6 championships and just accept it!
  23. I haven't read through all of the comments on this, but I have to say that it is 100% wrong to boo a kid who gets injured by an illegal move and wins by DQ! Willis didn't screw Vlahos, Vlahos screwed Vlahos. And he screwed over Willis and the fans, because no one got to see the rematch of his earlier 1-0 match with McMurray. To anyone who is saying "if he was too hurt to continue, then he shouldn't have wrestled the next match", that is a stupid statement! As good as Willis is, and only a sophomore, there is no guarantee whatsoever that he'll get another shot to wrestle a match under the lights. Why wouldn't you put a brace on your injury and do anything you could to give it a go?
  24. I believe Hiestand beat Faurote in the regular season and at Individual Regional, while Faurote beat him at Team Regional.
