Sheesh... MD definitely has their work cut out for them... CG looks SOLID on paper.

We simply don't have the horses to beat Brownsburg.  Unfortunately we will give up way too many bonus points and that match up will be lopsided.

I think the CG/MD match could be a toss up.  I need to look at the CG lineup a bit more to confirm.

    EDIT:

I looked closer at the match ups.  On paper (state rankings) CG should win comfortably.  A few swing matches that go in MD's favor and it could get interesting.

I full believe we earned the seed we were given, I think it will much better to be on the bottom side of the bracket than the top side. I don't feel like anyone has a chance beating #1 & #2, but the rest of the seedings will be able to battle it out IMO. MD will have their work cut out for them in CG. Great teams, and I hope that MD can come out with some bonus points from wrestlers that are able to do so. Bonus points will be a big factor in winning each dual, we cannot just go out and try to win. I know bonus points are the name of the game for Team State, but I think MD will have to push themselves to that point come Team State time.

  3. All of these dudes being named were STUDS. I remember my Freshman year of HS, I watched Norman Oglesby v Wesley Bernard for the HWT finals match and was in awe of the size of these humans. Also remember seeing Norman's letterman jacket having patches hanging off of the back because there wasn't enough room for them all.

  4. Mater Dei held a 5-way tourney yesterday (12/10) hosting Bloomington South, Avon, Castle, & Jeffersonville. MD hammered through most of the duals, with exception to Avon. It was a back-and-forth bout, with big wins from Austin Vanover at HWT with a Fall against the Oriole's HWT. Other notable matches, with Vanover's younger brother Tyler, as he wrestled a tough match with Cheaney Schoeff at 138. With blood times pushing the match to an eternity, Schoeff pulls off a hard-fought victory 6-4 decision. At the end, MD pulls through 45-23. Scoreboard doesn't show it, but it was a close, exciting dual.

Another notable bout from the tourney yesterday were the following:

195: John Purdy (CAST) v Cameron Maier (BSHS) - Purdy with a first period fall. Guy will be a force to be reckoned with come tournament time.

Shouting out Hilltop Inn for the hospitality during the break! $2.50 ice cold fishbowls to break off the Friday night rust.

Cricket- How did the MD vs MEM match go down?  Schaefer wear a tie?  Mattingly been using conditioner?

Wasn't been able to make the dual, unfortunately. Currently awaiting the breakdown of each weight from my source. Score ended up being 68-8 MD. In regards to the coaching staff, I would assume that Schaefer wore a tie with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and Mattingly 100% needs to replace Fabio with the flowing hair he has now.

Prechtel looked good… beat Kemper. It was a good match. I hope to see them match up again in the future!

I feel the Prechtel v Kemper matchup will be the southern Indiana battle in the post season. Similar to the Sollars v Purdy and Egli v Konrath matchups in previous years. Maybe not to the magnitude of those matches but still fun to watch two talented athletes go at it!

  7. Union County is the real deal, no surprise here. MD will not have the well-known names they are used to, but I heard a quote this weekend that sums the roster up perfectly. "We have a lot of blue collar kids, not blue chippers." There will be some studs that will get out of football shape and back into wrestling shape, and those who are battling sickness and injury will (hopefully) bounce back. Good battles this weekend, but lots of work to do. MD dark horses by Cricket: Tyler Vanover and Spencer Turner. They were close to punching their ticket to the Bank/Bridge last year, keep an eye on them this year.

    And as always, #BringBackTheTights

  8. Hated to see the MD boys against each other, but that won't be the end of those two battling it out for a spot IMO. Crazy to think that Baumann, with an impressive high school career, gets beat by Parkinson, who also had a solid 4 years for the Cats. If I was a betting man, I would've put Baumann over Parkinson, but that goes to show that Parkinson having more college experience under his belt gives him the edge over an offensive machine like Baumann.

I am glad to see they will be practice partners as well.

    As always, #BringBackTheTights.
