Oh you right my bad, we were IHSWCA state champions, which is also a goal! Team titles don’t grow on trees, they’re pretty hard to come by. We’ll continue to work on folkstyle, which has worked well for our Brownsburg staff, but thanks for the concern Hector!

Do people still care about Greco, not trying to ruffle any feathers but very few colleges care about Greco. That’s why ISWA triple crowns are pointless, in my opinion.

Kyle Ayersman reacted to Coach Williams in Doug Welch Named Zionsville Head Coach
The Zionsville Wrestling Program is excited to announce that Doug Welch will take over as head coach. The native of Newburgh, IN was the IHSAA State champion at 152lbs. in 2011, IHSAA State Runner-up in 2010, and 5th at the IHSAA State finals as a sophomore for Castle High School. He continued his career at Purdue University where he was an NCAA Qualifier and ranked as high as 9th in the country at 157lbs. While competing for the Boilermakers, Coach Welch won the team's Boiler Up Tough Award, was an academic all-Big Ten selection, and was Purdue's male recipient of the Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. We are excited to have a talented young coach like Doug Welch that will eat, sleep, and breathe Zionsville Wrestling for years to come and do things the right way. Congrats Doug and welcome aboard!

Happy Mothers Day to all the Wraslin Mom's. They have to be saints to put up with wrestlers and wrestling Dads. Spending all the time year round in gymnasiums, driving to tournaments, driving to practice and putting up with a cranky hungry kid. Bless you all you mothers !

lol V and M!  We keep it mostly on our feet since guys are doing different styles.  My guess is Mulkey and Walton keep it to leg attacks or counter offense.  Walton does have a nasty chin whip so we may see some Greco!

This could be the greatest troll job ever.  Started by innocently backing into a topic about something else to post a negative statement about the style.  Then playing out the long con game of questioning the style with the intent of getting responses about Greco's importance.  Even bringing in Snyder at one point to be your accomplice in poking the bear.  Then finally finishing off with a challenge designed to actually increase Greco participation.  Hats off to you sir.  Well played.

That's probably enough for light weights.  But for many mid to upper weights it is more necessary to be well prepared for other attacks in situations where shots don't work.

I have never had any of my teams train for Greco State.  I think I went to coach at it once.  I went to Fargo a few times as a wrestler.  Got 3rd as a Cadet in Greco.  I just went to Greco State.  Never practiced it before and only did at camp leading up to Fargo.  I went to Fargo for the Freestyle competition and just happened to do Greco.
I don’t think competing in any kind of wrestling’s bad....however, time and resources are limited.  We certainly don’t focus on Greco.  My guys can still throw.  Pat Day had a decent headlock. Alex White aka LaterAL.  BLee nasty cement mixer.  We just don’t focus on Greco.

Greco is good for learning hand fighting and the importance of setups and timing of attacks. On top of that it does help with execution and countering of big moves. For instance, if you are up big late in a folkstyle match your opponent isn't looking for a single leg but more upper body maneuvers. Knowing how to counter and prevent them is good.

We'll see if Snyder can swing a raise, I am expensive though so we'll see if he can. And just because I was at Purdue it does not mean I was in the Logansport regional, I always will bleed that region steel mill blood.

Ayersman got soft in his time in the Logansport regional. I heard he almost left the Burg if he couldn't coach at the Dream Team.
