There is a lot to "work" out there.

    1. How do scholarships work? Most schools were planning on having those guys on scholarship.
    2. Who exactly will get them?
    3. What would happen to those that were planning on entering the lineup next year?

This would also have to be for ALL sports which with #1 could be a big scholarship hit and cost the universities a lot of money.

Honestly, i think it would be more likely they somehow make NCAA's in May than they give 330 wrestlers extra years.

I feel like the scholarship issue is actually minor. The 9.9 limit is an artificial NCAA limit that could easily be raised to some other artificial limit. The coaches have been asking for that limit to be raised for years. As for affordability based on the ever growing size of school endowments I suspect that most schools could afford it. And if they choose not to offer more then the transfer portal is open.

I wonder what happens to the tens of thousands of airline and hotel reservations, and tickets that fans paid hundreds for?!

The NCAA says if you bought tix through them or an official source you will be automatically refunded minus applicable fees.

Hilton said they will allow cancellations even for no- cancel and pre paid reservations. Other chains are likely to follow.

Most airlines are already offering vouchers or free rebooking.

All of these kinds of things are why you see the stock market tanking. The impact on economic activity has many concerned.

So with a cancellation of ncaa's what will they do with people's year of eligibility? Do you think they may bring it back as a summer sport? I don't have any answers just a lot of questions...

Becoming interesting simply whether or not Nationals even take place. Almost a certainty now that if it does it will be without an audience.

No audience has been confirmed. Or at least a tiny audience. "Essential staff  and limited family attendance" was in Emmert's statement. Now with the NBA going first in suspending games, will others follow? I think the wrestling tournament is more likely to get cancelled than go forward. And that makes me sad.

    • 9th - 13 NCAA qualifiers ranks tied for ninth most by state with Iowa. Pennsylvania leads the pack with 48, followed by Ohio (31), Illinois (28), NJ (23), California (19), NY (17), Michigan (17) and Minnesota (16).

    • 6th - Using the Flo rankings you can also come up with a projected number of points scored by state (assuming no bonus points). Here Indiana moves up to 6th with 91.5. Penn still leads the pack at 254 followed by Ohio (152), Illinois (139), NJ (104.5) and Minn (95.5).

    • 3rd - But things get real interesting when you calculate projected points per wrestler. Now Indiana moves up to third on the list at 7.04. Indiana only trails West Virginia (13.5) and Arizona (9.8), but those two states have only 2 and 3 wrestlers qualified, respectively.

    • 1st - If you limit the list to the 11 states with double digit wrestlers qualified Indiana leads by a decent margin:

I heard 3 on FloWrestling Radio Live today. They were guessing.  Demas lost at conference and Woods has very few quality wins (albeit to go with 1 loss), and I think Chad is the clear cut third in the Big 19 now so there you go.

Flo has a live bracket reaction show tomorrow at 5 central (which is when the brackets come out).

I heard that comment on FRL today too. The funniest part about that is they start by touting Nomad's bona fides on NCAA seeding. Brag about how he knows the seeding criteria better than anyone else in the media. Than they completely ignore the criteria that Nomad had just written up in an article that morning to say Red will probably be the 3 seed because that is where he is in their rankings.

By the criteria I think he is 6th, but there is a secondary process, that I am not at all clear on, that can lead to variation around the criteria. Piecing things together from different sources, it sounds like after the criteria seeding they then review for things that dont pass the sniff test. It also sounds like there is a max number of slots that a wrestler can be moved up or down from the initial criteria.

A lot of words to say, I dont really know anything.

  6. With a strong 3rd at Big 10s he definitely improved his stock, but among the top 10 wrestlers he has the lowest win % (1 of 7 weighted criteria for seeding), a lower conference placement than Real Woods, Ian Parker, Dom Demas and Zach Sherman, a lower RPI and coaches ranking (prior to conference tournaments) than Woods, Demas, Parker, and Murin. He does have head to head over Murin.

So is he the 6 seed behind Pletcher, Lee, Woods, Parker and Demas? Or does he wind up behind Murin, Moran, Sherman or any others?

With the allocations,   what are Purdue's wrestlers chances of making the NCAA.   Possibly 7 or even 8 on a good day wrestling.

Lydy, Bruner, Schroder, Coleman would get wild cards and are locks.

Penola probably would get wildcard too.

Fillius, Parriott and Lyon all are going to have to wrestle to get in and cant afford an upset.

    Should be a fun day.

Its behind their paywall, but there is an interview on Flo with Ersland today saying he wants 8.

    Tristan Moran, 17-5, ranked #11 (6-4 in last 10)

B10 Wins: Cole Martin, Parker Filius, Chad Red, Mitch McKee, Justin Benjamin

B10 Losses: Max Murin, Luke Pletcher, Nick Lee

    Chad Red, 15-6, ranked #5 (7-3 in last 10)

B10 Wins: Mitch McKee, Cole Martin, Eddie Bolivar, Matt Santos, Max Murin,

B10 Losses: Luke Pletcher (2x), Nick Lee, Tristan Moran

    Max Murin, 12-1, ranked #7 (9-1 in last 10)

B10 Wins: Mitch McKee, Parker Filius, Eddie Bolivar, Dylan Duncan, Tristan Moran

    B10 Losses: Chad Red

Just looking at the data, I would have Murin the 3rd seed as well.....the 4th seed is very debatable between Red & Moran.

Yes. But my point is that there is something missing. Murin has only one loss, but he also sat out the Ohio State and Penn State duals. So while Moran and Red have 3 Big 10 dual loses, 2 each are to Pletcher and Lee. The two guys Murin didn't wrestle. Too often guys are rewarded for NOT taking the mat ala Mike Carr.

I am glad to see that they took the opposite tack with Parris and Steveson.

  9. Unfortunately Jacob Covaciu is unable to go and Indiana has no entry at 174.

The other surprise for me is that Chad Red only got the #4 seed. I think he should be the #3 seed. Instead Max Murin gets the #3 despite the fact that he lost the head to head to Red. The case for Murin could only be that he has fewer conference loses than Red, but it is easier to have fewer loses when you do not take the mat against Luke Pletcher or Nick Lee. This is similar to last year when Mike Carr got the #1 seed at Big 10's in spite of not having wrestled Joey McKenna or Nick Lee during the regular season.

It is clearly not as consequential as last year. Last year the Carr side of the bracket was clearly the place to be and that is not just hindsight talking. This year you get either Pletcher or Lee in your half of the bracket. Pick your poison. Still it is a bad look to have someone who lost the head to head and was unable to wrestle the guys above him, seeded higher.

I just came to post this and you beat me to it.  But you forgot one....  Kyle Hatch at #7 in DIII

For those that don't want to read the article, it's the NCAA's Most Dominant List based on average team points scored per match.  Only Mark Hall leads Nick Lee.

Also note the obvious that Nick and Mason are this dominant in the best conference in the country against highly ranked wrestlers.  And for what it's worth, Kyle Hatch's 4.94 points at #7 is higher than Mark Hall's DI leading 4.85.

Not bad representation for the Hoosier State.

My apologies to Kyle Hatch. I looked through DII and DIII and just flat out missed that.

  11. How Flo sees it 1 - 13

Rank Name School Wins Pin Tech Major
    1 Spencer Lee Iowa 14 3 8 2
    2 Vincenzo Joseph Penn State 13 5 1 3
    3 Nick Lee Penn State 18 4 7 4
    4 Kollin Moore Ohio State 23 3 6 8
    5 Michael Kemerer Iowa 13 2 3 3
    6 Mason Parris Michigan 25 9 1 6
    7 Gable Steveson Minnesota 12 3 1 6
    8 Ryan Deakin Northwestern 18 5 0 7
    9 Jack Mueller Virginia 12 4 3 2
    10 Pat Glory Princeton 19 4 8 2
    11 Shane Griffith Stanford 23 7 0 7
    12 Noah Adams West Virginia 26 5 2 5
    13 Chas Tucker Cornell 27 2 0 1
  12. Flo posted their latest rankings this morning. The state of Indiana gains four slots total as both Parris and Lee jump up 2 spots each to number 6 and number 3, respectively.

    What they had to say:

    6) Mason Parris (Michigan), 285

Now that we got to see Lee/Pletcher, the most anticipated Big Ten final will be Mason Parris against Gable Steveson. His 36-percent pin rate is behind only that of Vincenzo Joseph, and he has wins over the guys ranked third through sixth in his weight class. Whether or not he ends up a Hodge finalist, Parris has been a bright spot for this Wolverines team and only helps the case that Michigan can be a trophy team when their guys on Olympic Redshirt return.

    Dominance Score - 4.4

    Bonus Rate - 64%

Average Time on Mat - 5:13

    Ranked Wins - 7

    3) Nick Lee (Penn State), 141

Lee won the mega matchup with Luke Pletcher, winning the takedown battle, picking up a stall point, and earning riding time. Combined with his wins over Jaydin Eierman and Frank Molinaro at Senior Nationals, it's clear the Indiana native has jumped levels in his third season. He'll play a huge part in the Nittany Lions' trying to fend off Iowa to win their fifth consecutive team title.

    Dominance Score - 4.67

    Bonus Rate - 83%

Average Time on Mat - 5:33

    Ranked Wins - 7

  13. You guys are probably still spent from the weekend, so I thought I would help a little with the results I could find for college:

    Friday

Chad Red pins Mitch McKee (Minnesota) in 3:53. If Mitch McKee never sees another Indiana wrestler, that will probably be alright with him.

Brayton Lee tech falls Christian Miller (Nebraska) 23-8

Mason Parris earns a 10-1 major over Jon Spaulding (Edinboro)

Garrett Pepple loses in a 7-3 decision to Drew Marten (Central Mich)

Cayden Rooks earns a 12-2 major over Wade Cummings (Chattanooga)

Graham Rooks loses 12-8 to Tanner Smith (Chattanooga)

Diego Lemly gets pinned by Hunter Fortner (Chattanooga) in 4;16

Nick Willham loses in a 14-4 major to Rodney Jones (Chattanooga)

Rudy Streck loses a 6-3 decision to Grayson Walthall (Chattanooga)

    Sunday

Nick Lee earns a 7-3 decision over Salvatore Profaci (American)

    Bonus Cross Over Content

Could be college. Could be high school. Is both.

Matt Lee enters the Mat Town II tournament as a high school senior and takes home third at 157.

After beating Jonrocco Kazalas (Binghamton)  11-3 in the round of 16 he lost to red-shirt junior Elijah Cleary (Ohio State) 8-1. On the back side he had consecutive wins over Benny Baker (Finger Lakes) by a score of 16-3, Garrett Fisk (Maryland) 3-2, and Wyatt McCarthy (Rider) 4-3 before receiving third in a no contest victory of number 1 seed Jon Ross (Lock Haven).
