  1. How about the issue of no wrestle backs in Indiana. Although most of you already get it I will explain it for you very simply. Here is the common scenario: Wrestler A who places lower (let's say 3rd in IHSAA State Finals) and regularly beats the Wrestler B (maybe even every step of the State tournament...Sectional, Regional and Semi-State) Wrestler B places 2nd because he draws opposite of the eventual State Champ while Wrestler A placed 3rd since wrestle backs don't exist. Wrestler A is clearly the better of the two but still gets 3rd. We all know this happens regularly in Indiana. Bottom line: Is the best wrestler representing Indiana? NO Does the best wrestler miss a great opportunity? YES Should Wrestler A still have the chance to compete with a high quality team if he wishes? ABSOLUTELY It is simple. Quit taking opportunities away from these kids.
  2. Was the team selected yet or should we assume that the team was chosen in a questionable manner or questionable participants were added and the organizers don't want the general public to know because they don't want any guff? The tournament is in about two weeks I believe. I spoke with one of this years freestyle state champs and he hasn't heard anything...
  3. according to an official at weigh in he weighed in under 200 lbs. closer to 190
  4. I disagree I don't think It was favoritism but rather just a poor official... As far as I could tell he was the only bad official there Saturday making a lot of poor calls in various matches. Props to the rest of the officials on Saturday who did a quality job. Hate to see an official effect the outcome of a match.
  5. Agreed...Talk about An official really effecting the outcome of a kids season. Gray getting hosed on that call in the semi state final sets him up with a terrible draw for the semis. Very disappointed for him. all the officials at ft Wayne were quality except for the one on that finals match who made multiple bad calls during the day.
  6. Lafayette Harrison takes 10 to Semi-State

  8. 106: #4 over a #1 seed at Carroll regional Smith Goheen of Dwenger over Schuller of Woodlan in Sudden Victory
  9. 152: Oneal of Hamilton Heights over Berkebile of Frankton 3-2
  10. 182: Damler of Brownsburg went out by inj. is back wrestling in Cons.
  11. Looks like Peru's Rader at 160 is not in the bracket
  12. 220 Ellis of Eastern over Paz Goshen 8-3
  13. Here is all the info on Micic in his own words: http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/251734-Wrestling-News-and-Updates/article/32518-Stevan-Micic-Discusses-His-Future
  14. Disappointed to hear the ISWA did this. There were a bunch of wrestlers/families who traveled, spent money, cancelled or put aside other important obligations in order to commit to this and now it has been undone. Now the ISWA should begin to look at the Nationals Duals team selection process. At first glance I saw an upper weight Junior wrestler who appears to have only wrestled in Freestyle State once in the past 3 years and did not place. In addition this wrestler hasn't even participated in a single ISWA Freestyle or Greco event this season or last. How has this wrestler has been selected to be on the team? His only qualification was a good 2015 high school season. The only other thing I can find is that he may be close to one of the coaches, but I can't be sure this is the case. I would guess there are others of similar circumstance but haven't had time to check. According to the coaches of this team from a posting earlier in the year they want to be competitive with other states like Illinois in Freestyle and Greco on a national level...odd they would select wrestlers who lack any participation in Freestyle and Greco this season (or last) on a local or state level. At least select kids who are participating in a couple of Freestyle and Greco tournaments this season. Shouldn't they need to wrestle in these styles in this weekends State in order to make your team seem legitimate? Oh, by the way if you would like to tout this as a tune up for Fargo shouldn't the team consist of kids who actually qualify for Fargo?
  15. Congrats to Rocky! He was a teammate of mine in College at Manchester and had an incredible work ethic then and it is clear he still does today. Well deserved!
  16. More great work by our Indiana wrestlers 3 have made the national finals tomorrow! Many others in the wrestle backs who should place high. Sophomore division Evan Ellis - Eastern (Greentown) 220 defeated National Prep Runner-up from PA (in finals will face Pennsylvania state runner up Seth Janney) Junior division Blake Rypel - Cathedral 195 defeated a 3 time New Jersey state place winner (in finals will face 3 time Oregon State Champion - Sam Shields Colbray) Kobe Woods - Penn 220 defeated 2 time NY state place winner (in finals will face 2 time Colorado State Champion - Toby McBride)
  17. Brandon James looked great losing a heart breaker 9-7 in sudden victory in the semi
  18. A lot of Indiana wrestlers are the semi-finals: Our Hoosier boys are doing great!! They Have beat a ton of state placers and State champs from other states Freshman division Ty Mills - Brownsburg 106 Sophomore division Kory Cavanaugh - Penn 106 Jarod Swank - Penn 152 Tristan Tonte - Perry 195 Evan Ellis - Eastern (Greentown) 220 Junior division Kobe Woods - Penn 220 Senior division Brandon James - Perry 132
  19. Any idea where the live stream is for this? The tournament information on iswa.com says there is a live stream available on the website but I have not been able to locate it. Thanks is advance for the help!
  20. Although I disagree with you fundamentally on this issue as I think you still neglected the point made earlier about our Cadet/Junior wrestlers who travel all Spring to National level tournaments which just happen to be Folkstyle until May when Freestyle and Greco tournaments are available. It would show a great deal of good will to the kids up North and the kids who travel to these National tournaments if the ISWA would cut the number of tournaments required from 2 down to 1 even though many would like it to be zero. There is no doubt in my mind that the reason we are behind other states is not because there is a lack of participation in local Freestyle tournaments since many of the states that do well have very few local Freestyle/Greco tournaments. I suspect there may be many other reasons for Team Indiana is not always winning national freestyle/greco tournaments over Illinois and others that have very little to do with wrestling. One theory might be to think 5A schools vs. 1A schools in sports here in Indiana...The same may be able to be translated to state populations??? Indiana has around 6.5 million residents and Illinois has closer to 13 million and I suspect there is a disparity in the number of youth wrestlers also. Do they also have 50% more kids that wrestle in IL or even 30% more? I don't know the answer but seems like that might be something worth considering. Don't get me wrong Indiana kids can compete and win many already have and many more will but it just may not be every year in every weight class. Questions: Do we perform proportionally well for the size of our state? If not is this because of a lack of participation in the sport in Indiana or because of a lack of Freestyle/Greco skill?
  21. Read this thoroughly and calmly and see if it makes sense. My point here is not to prove anyone wrong but to offer some fact based points and what I believe is a fair view: If you want to do the compare us with Illinois hold them up as a model then you should first know they do not require individuals to wrestle in any local tournaments before entering Freestyle/Greco state. In fact they have very few local tournaments (almost none at all). Check for yourself to see what is listed http://www.ilusaw.comand http://www.illinoismatmen.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26 The quality of the Illinois team reflects a high participation in their Freestyle and Greco state tournaments where the best guys participate, win and make the teams. You are correct the events listed previously are Folkstyle but if you look at the USA wrestling schedule (http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Events) you'll notice the first national level Freestyle/Greco tournaments for high school aged kids don't start until May: May 5-9 Las Vegas Open and Junior Nationals _ Greco/Freestyle May 28-29 Asics UWW Cadet (FILA) Nationals - Greco/Freestyle June 12-14 Junior World Team Trials - Greco/Freestyle June is the month for Cadet and Junior National Duals July - Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo I also believe that The USAW regional tournaments are nearly all in May or after Are there some national level USAW freestyle tournaments for Cadets and Juniors before May? If so I am not aware of them at this time but feel free to list them. So high school kids (Cadets and Juniors) like Red who are the nations best and would like to compete with similar level competition will need to find national level competition and wrestle folkstyle until May when high level freestyle tournaments start. Many elite wrestlers participate Freestyle all Spring/Summer starting in May...and throughout the summer if your logic/concern is that a kid has yet to wrestle a freestyle tournament before ISWA State then you might consider moving State later into May or June (note I don't think moving state is a good idea). We definitely need more kids in Freestlye and Greco but I believe the approach is wrong. Not to mention the geographic disparity in "qualifying tournaments" for those in the north.
  22. Here is a reasonable scenario for a high level high school kid who would also like to compete at freestyle/greco state but also wrestle good national level competition in the Spring: March 28-29 High School Nationals - VA Beach April 2-4-‐USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals - Iowa April 9-11-‐National Scholastic Duals - Crawfordsville, IN April 18 ‐Tournament of Champions– Ohio April 25 - Possibly a local tournament? or a Prom or just a weekend off with family That scenario leaves the possibility of only one local tournament and you still need another....and leaves this kid out of freestyle/greco state. A real shame.... Plus the tournaments nearest to Elkhart, Ft. Wayne and the rest of the northern parts is usually a long drive away.
  23. Anybody know who else Meyer 220 from Lafayette Harrison lost to? I see he won the NCC today but has 2 previous loses on his record only one is listed on the rankings.
