  2. Jesse was offered the freestyle/Greco 91lb spot on USA wrestling International team competing in Medellin, Colombia based off of his Nationals performance this past year. financially my family can't afford to send him, but after talking to a several people I decided to start a gofundme account to help get him there. Jesse is really excited to have this experience to represent his country and Indiana. gofundme.com/22c7gefg

  3. Ok, I'll ask since it's been kinda boring around here lately...is this yet another indictment of the success of the ISWA 2 tourney mandate rule? I don't think 10 combined FF's for your top 2 state teams at a national tourney in your home state shows a growth in the styles, which I believe was one of the two outcomes that was hoped to be achieved.

I could only wonder how much better both Indiana teams would have been if there was a better selection process.  The host state should not have any FF's and they also shouldn't have any problems getting the best kids at every weight to wrestle.  Definitely need a new system.

I wonder how many Indiana All Americans will be crowned at USA Nationals in schoolboy division that were not allowed in this event.

  4. If ISWA would have just made a 1 tournament exemption for any of these 3 (USA Nationals, USA National Middle School Duals, and Heartland Elementary duals) there would not have been this outcry.  They also should have taken in account for those wrestlers injured.

The reason everyone is so pissed off is because the kids this rule is hurting are the kids that are wrestling every weekend, the kids that are training 3 days a week and doing private lessons in Greco, the kids that are trying to better themselves wrestling the best competition in the country, the kids that are going to the RTC's.  The people who chose to have a vacation or take a week off are not on here pissed off, all the people that are posting are parents with children who work their butt off and just want their kids to be able to go to their state tournament and showcase how hard they have been working.  So the reason I made this topic was in hope that ISWA would make a change once they saw how many people they were upsetting in this organization, but instead they turned blame on their members and didn't listen at all to our concerns.  And yes I called and emailed Louis Rosbottom, who did not want to hear any of these concerns.  The hundreds of dollars we spent at all 3 of the above events as a ISWA team member meant nothing to them, so yes I am bitter and completely unhappy with ISWA.  What does this teach your kid?  Why did he work hard to make these teams just to be punished by not being allowed in the state meet? The kids at RWA will continue to train freestyle and Greco and they will be ready to wrestle when the opportunity presents itself... apparently it won't be for ISWA events.

  5. The sad thing is people on this topic WANT to have kids wrestle freestyle, but the rules are preventing it. Telling kids and families they need to invest three weekends(two qualifiers and state) doesn't fly. With the number of RTC's out there kids are getting better by being in a room for two hours a couple times a week instead of traveling to some small tournament and shelling out a couple hundred bucks just to get a few matches in.

Be proud of spear-heading the demise of freestyle and greco in the state. I'm sure you will try to spin it off as helping the state.

Exactly. We want to wrestle, but with these rules in place we can't. And practice is so much more beneficial then a local meet. Doesn't ISWA want the best kids represented in a state tournament?

  6. Grecoref,

I get there is tons of 'national tournaments' most are just local tournaments that let surrounding states enter them. I am referring directly about ISWA's Nationsl tournament USA Nationals. I am also referring to ISWA national dual teams that they run for middle school and elementary. My main complaint was that anyone of these events should have appeased a 1 tournament exemption.

    Nick-

Going to these events and doing well opens up the eyes to everyone that is there. I am not stating that top colleges coaches are there, but everyone who is there is starting to take notice of Indiana. Also I have seen brands brothers at Celtic elite in tournament in IL and at USA nationals. Either way my only point was why are kids that are wrestling every weekend getting hurt by this rule. Also we can't wait for Fargo, it's a shame we can't compete in the schoolboy duals.

  7. -nick

No one cares about NUWAY national championship not just colleges. But you are out of your mind if you don't think coaches aren't taking notice at events like USA Nationals and Ohio TOC. As well as when Indiana was an OT match away from competing for a National title at the heartland duals. Why does ISWA sponsor these events if they are taking away from freestyle?

Also we attempted to get our 2 qualifiers in just so he could compete on schoolboy national team, but Penn moved their tournament. We are done competing on ISWA national teams until they start supporting their own wrestlers.

  8. Nick,

Why do you think that a kid has to participate in a freestyle tournament to be good at freestyle? Just bc my kid didn't wrestle in a freestyle tournament doesn't mean he doesn't train freestyle. Just bc the tournaments he wrestled in on the weekends during 'freestyle season' were folkstyle has no baring on wether or not my kid can compete at a very high level in freestyle. Wrestling the 25 matches against 15 different states the last few weekends definitely was better for him then 4-6 matches he would have got locally. And yes winning USA nationals and Ohio TOC is good for the state of Indiana. RWA does their part in training kids in the international styles, so don't worry come Fargo time.

  9. Everyone was upset in another topic about how we didn't put the best possible team together for the NWCA and how that looks bad because we are the host state.  Well what about the schoolboy duals, which Indiana is also hosting. Just wait and see how many of our best kids won't be on that team because they can't wrestle in their own state tournament.  Unless ISWA does a tryout or hand picks their team there is going to be a lot of top kids missing from the lineup.  It is a shame because my kid loves freestyle.  #boycottstate

  10. Side note PA Gold only beat Minnesota Storm 33-30 and after looking at match ups I have us beating PA Gold 36-35.  There was a lot of great young talent on this team whom I am sure will get it done next year.

  12. Apropos of nothing but on topic of this thread....

MYWAY (Michigan Association) is barring kids from their tournaments next year if they qualified for their state FK tourney and do not show up to wrestle it! Wonder how that's going over since their state tourney is Apr 1-3 the same time as some Natl tourneys? Maybe ISWA ain't so bad.....

April 1-3 is USA Nationals which is ISWA's national tournament.  MYWAY promotes NUWAY, which is why they are doing this.  They would never screw over their national wrestlers for wrestling in NUWAY or the NUWAY teams they put together.  So don't try to cast ISWA in a good light.

  13. I'm no longer an iswa board member so I'm out of the loop. With this said... Has anyone actually called a board member. To be honest... Very few board members get on this site (with exception to my brother Jmill). Also... I have been at every ISWA freestyle and Greco state for over a decade. Very few people if any actually walk up to the state chair or vice chairs and discuss stuff like this man to man. I'm not taking sides on this issue, but I would like to see some of the people that are crazy vocal on this message board, pick up there phone and call the powers to be. Or.... Better yet talk to them person to person. I can not say without a doubt that this will help or solve the problem, but.... I assure you that it will solve more issues than getting on this board a spewing venom. Again, I'm not taking sides in this matter, but if people feel this passionate about the issue I would love to hear how a conversation goes between them and a chair at the iswa.

Btw... That's how I became a board member to start with. I had concerns and ideas. I went to the iswa with my ideas, and they thought they were good. They then asked if I could give of myself to make wrestling better here, and I gladly stepped up and did what I could.

This message is not geared to anyone.... So, please do not take it the wrong way. The bottom line is this... Don't talk about it be about it!

I just got off the phone with Louis Rosbottom and he denied my request for 1 tournament exemption.  My argument was that we set our schedule when they set their schedule on their site.  We set aside this weekend and next, but then Penn moved there tournament just a week ago.  By this time we already made other commitments and also passed on wrestling on Bailey's national dual team march 26th.  I asked for an exemption for the 2 weekends that we are wrestling for ISWA's teams(middle school nationals and heartland duals).  I asked him why they are punishing a wrestler that worked his butt off to make both these teams as a 6th grader.  He said there will not be any waivers.

I also offered to pay host tournaments entry fee and he stated that it is not about money, but about wrestling opportunity it gives all the athletes.  Well then they should make sure there is a tournament offered every weekend. I just cancelled our hotel for Columbia City this weekend because if we can't get 2 in then why go to any of them.  Sucks it has to be this way.  I was bringing a few kids with me that were in the same boat, oh well.

We could careless about wrestling in the state tournament and going for a triple crown, it is really about not getting to wrestle in the schoolboy duals.  They can keep this dumbass rule if they want, but they need to host tryouts for schoolboy duals to insure that the best kids are represented on that team.

  14. I don't see why you need to have State before Central Regionals...according to all the documentation i found on https://usawevents.sportngin.com/page/show/1019235-central-regional-championships there is no qualification necessary.

As for the Schoolboy Duals team you could host a wrestle off much like what they do with the Heartland Duals. Ryan Parrish has done an amazing job with that system.

I think again the main failure here is the lack of communicating with the customers (wrestlers and their parents). Board members are on this forum and see what is said, the argument of "go to a meeting to explain your issues" is just simply dated at this point. We live in a world where constructive dialog can be had with people from all over the state and world the problem is if people are not willing to have that dialog we end up in the state we are in now and people are shaky about the decisions being made.

The VOLUNTEERS at the ISWA do a great job and I do believe they have the best of intentions but there is definitely an evolution that could happen to truly help elevate the state to the next level and help mend this clear rift that is forming between it and the wrestler/parents.

In the end I hope we can continue to grow and improve.

These are just my observations. Could be right could be wrong but nothing hurts discussing them.

State after regionals would be great and it could count as a qualifier.  Might help the attendance, which I noticed was awful when it was in indy.

I think a tryout for schoolboy duals is the best idea anyone has stated so far.  It is the only way to insure that Indiana gets the best kids at that event.

  15. Since there is a 2 tournament requirement shouldn't ISWA also require that atleast 1 tournament is available every weekend during this time?  We had the first 2 weekends set aside for the qualifiers, but now the 2nd weekend doesn't offer us a tournament.  When we decided to do Columbia City and Penn I then made a commitment to Indiana Outlaws to wrestle with them in the Viper Pit duals, which I will not break a commitment we already made.  Bailey has given my family a lot of wrestling opportunities and we won't leave them high and dry.  Plus my kid is really excited to wrestle on the same team as Hughes, BAM, Cummings, Parris, and Rypel(just a few I heard are wrestling on the team). I would be happy to donate money to Hanover or Penn if that would count.

It is not about believing my kid is too good for local FS tournaments, it is whether or not the 6-10 matches against the nations best is better then the FS matches we will get.

  16. Sorry just seen this after posting in youth wrestling.

Here is my post from over there.

    -----------------------------------------------

Compromise over Boycott. Here is a solution. I challenge the ISWA Board to vote on this:

Any wrestler who is on any ISWA team going to National Middle Schools duals and/or Heartland duals should have an automatic exemption for one Freestyle qualifier per ISWA team event.

This makes sense if any freestyle qualifier is held on the same weekend as the ISWA dual team tournaments.

The wrestler parents are already supporting the ISWA by spending hundreds of dollars on the out of state tournaments.

If their kid is doing both, over a thousand dollars when counting all travel expenses.

Note that I stated exemptions not waivers.

I do not think little Johnny should get a waiver because he had a baseball game.

    This is all about wrestling.

I like freestyle way better than folkstyle, but during the month of April, that is the prime month to seek out top competition for the younger wrestlers who are not Cadets or Juniors. Do not penalize these kids because Freesyle and Greco States are in May.

Most of these kids on these teams do not know off seasons and wrestle year around. They are at the Academy or Club training Freestyle and Greco. They already are training all styles for years to be ready for Fargo when they become Cadets and Juniors. They are the future of Indiana wrestling.

Do not preach to the choir. We want the same thing. Making Indiana wrestling better and better.

This is a perfect solution.  We aren't asking for a waiver or exemption bc we are doing something other then wrestling.  As I said before we were prepared to skip FloNationals to wrestle at Penn's freestyle tournament, but now there is not a freestyle tournament offered anywhere in Indiana that weekend. Penn moving their tournament to april 30th is going to hurt their attendance bc all the region kids that would have wrestled in it will be going to Hanover's freestyle tournament.

GrecoCoach stated that me bringing this up is getting old, but I don't think I am doing enough.  My son has worked his butt off to make these ISWA dual teams as well as prepare himself for USA Nationals and Ohio TOC.  My kid loves to wrestle and because he wrestles every weekend he will not be able to compete at freestyle state, it just doesn't make sense.  He doesn't play baseball or football he wrestles and these next few weeks are some of the best wrestling weekends in the nation and I will not sacrifice him getting these amazing opportunities just to qualify for state.  I feel bad for him because now he won't be able to represent Indiana in the schoolboy duals, but I don't see any other way to get the qualifiers in. So please ISWA board members look into helping the kids that are wrestling every weekend get an exemption into your state tournament.

  17. Easy solution would be to grant a waiver to any kid who wrestles in at least 2 out of these 3 events. (USA Nationals, Middle School National Duals, or Heartland Elementary Duals).  Both of these dual teams are ran by ISWA and the other tournament is their National tournament.
