NJ has Baumgartner, Mocco and Cassar
Minn. has Lesnar, Nelson, Kerkvliet and (arguably) Steveson
PA and Ohio have had multiple each.

Its an interesting topic for sure.  I'd probably give it to NJ considering Bruce went there and he may be the most underappreciated wrestler of all time.

We will kick off our first Mondays at Mooresville RTC March 4, 6pm - 7:30pm.  Our first clinician will be Briar Runyon.  State champ and former head coach at Martinsville High school.  It will be a folkstyle RTC to prep for ISWA folkstyle state.  Last year we averaged 40 + kids and had more than 10 schools represented during the RTC season.

Come get better and remember it is FREE just have to have USA wrestling card.

Watching this Iowa vs Wisc dual and Rathjen takes injury time as he’s getting taken down.  Official gives the injury time, Rathjen continues after a short break and doesn’t give the 3 pt td.

Reminds me of one of my biggest issues watching wrestling this weekend.  Coaches allowing their kids to take a time out when the going gets tough.  Weak.  One of the countless things that separates wrestling from the stupid sports like basketball, no timeouts when it’s getting real, you have to deal with it.

Dissapointing the programs that are ok with taking a breather for that mental break when adversity has set in.

Glad to see that the 2 wild card vote-ins will be in December vs May.

We are happy to host the first 5 schools out of the vote-in for a super dual. When the final placements come out I will reach out the numbers 11-15 to try and find a date in early December.

Hosting our own Wildcard weekend in Indy.

Yup, Appreciate your kind words but it’s real simple for me . Just keep it the same . People can rant change all they want . We want this .  It’s just blah blah blah to me .

“Opportunities and resources” I once lived in the Mean Streets of Muncie . I took my sons to the Pal Club to wrestle at . That’s all we had back then in the MSofM . Then I invested in my sons at this sport because as parent that seen Champions in them . So I drove 3 days a week to CIA when they was Cathedral HS for practices . About 1 hour 20 mins one way . Did that for about a year . Don’t miss that drive because at the time I was working in Indianapolis Westside . So I drove another Hour and half to work everyday . Lots of miles .  Finally moved my family closer .

So to me, if you wanna get better go seek out those opportunities and resources at a small schools. Go seek out the best for your kids . If there’s a will there’s a way .

    That’s all I’m going to say . 😊

The Owen Valley High School wrestling team has one main goal – to make the Class 2A Team state tournament. On Sunday the Patriots will find out if they get invited to the tourney.

“Last year getting to team state was our goal,” Patriot coach Steven Spicer said. “Nothing’s changed for this year. We have talked about it all offseason. The guys know what the goal is. They have bought in. If we get in, it will be huge for our program.”

Last season was the first time Owen Valley’s wrestling team was ever ranked in Class 2A. Spicer felt it would come down to a dual meet between the Patriots and Monrovia for the final spot in the team state field. In that dual meet Monrovia won by three points, and got in.

I may be late to the party here but always want to promote ways to grow wrestling and give credit where it’s due.

Long time PHHS head coach, Dave Cloud, has been a staple in growing Indiana high school wrestling for 40+ years. And the grind never stops! So before the season he had the idea of a half time show! After a discussion with the IHSAA to work out logistics, it was determined it would be the first in Indiana!
Next comes, Hit The Mat Studios which is a YouTube channel about Indiana High School Wrestling ran by Mike Estep. Mike is a great guy looking to promote Indiana High School Wrestling all over the state.
So we invited him for our first home dual of the year which included Indiana’s first ever high school wrestling half time show. Half time show was wild game of bubble ball between the PH track and baseball teams.(if you don’t know about bubble ball go check it out on the YouTube channel)

Link to YouTube channel is below. I hope you all go and support the channel and invite him to your events for coverage.

Lastly, just wanted to give a shout out to these two men for continuing to look for new opportunities to grow and spread the word on Indiana high school wrestling. Keep up the good work gentleman!!

hcsd309 reacted to Holden in This sport is about LOVE!
    All,

I want to share a story about the kind of people we have in this sport.  Last Saturday Greenfield had a young lady injured in a match at New Palestine High School.  It was a head and neck injury that required her to be transported to the hospital via ambulance.  She and her parents had never been through something like this before and were justifiably shaken.

On Tuesday of this week I was called down to the athletic office.  We had received a package.  It was a box of flowers addressed to the young lady who was injured.  They were sent from the Columbia City Wrestling Program.  I know it's a little thing and some people may not understand, but it touched me and my program.

People think wrestling is about working hard, sweating, bleeding, beating on people, etc..., but it's not.  It's above LOVING each other.  I wan't to thank Columbia City for giving my program an example of how people are supposed to love each other.

    Thank you!

OMG! Just go wrestle! Quit whining if a kid goes to a public or private school. You guys should know by now it doesn't matter what school you go to it matters how much off season work you're doing. 4 momths in a HS room isn't going to make a state champ wrestler or team. Look at the top tier guys and schools they are not just wrestling in season. I cannot believe we have people complaining from a 1200 person School that a little 500 person School is beating them. Tell your kids to get to work you are not going to get there by just wrestling in season. And if they're better than you then so be it if someone is better than us we don't complain that they should be in a different class we are going all the way to the top to find the best competition we can find. What else do you want from a 500 kid school? I thought wrestlers didn't make excuses!

hcsd309 reacted to Websterk149 in RIP Coach Kelly Cronk
Hey all, just wanted to get on here and post that former Head Coach  of Shenandoah High, Kelly Cronk, passed away peacefully last week. Not sure how many know of his history or coaching resume as he coached for 24 years with 1999 being his last year. Even I did not know how big he was in the area until really I got to high school and that was after having him as my teacher in middle school lol just thought he was a guy asking me weird questions about my wrestling all the time (no joke). Then I learned how big of a persona and coach he was in the New Castle area and hearing stories from guys like Coach Black Sr. and Coach Hamm & Hale, Coach Walker, Coach Lewis, Coach Widner, my dad and many more did I truly realize I had the pleasure of meeting a once in lifetime man. Just some quick facts about the legend, he was known for the "Tasmanian" devil as the mascot and his Coach Gable like coaching approach; He took 8 wrestlers to state during time, having a few placers with 1 being a runner up; Coach was inducted into Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1999; I know I'm forgetting many other things I'm forgetting, but Coach did all of this in wrestling after learning about the sport in college and participating in Ball State's club team, never wrestled legitimately . RIP Coach Cronk, you will truly be missed seeing at a scores table or head table at a Shenandoah or New Castle wrestling event. I'm sure there are guys like FCFighter and Coach Black and many others with knowledge of Coach, just wanted Indiana wrestling to know we lost a brother.
