  1. Is Mason Parris still planning to play football in college, too? If so, it would be hard to imagine that he would be considering a cut to 197. First of all, let me say that I don't know Mason at all. However, I'm pretty sure he weighed several pounds under 182 during his freshman season when he wrestled 182. So just speculating, but I would guess he was probably still some amount under 220 his sophomore year. So further speculating, I would guess his weight has been determined more by football than wrestling up to this point. So if he is planning to play football at Michigan, I would doubt he will be making any cuts. Just speculating though.
  2. Indeed a great job, OTR! Thank you for your efforts. As for Majors of Lawrence North, not bad for his first year of high school wrestling. He just seemed to get better every week until his placing at state. Not surprising that he was one of the six not in the rankings who placed at state.
  3. I think there were at least a few individuals who lost matches during the season, too, who were named state champions because they won under the lights on Saturday night.
  4. That doesn't seem like a very fair statement. They came away with 4 state titles. And even they were down quite a bit in over all placements, I hardly think being down one year constitutes being over-rated.
  5. ????? I assume you mean a scaled up Davison or a scaled down Parris? I assume you wouldn't want Davison to have to wrestle someone who is maybe 25 pounds heavier, a lot stronger, perhaps just as quick, and at this point a more accomplished wrestler. Davison is a very fine wrestler who just won his first state championship and is going to be attending a Big Ten school. But didn't Davison just barely squeeze out a double overtime semi-finals match to advance to the championship round? Meanwhile, Parris just completely dominated his 3rd consecutive state finals. He seemed to easily pin some very fine wrestlers in their own right. The wrestlers Parris wrestled were no jokes. Parris is ranked where he is nationally for a very good reason. Mason is one of the truly great wrestlers in IHSAA history. So I don't think I would wish Parris on Davidson ... unless you were at least doing some size scaling.
  6. I had EC. 24 FW 22 NC 35 Ev 31
  7. Poynter gaving to injury default was a bummer.
  8. That is, it reduces the amount of seats available at typical high school venues where bleachers need to be pushed back to accomodate all the necessary mats.
  9. Plus the room needed on the floor for wrestling is larger (4 mats) than for other indoor sports, which greatly reduces the amount of seats that are available for spectators at large wrestling events like semi-states.
  10. And other than perhaps basketball, wrestling semi-states have more spectators than for other indoor sports.
  11. I haven't attended basketball semi-states in the past several years, but when I did they used to be held at venues like Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indy and Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, etc. I don't know what they do anymore.
  12. I doubt if the ranking guy "slept on" him. I think he was probably quite aware of him. It can be difficult splitting the rankings of undefeated wrestlers who have few common opponents. State will indeed be exciting to watch at that weight class.
  13. And it certainly isn't easy to predict ranked wrestlers missing weight at sectionals, regionals, etc., either. ? Congratulations and a big thank you to Ontherise219 and all the other ranking mavens for their fine work.
  14. Hey, Fabio is originally from the region. He doesn't have the central to east central geography memorized yet.
  15. Agreed. I'm not sure OW ballots should be accepted until last finals match is completed.
  16. May be true, but some folks like comparing relative strengths of not only semi-states, but also regionals, sectionals, conferences, counties, regions, public vs PPs, state-to-state, class-to-class, recruiters vs non-recruiters, academy-to-academy, etc. (Did I miss any?)
  17. Perseverance, Thank you for tabulating that for us. i notice though that you have 6 at 145. I think that weight class should be 2-1-1-1. Also, I think 120 should be 3-0-1-1. (At least I think Jimtown is in Ft.Wayne SS.) And at 132, I think it should be 2-2-0-1. if my calculations are correct, then I think the sums would then be 22-21-9-18.
  18. Oh my, yes! That was one stunner. Unless you are the single most dominate wrestler in your weight class, you are for sure not guaranteed a trip to state.
  19. Ha ha Good point. And it would probably be an even better point if college had a 220 lb weight class. So how many of those little girl Olympic gymnasts go on to participate in college?
  20. Yeah, he lost two tough matches, also losing to Obst in semis. I don't think top 4 advanced.
  21. Please clarify what you are saying?
  22. It was indeed a fun match to watch.
