  1. I don't know the kid personally, but to call him a punk on this board, makes me wonder who the punk really is. I also think there was more to the story of him jumping into the arms of the other coach. Maybe they have a connection nobody else knows about. That coach didn't seem to mind. He seemed happy for the young man. Just my thoughts on things.
  2. I agree totally! It is 10:30 to 11:00 when this thing ends, and I have a 2 hour drive home. I stay for the heavy weights but simply can't stay for the mental attitude award but would love to. Why not announce it when they are recognizing the outstanding official for the year. This award is too important to present it to an empty arena. This tournament doesn't need to end at 10:30 by the way. That dumba%% 3 hour break before the consolations and finals is ridiculous. I realize that it is about selling tickets for the different rounds and about the almighty dollar, but for the love of God, just make all tickets $20 regardless of when you come and not evacuate the arena for this round. Take an hour break and start consolations. It would be over at 8 oclock and people could then get home at a decent hour. That 3 hour break is by far the worst part of this experience. Almost enough to keep me from coming back the next year.

Nobody is bashing on you personally young man. That is the nature of big man wrestling versus little guy wrestling. You should be very proud of yourself. You represented your school, family, and community very well. Most importantly you represented yourself well. No matter what comments are said on this board, you were a state runner-up. I can't say that and I dare say most of the people making the comments can't say that either. I don't know you but heck I am proud of you. You will never forget this past weekend as long as you live. This fan thanks you for your hard work and dedication.
  4. I don't think 182 was any weaker than 220. Sure 220 was more competitive, but 182 at least had wrestlers actually attempting some offense.
  5. The weird thing was, it didn't seem like Sliga was even really holding on to Berry with his hands and arms. It was more like he ended up in a very fortunate position and just kept his weight centered where it needed to be. Pretty strange. Sliga was gonna win anyway in my opinion. Being a region fan I was definately pulling for a 9th champion.
  6. It did come off as rude, but I don't think it was intentional. Just an excited young man realizing that this moment was a once in a life time thing. Let's not be too hard on him.
  7. I thought it was pretty good from top to bottom. The Logansport regional actually had some success this year for a change. Congrats to Tanner, Christian Winkle, Alex Griffin, and Adrian Brown as well as the others who qualified. Hard work and dedication do pay off regardless of what part of the state you compete in.
  8. I agree that last night's match was exciting, but I still have to say last year's match between Ayersman and Campbell was the best match I have ever seen.

The young man deserves credit. He did win a state title, but this weight class is always this way. Very little offensive action. When the finals gets above 152, the excitement level drops considerable because the big guys mostly just hand battle. Makes for pretty dull wrestling. This is why taking away a light weight class and adding a 195 pound class was a huge mistake IMO. Still, congrats to all the wrestlers big and small.
  10. Exactly what I was thinking, except I am from Merrillville SS, so I guess I am pulling for the Culver Academies wrestler not because she is female but cause she is a feisty, talented, and dedicated wrestler. I might also add that she demonstrates grace in defeat as well as victory. Good luck to both.
  11. I agree. I won't be taking part this year for the first time. Not that it matters though cause my picks usually suck ;D
  12. I suspect that deep down, Homesweethome is like the rest of us and is simply disappointed that this young man won't be able to show us the great wrestling that his has given us over the past three years. I feel that this poster can't be serious. This has to be a bad attempt to get a rise out of everyone. Because if he is seriously ripping on this great wrestler and fine, courageous young man, then the wrestling community doesn't need a fan like this. My advice to this poster is to please stay home. I for one don't want you there. By the way, you are entitled to your opinion, but please when your message is this negative you are missing the true intent of our great sport. Please keep your opinions to yourself.
  13. The only statement I was really making was that I felt Boston was close to maxing out 103 pounds last year and Micic was about 8 pounds under, from what I was told. If that is accurate, Yes I would expect Micic to be much more difficult to deal with this year. We will see.
  14. I may be stepping in the middle of a feud here between other parties, and I am not going to single out a kid, but I agree that this rule is crap. No, I do not think 2 hours is enough time to miraculously feel well enough to wrestle when he was too injured to wrestle 2 hours earlier. It is called intentionally taking a dive to conserve energy for the 3rd and 4th place match. Given the importance of the first round matches on Friday, this is unfair to the other wrestler who did have the courage to wrestle his semi final match at semi state. If a kid defaults his semi final match, he should most definitely be forced to default his consolation match as well. I can't believe this is allowed. The only exception should be if the defaulting wrestler started the match and was injured do to an illegal move such as a slam. Other than that it's called cheating. Sorry if you don't agree.
  15. I don't have a clue as to how he is going to do against Jackson either, but to say he has had a lack of competition is a bit disrespectful considering he just walked out champion from the best semi state in the state. Trust me, the conference that McCutcheon is in is excellent competition in itself. This kid was excellent last year but lost a close one in the ticket round and IMO he is way better this year. His top 5 ranking is legit, and I dare say he will give Jackson all he wants. I do not see him losing his first two rounds. I don't even think these two matches will be close.
  16. I would also agree with this, but if I'm not mistaken Micic was way under weight last year and gave Boston all he wanted. With a bigger and stronger Micic, I gotta go with him, plus he looked fantastic at Merrillville.
  17. He got screwed. Too bad. He could have done well in Indy.
  18. Todd may win but I guarantee two things, the score will be closer, and he won't hold Petrov scoreless.
  19. This match wouldn't be close. Sarah is a good wrestler, but Kayla is a great wrestler.
  20. I liked watching wrestling at MSA even better than Conseco. That might be because it was pre 911 and security wasn't as big a pain in the butt. You could leave the building and return with a pass out. You could also leave your belongings in your seat to save your place between rounds on Saturday so you didn't have to wait in line again for the consolation and final rounds. That wait in line for the last session is a big suck-fest. My least favorite part of the state finals for sure. By that time in the weekend you're tired and have already waited in that ridiculous mess twice. Oh well, watcha gonna do? It's worth the wait for me.
  21. I think the question is: Was an injury truly behind the decision to not wrestle? In Danny's case it truly was to rest the healing leg or ankle. It wasn't due to poor attitude because of a loss. Big difference. I do not know the situation concerning the Phillips boy or pretend to know, but the circumstances are everything.
  22. I don't know about mean, but it was a crappy way to end an OT match. You see some officials simply point at the foot until the wrestler gets his foot on the line without issuing a caution. This shouldn't be the same infraction as a true false start. I know that a rule is a rule, but what advantage did the Logan kid gain cause his toe was an inch from the line. I just don't think the true intent of the false start rule was applied here. Feel horrible for the Logan kid.
  23. I forgot bout this one, who won out of this mess? There were several state champions in that one.
  24. I realize Todd is defending champ, but i gotta go Petrov in this one. Gut feeling.
  25. Ya think? He couldn't get that feat accomplished last year or yesterday for that matter. If is is hurt what makes you think he is going to be able to get it done Friday night against Crume? I don't see Phillips wrestling on Saturday IMO.
