Really nice foresight by the Peru coaches on this. They seen the chance for a defensive fall as soon as he pulled him on top of himself and got the ref into place. "Quick" call or not he was flat and is at the ref's mercy at that point
I was having the conversation of great matches and I believe it was last years match with Brandon Campbell (New Castle) and I Paul Petrov (Hanover). Will forever be one of the best matches I've ever seen.
Takes me back to state 2 years ago and Jimmy West from South Adams was DQ'd on saturday morning after a very petty call by an official and the kid he was wrestling pleaded to the ref to not let the match end that way..and to no avail, Jimmy was disqualified in what truly has to be one of officiating's worst moments..
Observation from today's wrestling at Ft Wayne. I've always felt this is a well ran and finished at a decent time. This year was, like always ran extremely well (Snider High School). But the last matched finished around 8:20.. Now this was only wrestling back through 5/6. The chance of having a full wrestle back to for true 3rd and 4th is inevitable in one day of wrestling..Makes me feel like we are further away from this ever happening. How did other semi states do on time and some thoughts about the wrestle backs..
I will say this without hesitation, I do believe (obviously with a different draw) That Heistand, Malcolm and Luginbill were the TOP 3 in that weight class today..
So let me ask this, was this something that could have been avoided if the official stops the match for potentially dangerous? Avoid both injury and controversy?
I'll add one more from the Ft Wayne Semi State and that was The heavyweight from Jay County Hemmelgarn (I'm sure the spelling is wrong). Pinned Matt Beard ( another great wrestler) in the finals.
he ran out of injury time from an apparent illegal move. Luginbill couldn't finish the match. Malcolm won his first wrestle back and Luginbill lost in the semis.
to be the best you've got to beat the best. Yes I think as a group we would all like to see wrestle backs, but to be honest with ya There is nothing more exciting when you see some of these matches. You watch it and know that they both should be top 8 in the state, but somebody's going home and somebody's going on!
I see what your saying and I completely agree with that if they had a wrestle back format. I would be entirely in favor of that. but until that change is made i think it should be 6 minute matches regardless of what place you are going for
Ya i dont think it would be popular at all, and with not having wrestle backs currently in the state series then why justify cutting a match a minute short? Seems silly.
