Jayruss got a reaction from GTboyz in Kyrel Leavell

Congrats to Kyrel 3rd, 1st, 3rd, and 1st. One hell of a HS career. He's a great representative of the Far Eastside #justakid

Jayruss reacted to aoberlin in Kyrel Leavell
For anyone that knows Waylon when it comes to wrestling he has a mindset at all times to score points and break his opponent. All the while being confident he will do that. What is wrong with that? His speech reflected that and the question is asked less than 5 minutes after he just got done taking care of business. You think his mindset changed that fast? The kid just went full throttle on a very tough bracket. Being humble in an interview is not be a requirement. Being confident in your ability is if you want to win on that level.

Jayruss reacted to Justin Ratliff in Semi-State Supremacy
Evansville is not only in the top four semi-states. It is THE top.
Nearly as many medals as East Chicago and the Fort combined. Not even a contest. Evansville is "Prelim State". All the others are semi-states.

I don't like mentioning my son on message boards but he's done with HS wrestling. I'll say this... Kyrel wrestled likely the best he ever has on Saturday. Tony put his best out there and it wans't good enough. Then Kyrel backed that up with a better performance in the finals. Congrats to Kyrel, had a great tourney! I hope he kills it at The Citadel.

Jayruss reacted to Lat Drop in Kyrel Leavell
The joke was, when asked about being a teammate with Kyrell, after winning the state title himself, Cressell went on to talk about how it was nothing new for him to win a state title and he knew he was going to win. It's a joke brother. Not taking anything away from the two-timer, he's a stud, as I previously stated lol.

Jayruss reacted to HWTDAD in Kyrel Leavell
It must have because there was no hating there. He was making a joke with the even Waylon Cressel would tell you that line. Yikes

Jayruss reacted to blueandgold in Kyrel Leavell
This is a nasty level of hating. Kyrel pinned and teched his way through John Hurrle, pinned his way through Marion County, pinned and teched his way to the Al Smith finals, got two falls in the matches Warren wrestled at Team State, pinned his way through sectionals, pinned and teched his way through regionals, pinned his way through semi-state, and teched his opening round at State, won his semis 9-3, and pinned the #1 in the finals… DOMINANT without a doubt.

Congrats Leavell, Great HS Career . Good luck at the next level .

Jayruss reacted to M109R in Kyrel Leavell
I knew when I watched his loss to Shepard at the Al Smith, a rematch could go either way. They are both elite and could beat each other on any given day. That given day was Saturday on the states largest stage. Congrats to Leavell for getting it done.

Jayruss reacted to Bkelley14 in Flo gave Indiana some love
Anyone else listen to FRL?
They gave Indiana some love today when they were answering questions from listeners.
Ben Askren and Christian Pyles named us as a top 5 hardest state to win State in. Then they mentioned us as one of the best state championship atmospheres. And then they shouted out Ocampo for placing!

Had it not been for the one loss he suffered at Al Smith to Shepherd, he’d be my pick for most dominant wrestler this season. Just absolutely insane strength on top and he wrestles with so much finesse. I’m happy he avenged that loss in top form, though. Congrats, Rello!

Jayruss got a reaction from blueandgold in ‘23 vs ‘24 champs
‘23 listed first followed by ‘24
106-(41-5) Dickman vs Schoettle (43-1)
rolling with Dickman 3-2 but a very tough match.
113- (42-2) LaRocca vs (41-2) Dickman
I think Dickman stays dominant at 5-2
120- (33-4) Hockaday vs LaRocca (37-5) I have Hockaday 5-3
126-(42-0) Thrine vs Rioux (40-5)
Thrine could’ve walked on water last year at state and I wouldn’t be surprised. Thrine 5-4 OT
132- (42-0) Buttler vs (37-2) Hockaday
Buttler is game like Thrine, but Hockaday rolls to a major 12-4.
138- (48-1) Solomey vs (44-1) Leavell
the toughest one to call so I had to go with who traversed the harder path and that will be Solomey. 3-2 TB Cole
145/144- (52-0) Torres vs (39-0) Doster
an 0 gotta go, and Torres was on fire last year so give me 5-3 Torres.
152/150 (44-0) Lowery vs (40-2) Kresja
Match of the night ? Give me The Terminator Kresja 3-1
160/157- (39-2) Goin vs (41-1) Betz
Goin 5-3 in a tight one.
170/165- (25-4) Goodwin vs (41-1) Cressell. If Goodwin had the chops to beat undefeated Rulhman under the lights then he’ll get the jump on the sophomore and wins 5-1.
182/175- (35-2) Cruz vs (42-2) Leech
Cruz cruises to a 6-2 win
195/190- (44-1) Purdy vs (50-0) Weaver
Very tough match but Weaver wins 5-4.
220/215- (38-3) Clark vs (33-3) Clark
a year older Clark wins 6-4
285- (37-5 ) Jones vs Johnson (27-1) I think the battle tested Jones wins 4-3 OT
Final score 24-16 in favor of 2023.

Jayruss reacted to SIACfan in Penn State team best ever ?
It is hard to compare teams from different era's, but Iowa's 1997 squad scored the most team points in NCAA history with 170. They had 5 champs & 8 AA's that year.
Let's see how PSU ends the season this year. Won't be easy to beat that overall team performance.
FWI, I'm not sure if the scoring is still the same as it was in 1997.

Jayruss reacted to Adam_glass in Christian White
I just wanted to give a little appreciation post for Christian White here. This is a guy who his junior year placed 6th at state and then his senior year lost in the ticket round, and now he is stepping in and winning big ten matches. As a Purdue student I’m a big fan of the wrestling team and I go to most of the events and this dude is wrestling at a high level. He pushed Indiana’s ranked grad student Fongaro to the end and almost had the takedown in the last seconds for the win. Sunday he stepped into the varsity roster and caught a Big ten win. He’s wrestling at a National qualifier level even though he didn’t make it to state his senior year, and that is seriously impressive. He’s earned his flowers

Jayruss reacted to littlevito in Thoughts about state tournament
I am totally fine rotating the state tournament between cities for the future. We have highly enjoyed it in Evansville. Sure it is a farther drive, but who cares.

The tournament is well ran. No complaints at all with Evansville or the Ford Center.

Watching IhsaaTv from home . The Announcers for all 4 mats are perhaps the best I've ever encountered watching a large Tournament. They are all past wrestlers and very knowledgeable .

Jayruss reacted to MattM in Post State Finals Accolades and Discussion
Congrats to Waylon Cressell. Several out of state studs have come into Indiana over the past several decades, but most don’t win out single class state title. If you take away Sergio Lemley’s Covid Year (and he’s actually a IN born and raised that jumped borders for school) I’m not sure we can find too many out of state studs that won a title here. Especially year one.
