"In case you missed our big announcement last night here are the details.

We are giving out seven awards this year to coaches and wrestlers.
1A, 2A, and 3A Wrestler of the Year awards
This will go to the top wrestler in each class and the IndianaMat staff will vote if two wrestlers finished the same place.

1A, 2A, and 3A Coach of the Year awards
This will go to coaches based on their team's performance throughout the season. This will be voted on my the IndianaMat staff and we will consider many factors.

Mr. Gorilla- Indiana Wrestler of the Year award
This will go to a senior and have voters from around the state voting for it. The recipient will be ineligible for the class wrestler of the year awards.

Starting in early November we will have a Mr. Gorilla watch list for you to follow throughout the season.

Each award winner will receive an awesome trophy to display and we will show pictures once they make their way to Waterloo in the next couple weeks. "

I have to agree, but I think I may be a little bias.  Although the facial hair was an unfair advantage making Forte look more like Wolverine while Cash looked more like Spiderman, lol

Tomorrows the show to announce the winner of the vote! It is still pretty tight between the tommys. Pepple would need a lot of votes to get back in. He had a great high school career also

I voted for Cash because I thought Lee was going to pin him. He impressed me more than anyone last weekend. Didn't think he had a chance to win.

My vote went to Lydy he was pretty solid this season. Although I also almost clicked Stevenson for placing 6th on one leg. Arguments can be made for all these guys, all would be great choices. I am excited to see who brings home the first award.

I was surprised lydy was so low he was really impressive. Does anyone know where he's going to college?

Lydy hasn't finalized his decision on college.

 

Should happen after a few visit post national duals.

IMO...Mr Gorilla award should look at not what they just do on the mat. But maybe off the mat too and what they achieved in the classroom. Maybe a thought for next year?

The criteria for selection will be left intentionally vague as we want a variety of opinions as to who the voters think is the best wrestler.  Some general criteria that can be considered is listed here:

1. Must be a senior

2. Undefeated/fewest losses.  A midseason loss would not disqualify a wrestler.

3. Domination.  Number of pins, tech falls 

4. Level of competition.

5. Body of work previous to senior year.  State and national resume.

6. Character

7. Grades

Any, or all of these may, or may not, be taken into consideration by you as a voter when making your selections.  Remember, we are looking for who you think is the top senior based on your judgement.  You are one of 39 voters that IndianaMat has chosen to make this selection because we value your knowledge and experience regarding Indiana high school wrestling.  Thank you for undertaking this responsibility.
