Chi Town Hustler
I would say Merriville is a pretty safe bet on most champs in the last five years, followed by New Castle, Evansville, and Fort Wayne. Da region has been blessed with a number of large schools who really push wrestling.
pjayroza
I am pretty sure it has been Merrillville. But that is an interesting question.
Justdo^it135
This post is already 1/2 an hour old and Y2 has yet to post the statistics. I can't believe it. C'mon man, get on top of this. :

Champs by Semi-State Merrillville- 31 (44.3%) New Castle- 18 (25.7%) Evansville- 12 (17.1%) Fort Wayne- 7 (10%) Shouldn't these numbers add up to 70? 14 state champs a year over 5 years

MattM
Just spit balling, but if some of the intent of the question was to discuss which area has the most depth then I would say total state placers over the last 5 years may be a more telling statistic to look at. That involves a little more statistical analysis though.
Wrestler125
According to the IHSAA we are only concerned with the winners. The rest of the field (state placers) does not matter.

Seems like with the exception of 2011, when Evansville dominated every other semi-state, Fort Wayne has been a better semi-state than E-ville in terms of state champions over the past five years. I agree that total state placers would be a somewhat better measure though. Who's got time on their hands?
mustang13
So a better question would be which semi-state has had more state placers in the past 5 years?

benni hanna 79
Merillville has had 117 placers in the last four years. That's out of 448. A little over 25%
observer
Merillville has had 117 placers in the last four years. That's out of 448. A little over 25% If this is correct that would mean that half of the state qualifiers from the merrillville semistate placed. That is pretty good I would guess because only 4 can place in each weight class. Correct me if I am wrong. Not a math major.
