New Haven Sectional

You see so many forfeits because the SAC has been so weak recently. The sectional has been a two team race between Homestead and New Haven for a while now, followed by Heritage and Woodlan, though Snider can usually produce a few good individuals.  I really don't see too many upsets, and most of the #1 seeds should hold, although 160 and 171 seem like tossups to me.  If the seeds are right, Homestead gets five champs, NH gets three, Heritage gets three, and Snider, Woodlan, and Wayne all get one.  (On a side note, Ill be rooting for Waynes first sectional champ in a while, Red McCurrie, kids a stud and freak athlete.) Homestead should walk off with their second straight sectional title.

Two years in a row that sectional came down to a half point, WOW!

It was pretty crazy finish Joe.  In the wrestleback match to decide who goes for 5/6 and who goes for 3/4 at 285 were Snider and Homestead.  The Homestead kid had only wrestled one varsity match (he's a soph but this was his first season wrestling at the h.s. level) and is in the lineup only because the regular 285 for Homestead is out with a skin condition.  The Homestead kid wins the wrestleback match against the Snider kid, then in their final matches the Snider kid gets bonus points by pinning his kid for 5th and the Homestead kid gets bonus points for pinning his kid for 3rd, within a couple of minutes of each other.  It was a crazy atmosphere for sure.  The difference between Snider and Homestead is that Snider placed 13 of 14 wrestlers in the top 6 whereas Homestead only placed 10 of 14 in the top 6.  Having 4 more individual champs than Snider wasn't enough for Homestead to make up that difference.  Those wrestlebacks mean everything.

I'm guessing anyone who really knows what happened with coach Early's situation isn't going to post it on a public forum. But since the coaching change was made mid season it was most likely due to the coach making an inappropriate decision that either placed an athlete in danger or that did not reflect upon the program in a professional manner.

Either way it seems as if the program is better off and on the right track.
