  1. The SAC is unlucky that Carroll isn't in the SAC when it comes to wrestling. Carroll has a better program than SAC schools and them joining the SAC would only help teams to improve. Carroll is outside of FWCS which already provides them with a step up as there's more consistency and support from their administration. FWCS doesn't provide the same level of athletic support and focus except for a few events such as the SAC Holiday basketball tournament. If you look at things like access to resources, feeder programs, coaching longevity, training facilities, family support, community support, and competition schedule it makes complete sense that Carroll is a better program. FWCS has a long way to go to get to Carroll’s level but it’s not an impossible task. One of the best things to improve programs would be to increase the difficulty of a programs schedule and create a system that provides stability and accountability for the athletes. Most FWCS wrestlers first learn about wrestling when they’re in High School and many programs have few 4 year wrestlers. That’s a huge disadvantage especially in a sport like wrestling where mat time means so much for an athlete’s comfortability and confidence. There’s a lot of weird and unnatural positions, in comparison to other sports, that wrestlers find themselves in and this is where many FWCS wrestlers have difficulties. Setting up feeder programs would do wonders for FWCS programs but FWCS administration makes it very difficult to do so. If Carroll joined the SAC I’m sure they wouldn’t enjoy it as it would reduce the competitiveness of their schedule as they would have to attend the SAC team tournament, along with the SAC individual tournament. It would however greatly help other teams as it would provide a new measuring stick. Carroll would win the conference titles for a few years but the competition would increase the overall talent of Northeast Indiana. I know it can be discouraging for athletes to place in the top spots of their conference and then not advance to Regionals or Semi-State. Many wrestlers would rather not be a conference champion if it meant advancing further in the state tournament. I’d rather be a 20-10 State Qualifier than a 29-1 Sectional participant.
  2. 220: Snyder of Wayne defeated Whitner at the S.A.C Duals. They are currently 1-1 against each other this season with Snyder winning the last time they met.
  3. The teams are: Cathedral Avon Warren Central Bellmont Triton Central Fort Wayne Wayne
  4. Davis will be wrestling no lower than 113 this year.
  5. If you are referring to me being nearsighted I would have to disagree. I am arguing that athletes shouldn't be written off because of the Semi-State that they come from regardless of the Semi-State's overall success. I also know that there are a lot of athletes who say they are going to win state and truly believe it but unfortunately it doesn't come to fruition. Stating that you are going to win a state title and then not preparing or executing on it won't automatically give you a state title. Also, just because a wrestler doesn't come from an elite program doesn't mean they can't find success as a wrestler or as a coach. it seems that you normally fight for the underdog or the wrestlers who are not as well known so it seems weird that you have the feeling that coaches who aren't from elite programs would stifle the dreams or success of a wrestler. I think that most coaches would try to assist their wrestlers in realizing the effort that is needed in order to accomplish their goals. Wrestlers at different levels will need varying levels of effort to accomplish the same goal.
  6. I thought the official handled the situation very well. The doctors note wasn't on the IHSAA form and the official said they would allow the wrestler to go to RediMed and attempt to get a note on the IHSAA form and then come back. I don't think any official wants to keep an athlete from competing but it is their responsibility to make sure the other athletes aren't put at risk to contract a skin infection.
  7. Geoffrey Davis defeated Ben Streeter with a final score of 13-6. Geoff scored a takedown in the last few seconds.
  8. The Seeding meeting hasn't happened yet. It will be tonight at 7 PM. I'm sure brackets will be posted afterwards.
  9. Indiana Native Kanez Omar(Cleveland State) had a close decision to 2X NCAA qualifier Luke Sheridan.

  11. I'm not sure who it is but they aren't very good at all. There are even kids from the same school ranked at the same weight class. Everyone wants to jump in and put together rankings but they forget that a lot of work is done to ensure the rankings are as accurate and unbiased as possible. http://www.IndianaMat.com/news_article/show/418491?referrer_id=1093202
  12. Good luck to Kyle in his collegiate academic and wrestling career. I look forward to watching him compete.
