Does anyone else see the irony?  ;D

Considering that his wrestler was wrestling against a kid in that match up?  Had McMurray wrestled in this event, and McCray wrestled the small school side of the meet, wouldn't you guess that Joe's attention might have been more to that side of the meet?

I went to this match for the first time and it was a great event.  My son and I were talking on the way home and we thought it would be cool to see how IN champs (not just seniors) stacked up against the individual class champs in IL.  I think IN champs would win 10 or 11 matches against the IL 1A champs.  I thinks IN would win 8 or 9 matches against IL 2A champs and I think IN would win 4 or 5 matches against IL 3A champs.  Totally hypothetical but good discussion for entertainment purposes until my son fell asleep half way home!

Indiana usually wins the small school A Division matches.  That's because Illinois is limited (obviously) to the smaller schools while Indiana puts up their next highest placer (a single-class state runnerup sometimes) from a single-class state meet.

What Illinois has done here is screw their big school next highest placer (big class) in favor of the small school class champ.  To recap, Illinois big school division beats Indiana single class champs fair and square but higher quality Indiana placers win against Illinois smaller school division against kids who may or may not deserve to be there, while other Illinois kids get left home.  Law of unintended consequences.

Just say no to class wrestling!

Not so sure you're entirely correct.  I think in a perfect world, what you describe would be accurate but I don't think many deserving kids got left home on the IL side.  I was speaking with an IL dad and he said some of the senior champs and high placers in AAA didn't sign up so it seems like most (if not all) kids who deserved and wanted to go were there.  From IN, Brandon Wright wasn't there either so it happens all over.  To me it kind of seemed like a glorified JV match from the perspective that A, AA and AAA kids from IL were on both mats.  Logan Randle beat a AAA 4th placer on the small school mat and Frank Porras lost to a Class A champ on the bigh school mat.  I say JV match because it seemed like the coaches got together and really tried to put on a good display of wrestling (it certainly wasn't JV caliber wrestling!).  That could be wrong on my part, it just seemed that way

You also must realize data either way in this meet must take into effect that this is an offseason and relaxed meet.  Weigh-ins were liberal and most kids did not train as hard for this as they would Fargo or their respective state finals.
