Barrq
My wife and I took a bike ride from the big Prairie Heights country to Bellmont country last night and we ate at Arnolds a fifties restraunt. We were looking at all the High school pictures and they had baseball and basketball pictures but know wrestling. So now im wondering when did the Bellmont tradition start or does Arnolds just not like wrestling. Fill me in Bellmont people who was your first state champ and when was your first team champ and when did you guys start wrestling. Thanks Van and Jill Barroquillo
MattM
Bellmont has a decently extensive wrestling history but not sure how back it goes. They have won 3 team titles starting in the late 1980s. I know Coach Faurote won a individual titles in the early 1980s, so I would say they probably had some at least as far back as the 1970s. I believe they even have a historical guide of their history. Sad thing is wrestling (and other sports) just doesn't get the attention or draw the nostalga in most areas that baseball, basketball, and football do. MattM
Sad thing is wrestling (and other sports) just doesn't get the attention or draw the nostalga in most areas that baseball, basketball, and football do. See Delta! Its a very sad thing... We couldn't even have our own wrestling room. We had to practice upstairs and then roll the mats up every time there was a basketball game... Pretty Lame Unfortunately some of the more historic programs in the state had and some still do have the same problem. Guess the state of the art room isn't the biggest part of making a champion.
