  1. "Time Servies" 1987 from Wabash College should say "Tim Servies" And he is from Crawfordsville H.S.
  2. "We need something to change. These programs are stale, and they're going nowhere and have gone nowhere for the last 22 years each." Maybe this should read...."We need to change something". If Indiana talent overall is below par with the powerhouse states, we surely can't blame college coaches. Proven talent via national tournaments is lacking in Indiana. There are the elite few, but as an exception, not a rule. Grow the sport from the ground up and provide Purdue and IU ripe fruit for picking!!!
  3. Rather than complain about our in-state programs, we as coaches need to give our support on the ground level to them. Attend their camps, join their clubs, take a vested interest in the program. I have seen good kids choose our in-state colleges because of these relationships. They owe us nothing, coaches and kids need to be invested in Purdue and IU programs if they expect something in return. Mike Atwood of Delphi is a great example. He supports BoilerElite for his kids. Delphi always has a strong program because of it, and he has two Delphi grads on Purdue's starting lineup.
  4. "115 pound weight class will be coming soon and he is very excited about that!!!" He would be a monster at 115! And still not have to cut weight!!! I also know several others that would benefit from a 115 class.
  5. AAAHHH...The old meat grinder is coming!!!! :o
  6. Hey!! Hope all is well with you, Andre, and the family. Daniel is still in Okinawa Japan and occasionally wrestles in open freestyle tournaments over there. He's won them all so far. He'll be back in the states (Cherry Point, NC) starting this summer.
  7. That right!!! I nearly forgot about seeing Vision Quest that week!!! I'm pretty sure everyone was pumped up from watching it that week.
  8. With the weather flexing it's muscles this year, I'm hoping it doesn't interfere with the state tournament schedule. As those of us who wrestled in the 1985 State finals know, that was a fiasco. No placement matches, a one day tournament, a different venue. Just a heads up to the tournament directors and coaches to have a contingency plan for a full tournament so the kids won't be shorted the glory they worked so hard for!
  9. 220 1. Gelen Robinson Lake Central 2. Seth Meyers Lafayette Harrison. Woods over Meyer all day 3. Kobe woods Penn Meyer beat Woods on his way to the SS finals last year. But by "all day" maybe you have a day other than semi-state in mind?
  10. This entire topic is a WIN WIN for the state of Indiana wrestling!!! When you are arguing which of the nation's best wrestlers will win a match, and they are battling locally...we all win!!! Keep them coming guys!!! Now if we can keep them in Indiana for college we'll be even better! Dang Northwestern is loading up!
  11. I'm going to give a biased opinion...Harrison freshmen will step up to give them the push they need to fill any holes left by graduating seniors or other empty weight classes. TL does have a good middle school program also, but like I said...I'm biased!!!
  12. Congratulations! My son told me about it. Way to represent! btw...Navy or Marines?
  13. Very unfortunate. He was a very hard worker and gained the respect of other wrestlers and coaches.
  14. The global economy has changed as we are no longer the super power economically that we once were. Money talks, and we don't have any! Other countries are advancing while we decline. And their voice has begun to carry some weight. Unfortunately, the "lobbying" aka "bribery" has cost us wrestling.
  15. Whitey is surprisingly tough! He doesn't look like a typical BigTen hvy...def not like Chalfant! But after a few years of receiving beatings from Erickson, he knows how to hang with the big boys!!!
  16. Considering these rankings were finalized prior to sectionals, I'd say they were VERY accurate! Nice work! Thanks!
  17. And I do believe Harrison placed 10th in team points out of the 76 teams represented.
  18. I don't particularly like when people bash others here....Wrestlingfan182 loves wrestling more than most...and I am certain he is well recognized in the wrestling community by the kids especially. He has always been supportive of other wrestlers, even the ones his son competed against! Enough said! Merrillville semi state needs to rule state!
  19. They have several tournaments I believe. I'm not sure Daniel is competing in those this year, as he has been training for his black belt in MCMAP and also started jiu jitsu. ;D
  20. If you have the opportunity to attend any clinics or clubs in Illinois, that would be the best option. By far the best greco state. Proven every year at nationals. Greco has always been my favorite style. I always had fun with pummeling and throwing. And it made my folkstyle wrestling much better. Indiana is a very weak greco state as we have less and less meets available and very little success nationally, other than a very few individuals. So if greco is your thing, look west a few miles!!!
  21. USMC Lcpl Daniel Campbell (WL Harrison) won the 84 kg freestyle division of the Camp Kinser Semper Fit open wrestling tournament in Okinawa Japan. In each of his 5 matches he sported his "Boiler Elite" singlet. Way to represent! ;D ;D ;D
  22. Great up and coming program! And my grad school alma mater!
  23. Baumgartner was one of the greatest heavyweights, but as a wee lad I saw him get whooped in the 1983 World Cup by some Russian guy named Salman Khasimikov. I thought Baumgartner was invincible...lesson learned that day! What was more amazing was the match Khasimikov had against the African HWT...where he threw him off the platform onto the press photographers. Baumgartner went on to become that same caliber, if not better, of a wrestler. Maybe that match taught him a valuable lesson as well!!! http://www.flowrestling.org/video/643747-Salman-Khasimikov-v-Bruce-Baumgartner-1983-World-Cup
  24. Purdue needed a top quality HWT prospect like Kral. It's been a long time since they've had competitive HWTs. Tyler will fill out and become AA material quickly!
