  1. Thanks to the Center Grove Club for doing such a great job with this tournament yesterday. I took some little guys down there and we had a great time and they got some good experience. Referees were awesome...great job reffing/coaching these younger guys on the mat.
  2. This sounds awesome. I would have loved to compete in something like this in my "prime". Actually, come to think of it, I still would. I think I have 1 good headlock left in the arsenal...is there a washed up/out of shape/geriatric division?
  3. Congrats to Cottey...tough kid and fun to watch. I have no doubt he and Cody can be successful college wrestlers. Good Luck to both.
  4. Congrats to Jolley-Little. Awesome achievment. Hvywt is gonna be stacked next year with Jolley Little, Robinson, Bernard, Merrillville Heavy, HH heavy among others!
  5. Congratulations on AA status and Good Luck to Brenden today.
  6. I dont believe there are any "lower level guys" in this tourney (the lower level guys (e.g.- us) are busy posting on Indianamat) However, I do get your point but I think it adds some excitement with a grand finale...assuming it happens.
  7. Big Bob- No crying here...I have had my share of losses on the wrestling mat and football field and blame no one but myself (although my teams record was 0-0 Vs Cathedral football as we unfortunately didn't play them). If you look back on this topic I first responded because tkdwn 2 stated "Catholic schools recruit". I always get annoyed by this accusation (apparently you do too) because it is unfair to the Catholic schools who never recruit. There are a few schools in Indiana who have recruited in the past (as I already said I have plenty of first hand accounts) and it gives the Mater Deis, Roncallis, Chatards, Ritters, Scecinas of the Catholic School world a bad name. Also, I should clarify that I am not speaking about anyone currently on your team (I do not know anything about your team/kids) and my first hand accounts involve mostly past football and basketball players and few wrestlers. Again, I guess we agree to disagree so this will be my last "cry" session/post on the subject. On a lighter note-- Good luck to your son next year, he is an excellent wrestler. Just curious, will he wrestle or play football in college and is he getting any D1 offers yet?
  8. What parish are they from? Are they eligigble to wrestle CYO? You my be right from a competition perspective although many kids do CYO and ISWA/USA
  9. Haven't payed much attention to them between the years of 1973 and 2010 then. I have plenty of first hand accounts so you will never convince me otherwise...I guess we agree to disagree on the matter.
  10. Big Bob- First of all I don't believe anyone mentioned anything about your situation although I may have missed it. It sounds like it was the right choice for you and your son ( who btw seems like a class act in the several meets I have watched him). What I am mostly referring to precedes your very short 2.5 years (roughly) that you have been involved with Cathedral and is not limited to wrestling.
  11. Can you honestly say that recruiting does not ever happen at the HS level in Indiana? side note- I am not talking about open enrollment. I am also not talking about Catholic kids who choose to go to an excellent Catholic school (such as Cathedral) that offers many great experiences (faith, academic, and athletic)
  12. Fabio- I dont think you read/understood my post...oh well. FYI- I am not a coach so you don't need to waste your time keeping tabs on my move-ins. I do maintain that IF I were coaching I would rather lose with my kids than win with recruits.
  13. tkdwn 2 -I share your disdain for the way one particular Catholic school in Indy (and most of the Catholic schools in FW I hear) go about finding their athletes, but you can't lump all of the Catholic schools together as "recruiters". (I know Roncalli never recruited while I was involved as an athlete/coach because all of their kids were Catholic kids from the south deanery feeder schools.) You also must admit that Warren Central/BD Football as well as LN basketball benefitted from some nice move-ins however I believe it is a moot point now that we have open enrollment, right? Let me finish by saying that if I still coached I would rather lose with my own kids from my feeder school/hometown kids than win with "move-ins".
  14. Congratulations Greyhounds! Good Luck in Birmingham.
  15. I think Walker needed a couple more seconds to (possibly) secure the TD...sweet firemans though.
  16. Thank you very much to whoever removed the offensive posts on this topic!
  17. That is interesting Scholar. I know of several guys from (Pope John) Roncalli High School that have wrestled girls over the years...never heard any official statements from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis on the issue though.
  18. He could definitely make a run at the title. He was impressive at semi state and is a very smooth wrestler.
  19. I agree. Newport was soooo close to scoring on Mauer in OT but obviously Mauer never gave it up. Amazing match.
  20. Congrats to Josh....it was worth the price of admission at regionals just to watch him wrestle. Good Luck at Purdue.
  21. Copy and Paste from my reply on same subject 3 years ago... A couple more great "ticket round" matches that took place at the Semi-state formerly known as Seymour were; #1Greg Weade (Memorial) vs. Andy Wilson (Monrovia)...Wilson Wins and #1 Bo Henry (Bloomington North) vs. Mark Koers (Roncalli)...Koers wins...loved watching Koers (aka "bulldog")
  22. Hilarious. You got my vote for Post of the Month...maybe year.
