  1. True. But it is a bit of a big deal when a #29 ranked beats a #9 ranked. Your choice of stating the seedings, instead of the rankings, makes it look like you are attempting to minimize Welch's accomplishment. I thought it was a nice accomplishment and would not be doing anything other than acknowledging and supporting our IN kid's accomplishments against kids from other states.
  2. Yes, I admit it. Grammar mistakes jump out at me. And I find lots if grammar nuances entertaining and often thought provoking. And I get a kick out if seeing how my kid's generation is altering our language. So instead of judging me, or my intentions, maybe just assume the best case. Or at least not judge me and post a cartoon about judging people. Lol. I see the irony in that, and found that entertaining too. And this post, and the one with the typo, were from my lame cell phone keyboard, so all in all, I think the typing wasn't too bad. Lol. Cheers!
  3. Hi Robert. Great to have you offer to do this. And my "prolly" comment was in jest. And I do have a question for the coach. Given that there is pressure to recruit Indiana talent, and pressure to put together the very best possible team, what us your approach to finding the right balance? Looking forward to downloading your future podcasts!!! And good luck in your classes at IU.
  4. You are a sportscom major at IU and use the word "prolly?" Wow.........
  5. I'm sure you already know this, so this is just a reminder that a cliche is "a trite or overused expression." This is definitely over used. I hear it at every wrestling meet, usually several times. And, even if the kid does look bigger than the other 120 kid, he's FAR from huge. He is still a ~120 pound kid. Bob Sapp was huge!
  6. The absolute worst has to be "He's HUGE!" a kid weighing 132 is not "HUGE." A kid weighing 152 is not any more huge than another kid at 152, otherwise he would be in a much higher weight class. I get it that some kids look much more muscular than others, but let's drop "huge" from our vocabulary when describing a wrestler. This is especially ridiculous at the lower weights.
  7. Very cool! Always great to see guys willing to test themselves and find out what they got. When's your next fight? Signed with UFC yet?
  8. Gotta give you a yoohoo for that! Oops. I meant a wahoo. See what happens to you if you watch that whole video??? That was so sad, yet so funny.
  9. Gotta love the part "ice bath from the neck up because their whole body is mashed up" Guess their bodies are used to it, but their heads need an ice bath! Trying to picture one of them with their head in the ice bath! lol
  10. IMO Mullins will handle Richey without too much trouble. Watching them both wrestle last year, that's the way I would call it. Have not seen Mullins this year, but even if he is only a little better than last year I think he beats Richey without too much trouble.
  11. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like he exemplified many of the things that champions are made of.
  12. According to Clinch Gear http://news.theopenmat.com/2011/04/clinch-gear-national-individual-high-school-wrestling-rankings-final-2010-11 new rankings. Four ranked, or HM, from IN at 112. Chad Welch @ #20 in 152 Doug Welch still not listed, even though he recently beat the #8 (now #9) ranked 152 from IL at the IN-IL dual at Wabash College recently, and last weekend lost 4-3 to the #2 ranked 145 from NJ (Doug subsequently went on to place 8th, Injury Default, at Senior Nationals). Interesting to see Stevenson and Sliga ranked 7 and 8 with our state champ not ranked.
  13. Running the score up is not necessary, IF you are confident that you can keep the other person from scoring and that is your strategic decision. I saw a coupl eof kids do that a lot this year as part of their strategy. However, I doubt that Howe's game plan was to let two matches go into OT. If he could have won without going into OT then it seems obvious that he would have. I took 1oldwrestler's comment to suggest that as the evidence that Howe is not 100%. Along with the fact that a getting back into top shape after a fairly serious hamstring injury takes a while to get back to 100%. I suspect he is glad to have a few more days to recover and will be better each week moving ahead.
  14. LOL. Based on your previous statements, I somehow thought you would say that!!!
  15. Not quite sure how you would have a "different winner every time," with 10 matches and only 3 wrestlers. Or did you mean that none of them could win two times in a row? But I think I understand your point of there not being a dominant winner in a best of 10. Maybe a winning 3-3-4 split amongst them. Which one would get the 4 wins???
  16. Welch brothers. Nothing more historic than that happened this year.
  17. Sometimes we lose perspective. I'm proud of any of the kids who make the varsity team as a wrestler. Even if there is not a full team, and anybody who goes out gets to be varsity, I still salute those kids too. Because every week they go out in front of their friends, family, and the other wrestlers and do thei rthing on the mat. Whether they are victorious, or wrestled hard and came up short, I have a great deal of respect for those kids and hope they do not lose sight of what they have accomplished. And that varsity wrestling letter is the hardest letter they will ever get. Congratulations to every kid who wrestled this year, varsity or JV. You earned some respect.
  18. I didn't give you any boo's, but I suspect I know why you got at least a few boo's. Most everyone tries to stay very positive about the kids and wrestling programs here on indianamat.com. When you posed the question asking people to make negative comments you sort of broke the unofficial code of what is cool and what's not cool. As a relative newcomer, I cut you some slack and thought I'd try to help you here, rather than bash you (see.... trying to stay positive!). I hope you keep posting. The more viewpoints we get the better it makes the web site for all of us.
  19. Easy kiddo. The security forces at Conseco are probably already scanning this web site to discover our secrets for getting food or drinks in. They are pretty rigorous in their compliance with the no food/drink rule. Heck, they won't even let you keep the caps from the bottled drinks they sell. Supposedly so we don't throw bottles full of fluid at each other. I guess that must be a basketball fan thing. I heard they are bringing in some full body scanners from the TSA that we will all have to go through. They have a side room for more extensive pat downs and body cavity searches. I know one guy is going to be there especially early so he can get the full service pat down and cavity search. I think that costs extra though. :-*
  20. Amen! You are quite welcome.
  21. Go to the post you want to quote/highlight and in the upper right hand corner of that post you will see "quote". Click that and it opens up a reply box with the to-be-quoted post already entered and the appropriate controls which highlights the text from the post. Enter your response at the bottom of the reply box that was opened up for you.
  22. Or, to be a bit more obscure, it could be: 152 Welch/Connor 160 Welch/Conner Of course that would be Mullins and Lefever, respectively. There are so many good possible matchups.....
  23. Some of the best matches will not be the finals. My favorite match last year was in the semi-finals.
  24. LOL. Or, wrestler "E" who is a beast, or, wrestler "F" who is huge. I always crack up at those comments where people are trying to convince us that a 103 pounder is huge, a beast, or a stud. Not that the 103 guy (or girl) can't be a really good wrestler, but seriously......
