  2. Wrestle-backs are trying to get to the "perfect" orderly finish. Our current system is definitely imperfect. Yes, there is a bit of luck involved on what draw you get I am ok without wrestle-backs. I understand that it would likely reduce the amount of "surprises" in the state placers. It would also add more time to the tournament (I think 11 more matches per weight class - 31 vs 20?) and even where there are wrestle-backs in place, cross-bracketing still has to occur and there could remain unfortunate draws in that scenario. At this time, I think the IHSAA individual wrestling tournament is one of the great tournaments across the country (for wrestling fans at least) and I would like to maintain the status quo
  3. I think we have a great compromise. Team state tournament can help the small schools recruit from the hallways. Individual state tournament is imperfect, but beautiful
  4. Decline in participation has been driven (in my opinion) to more athletes focusing on a single sport, and offseason workouts for that sport. Also I think there are more non-sport activities and clubs available to students now. And, the wildcard - those dang video game consoles. Kids live on them many evenings and it has definitely been a motivator for not accepting the time involvement associated with school sports.
  5. That really stinks for Vince McDonald - he is "upgraded" to the #2 placer from Frankfort .... and moves from a bracket of 4 where he was favored (by rankings) to a different bracket of 4 with Aiden Warren in it
  6. So in theory if I have fast internet I can get all the mats in every semistate up on the big screen this weekend! My wife may kill me
  7. Most devices can be connected to TV via a HDMI cord (iPhone needs a "dongle" that goes to HDMI output). As far as casting 2 different mats - that would be wonderful but I believe trackwrestling has it setup where you can only view one video stream per logon unfortunately. I am hoping that the State broadcast can somehow use a splitter to create one video feed that shows all 4 mats simultaneously
  8. Final result is incredible! Thanks Joe it's like Christmas in February!
  9. That is a great story - Sarah sounds like a real role model for young kids looking for a sport or somewhere to fit in
  10. Love the look and all the information Joe. I do have one wish list item The rankings are great - however as the tournament goes on there are upsets. I would like to propose you shorten the grade level to a number after the school. In addition, after the grade number, I'd love to have a 2-letter code for the Regional (or Semi-state for state brackets) that they came out of along with their placement. This would let me see who was a regional champ vs 2nd/3rd and also easily reference the other quarter brackets to see how they placed 1-4 at the incoming tournament For example the first entry at 106 reads #10/NR Nova Tuttle(14-1) Crown Point(Senior) I'd like something like this: #10/NR Nova Tuttle(14-1) Crown Point (12) CP1 Telling me that he was 1st place at Crown Point regional. I could find CP2 and know that he had gotten beat by Tuttle in regional. Especially for the State brackets, I am not sure where a lot of the non-frequent qualifier schools are located and it would be great to see that NC3 or FW1 to put it all together. Thanks for all your hard work
  11. That was a great writeup and analysis thanks Tyson and good luck in school!
  12. Without knowing all the background and discussions.. Accepting transfers while at the same time denying a young man and his family from transferring away from your school seems very bush-league. You may hate it in the short term as a coach, but in the end you can never feel too bad letting a young man participate in a sport and your reputation will be better in the long run
  13. It’s a legitimate concern for a school (any school) to recruit and displace a student that has come up through the area and program. Maybe a little leeway with the COVID restrictions in other states. I don’t know what you are referring to specifically, but if a school is accepting transfers and also calling out another school, then that is an issue. Not sure if that is what you were claiming
  14. Twin Lakes, Warren Central, Jeffersonville - all of them made the same mistake. The seeding TPS report must not have been routed very well (again)!
  15. Joe, am I correct in saying that the blind draws should go into the 7th/8th place brackets? That would make perfect sense, and be great. However, doesn't appear to be the case, as you can see at 145 at the Oak Hill sectional. A sophomore with a 1-14 record draws a first round bye, while a 4-4 senior draws into a rat-tail match and will likely be sent home. I hate to see it - would like those non-seeded kids (especially seniors) to get a better chance to get to wrestlebacks and earn a trip to Regionals. In the same bracket, another young man has a rat-tail round against the 1st seed - so he will get no chance for wrestleback
  16. I paid for the track wrestling feed to a conference tourney and it never worked. No video at all. Are there enough track-knowledgeable people out there to make this work?
  17. So for sectional, will each school be able to record and livestream their own kids, or will the host site be streaming all 3 or 4 mats?
  18. Sectional and Regional sites should really figure out a way to livestream matches - even more so if parents cannot attend. These kids have worked their last 4 years for a shot. I know we mostly focus on the high-end, often year-round wrestlers - but with today's technology and all the videos you can see every day on facebook or youtube, you can't tell me that a high school can't figure out how to put up 3 or maybe 4 livestreams. Let's put the kids and their families before the money. Free livestreams will let grandma and grandpa watch Junior wrestle his senior year
  19. Great start for Purdue. IU has been getting a lot of the big name Indiana kids, but these Purdue wrestlers are doing well at the college level! Two thumbs up for the job Ersland is doing
  20. As long as the commentary stays away from class wrestling, solid yes Really though - Mike and you or some of the other rankers would be the best commentator for such a format with all of the knowledge of prior matchups and history. I think it would be really entertaining @trackgopher just how much is a video splitter? $1000+ ?? Can the County squad pay for it in Bananas?
  21. Ok - a consolation prize would be something like a "Red Zone" channel for NFL. Have a single announcer that is able to bounce back and forth to video from one of the 4 matches, and add their own commentary. It would be tricky, but if there was a separate table setup for the Red Zone announcer and another person choosing the mat feed, I think it could work even if it were a bit delayed from the individual mat feeds. Sure you might miss some of the action as it happens, but they could bounce between the matches that are close in score, or between highly ranked opponents. I'd love to keep that on primarily, and switch over to a single mat feed if I had a particular match that I didn't want to miss a second of...
  22. For this year, I think it would be great if they could figure out a reasonable number of assigned seats for family and friends. Since so many will be watching remote this year I would like to suggest these improvements to TrackWrestling or whatever group is responsible for the broadcast of the rounds leading up to the finals Ability to choose from 5 different video streams. One of each mat, and one that has video of all 4 mats simultaneously so you don't miss any of the action On the video stream that continuously shows 4 mats, a button or other mechanism to choose audio from any one of the 4 mats. So the 4-mat video stream just keeps on running and viewer can easily switch audio at will Incorporate the IndianaMat individual rankings into the broadcast - would be much more interesting to the casual fan to visually see where the wrestlers are ranked and if there is an "upset" - Could also include one other video stream that shows a random fan purchasing and eating a shaved ice
  23. What a quick drive from NW Indiana to West Lafayette! The whole extended friends and family could attend every home meet! What are we waiting for?! Boiler UP!
