  1. There are two types of cards for USA wrestling. There is the white coaches card (usa membership) and there is the copper, bronze, silver and gold cerfitication cards. From the site, it says you need to be a current member. I would assume you need to get the white card. I think that is only done online like the wrestling membership. The white coaches card is almost equivalent to the athlete membership. This is from http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Membership/Membership-Levels
  2. For some reason I thought at the ISWA annual meeting, that Greco will not require 2 tournaments. I don't remember if a greco participation would be acceptable for freestyle or not. I just remember them saying to qualify for Freestyle state a wrestler will need to participate in two freestyle tournaments.
  3. You guys certainly have a very solid program that most look up to. All the hard work by your coaches and parents make it the cornerstone program in central and all of Indiana. I think I can say that most programs would love to be where you and your staff have built your program up to. I know our CPMS Warriors gave them a run (up until 135 lb class) this year, but man the lineup PMMS brings every year is pretty solid. I was surprised we were able to score anything close to 30 on them. Congrats on another successful year guys.
  4. I see both sides here. ISWA is trying to build a stronger base at the local tournament level which would hopefully help more kids get in more freestyle matches before the state finals. Hopefully this would improve some of the overall depth of freestyle in Indiana. Plus they're trying to keep kids local and the money involved at the local clubs, instead of the giant tournament and money makers. I see why some people oppose as they want better competition else where. It's more and better competition at the bigger tournaments. As a smaller club, I see no problem with it, as it will get our guys our wrestling more local tournaments, when they probably wouldn't have to begin with. We only have a couple that go to the big tournaments, but they'll find a way to get in 2 tournaments if they need to.
  5. Deven is only a 7th grader right now and one more year to go at Clark Pleasant. He still has another year until he joins the HS ranks.
  6. While our guys might not be studs but Whiteland should have a couple decent freshman next year. Couple of them were middle school placers.
  7. I know the background check that I had through the USA wrestling system, just took a couple days. I would go ahead and do it, since you'll need it for your copper card anyway. From the copper card page on USA Wrestling: Prerequisites: Participants must be a current member of USA Wrestling and must have a successful background check completed before attending the clinic. Please allow 7-10 days for background checks to be completed before attending a certification course.
  8. I think knowing the fact that you have a secured seat and can get there 5 minutes before start time would be nice. Trying to find a set of seats for a group of 10, you can't get there 15 minutes before time. You'd have to have someone there early, stand in the crowd and try to find and hold off for a group thats equal to a suite. The lower level suites would be nice to have though.
  9. Well he's continuing to wrestle and get back at after taking 3rd. Looking at Indy National brackets, he's signed up and ready to wrestle today.
  10. Not sure who he is, but he's been there at the Mooresville Regional, Evansville Semi-State and could hear him last night yelling. He's got a set of lungs to keep up the "lets go BD" chant. He's not phased by the clapping. He'll keep it going for what seems like 10 minutes straight.
  11. I've watched some of his matches over the past couple of years. I knew he would do well at state, but to the extent of dominating is pretty impressive for a freshman of his age. Obviously every match is tough but this should be a good one here in the semi's.
  12. Thanks, that's the way I thought they did it but wasn't sure if they were going to stick with that format or if the IHSAA wanted to throw us for a loop or two.
  13. Speaking of brackets, since they don't have mat assignments listed, are they keeping the top two matches in each bracket on mat 1, 2nd set of 2 on mat 2, and so on? Or will they just be loading in a queue and first available to speed things along? I've got some parents that won't be able to make it and just trying to give them a heads up on which mat our wrestler will be on so they can watch on trackwrestling.
  14. C'mon that's it? Only 172 right? With today's technology, you should be able to predict all 224 without a mishap. I'd say that's pretty dang good, considering what In The Bleachers just said. If they didn't have to wrestle so early, then he could probably would have predicted even more. Nice work Mike.
  15. I would say Stevenson might be a long shot with that knee injury that occurred on Saturday. I don't know the exact injury but he was down and in some pain. I would imagine his chances are much lower now, but he's tough kid after watching him all year. If he pulls off a state championship this weekend, it will certainly be one showing his toughness, pain tolerance and will to win. I'll be rooting for him to pull it off and take a 2nd title.
  16. I thought it was a good tournament. A lot of good wrestling on the day. Glad to see some smaller schools start bringing out more wrestlers. A good experience for them. - Weigh-in situation, it always happens. Someone will find a way to complain about anything. It doesn't bother me, as anyone who has hosted weigh-ins knows things happen and people complain. One of my wrestlers got a valuable learning experience. I don't know if I'd call it valuable, but he got a $35 education really quick after that mishap. He went to weigh-in without talking to me first and without checking his weight. He missed by .1 and couldn't wrestle. He'll get over it and hopefully he'll never let it happen again. -Team scoring, maybe the IHSWCA can set a class system up like ISWA. Large team vs small team and only count the highest place from each school in each weight? But that could hurt a team with 3 really good kids on 1 weight class. Is there a better way to score for teams, yes, but do I have time to sit down and propose it, no. Maybe just let trackwrestling handle scoring, and remove academy teams from that list at the end? Maybe the IHSWCA will ask input on how to score it from coaches to get a better perspective for future scoring. - As for registration, I don't think it really mattered to much. What difference is there leaving it open from Thursday night to Saturday night? IHSWCA made a few more dollars, and it's not like they set brackets up and messed them up for not closing early. They built them upon weigh-ins. I know some parents will wait until last minute to see where Johnny Champ is signed up and try to dodge him, but with a tournament of this caliber it's going to be a tough bracket no matter what. - And as for seeding, trackwrestling can't be used anymore as it allows parents to clear there wrestlers history now. Some parents have cleared them and what's to say a former 5x ISWA state champ clears theirs and last years IHSWCA champ didn't? They could still get paired up first round. No good way to set brackets by seeding middle school wrestlers with little known history. I'm good with blind draw, let the best wrestler prevail. Only complaint I have, similar to Rex's complaint, I just wish people would be a little more considerate of themselves and the school providing the tournament. How hard is it to do a little cleaning up after themselves? This saves the time of many others that have already worked hard during the day. They don't want to clean up after you when they've been running the tournament for you and your children to wrestle at all day already. Please be kind of enough to take 4 minutes and clean it up. Thanks for another great tournament IHSWCA.
  17. As for wrestling, I am still busting my butt to try and get more of the Whiteland Community on board. Most of the community thinks they're a football power house, but I beg to differ and the basketball program is awful. When it comes to wrestling, we tend to have the feeling of a small community. We don't get a big number of wrestlers coming out for the school of our size(except for middle school). There are the pros and cons of this obviously, but it makes it easier for me since I don't get much help in the wrestling room. I've been trying for years to get some dads on board or even trying to find someone else like me(no children of my own in the room) to help out just because I love the sport and want to see kids develop from it. You get those kids that are dedicated at those small schools, they can certainly hold their own when it comes to wrestling.
  18. The Todrank and Lee match could have had a little better officiating. Once a wrestling is on top of their head and completely straight up and down, the match should be stopped immediately. Lee seems to be a pretty aggressive wrestler and I don't think he did it with any harm. He came down quick with that and Todranks neck rolled up and looked like a WWE move for a second or two. The ref should have stopped it a few seconds before that even happened, but hopefully the refs learn from that mistake. I don't think there was really anything Todrank could do to keep the match close as Lee was pretty dominating. Todrank does have quite a bit of energy and after the match lets just say he wasn't too pleased with the MD crowd. Being my first time down to the Evansville Semi-State, I was rather impressed. The wrestling was good, even though I missed the upset of the day with Bethel getting the W over B. Lee. A lot of good matches that went back and forth. Elmore and Bassmeir was a good one to watch . Avon was impressive as well as the amount of Jennings County wrestlers in attendance. MD is solid as usual. The venue was awesome; as the seats are much more comfortable then the bleachers are New Castle. It was tough watching the 170 lb final with Stevenson going down in the middle of a good match. Us from Whiteland hope all the best for him and a speedy recovery.
  19. If that is true, then it's extremely unfortunate for others. We had one wrestler, who is inexperience with it being his second year, not quite sure on the rulings etc. He showed up and weighed in. He never checked in with me to set him on our scale, and he ended up missing weight by .1 of a pound and challenged all scales with .1 being the lowest. They scratched him from the tournament and was unable to compete. He most likely wasn't going to do a whole lot in the tournament, but it would have been some good mat time and a learning experience(on the mat, not weight management). If they allowed one wrestler .1 allowance over the 2 already given then that's pretty sad even if he was a good wrestler. Maybe a proposal would be if a wrestler misses weight, they can pay an extra $35 to bump up and IHSWCA can still profit even more from it. Trackwrestling allows a wrestler to me moved over to a new class pretty easy and will rebuild a bracket for you once you change the wrestlers weight.
  20. Not good starting the match off with a caution already.
  21. Yea, the school seasons vary quite a bit and trying to get many to sign up for one and then to continue from a section to regionals would be pretty difficult for those that would have to travel a great distance. I think this tournament is pretty good preparation for the next level. After the first few rounds when the lesser competition is weeded out, the strong contenders really make it a difficult day. Once you get to placing, they have a pretty good chance of doing well in high school level.
  22. I checked it today too and realized it is still open and the registration count is still growing. I don't think I've seen a bracket break the 64 man mark here, but if registration stays open until Saturday, the 105-125 brackets could get up there. Should make for a fun day of wrestling though.
  23. Will be my first time heading down there. Is there a parking lot adjacent? If not, where is a good spot to park? And any good local joints to eat at after the day is over?
  24. Do you guys typically get a variety of age groups and sizes or does it lean towards one particular area? I'm going to forward this over to our wrestlers and see if any are interested in getting some mat time before Middle school state.
  25. I was looking this up on trackwrestling and it shows the deadline as 2/14/15. You might want to update trackwreslting so it coincides with what your saying here on the board, as some not on here, won't get that info and wait til Friday or Saturday to sign up with the deadline shown. If they wait, they won't sign up in time and could hurt your #'s some. 2015 IHSWCA Middle School State 02/14/2015 08:00 p.m. C.S.T.
