  1. From my understanding the student would have to be a student at a participating IHSAA school. So unless the homeschool student is at least taking some classes at a member HS it would not currently be allowed. I'm not sure what the actual % of classes has to be though, that maybe a individual school decision.
  2. i.e. a "Private Lesson" with an outside academy coach would be fine, but attending a regular academy practice with other schools wrestlers would not be. Most Academy/Club coaches should be aware of this and hopefully steering wrestlers clear of any rules violation.
  3. I know a 138lber currently in the Pennsylvania area named Lee that Fix could face if he'd wrestle up a weight.
  4. Post tournament interview with Riley. Nice to see him give props to his teammates and credit to others. Nice humble interview for such an accomplishment. http://s200.trackwrestling.com/tw/PortalPlayer.jsp?TIM=1489335104985&twSessionId=ikcqywikmulviml&videoId=367505076
  5. If Lee indeed hasn't really practiced for the last month I would think Desanto's gas tank would be a great asset to him in the match. He seemed to have a great game plan for attacking Lee and keeping him at bay which allows for the chance to win at the end. From what I've read he was just running through kids all weekend.
  6. The Mat side clock was at 0 in the middle of the scramble. So I'd say no takedown. But without a replay that a rough on for the refs to call.
  7. With a pin in the finals Lefever becomes only the 2nd 4x DIII Nationals Champion. Nice career young man.
  8. Oh my. I just had a long conversation with him in between sessions during Big10s last weekend. He got a chuckle out of the fact he got to relax in the other side of the whistle for once. He was always a great guy to talk to, asking about how my schools program was going, sharing stories about his own travels, and genuinely wanting to know about how things were going with life. I'm not sure there is another ref I looked forward to speaking with during HS or USA competitions more than Tom. He will really be missed.
  9. Greatest poet wrestler since Leapin Lanny Paffo.
  10. Murphy from Michigan had to withdraw due to injury. This has caused the addition Delande from Edinboro and a reshuffling of the 157 bracket. The unfortunate side effect of this change has led to a tougher road for Jake Danishek of IU who will now faces 2nd seed Kemmer of Iowa. The same issue also will move Griffin from Purdue into the path of 5th seed Smith of Ok State.
  11. I really like the Top 5 Jayruss put out. But like most top lists we try to make, the order is really a judgement call based on the way you look at their resume. Indiana HS season accomplishments vs. career accomplishments (including college and national events) vs. future potential (in the Lee's cases)
  12. Glad to know I'm not the only one with that thought process.
  13. I'm not sure you can say they are taking the chance to compete in this tournament away from Brayton. If he, or anyone else, was offered a chance to be on the team and choose not to take it due to his personal feeling (wanting to be with teammates in this case) then he is taking the opportunity away from himself. Or for that matter if the wrestler was given the impression by someone that they shouldn't take the opportunity for some reason. As a coach I would try to encourage him, or anyone else, to take advantage of the opportunity if it would help the wrestlers in some way. But, in the end it would still be up the person that put themselves in a position to be offered the spot in the first place. Sure, the other 4-wrestlers you cite maybe a different story if they are not being given a chance. That could be something worth addressing, depending on what they want this event to actually be.
  14. I believe some coaches are also concerned with the possible loose fit of the garment which could lead to wrestlers grabbing the clothing during a match, the shirt riding up on the wrestlers creating a "belly shirt," and the possibility of figures getting wrapped up in the clothing during a match. I think these are somewhat valid concerns, but they can also easily be addressed by those designing the rules and garment. It really comes down to ensuring the shirt fits somewhat tight and is also long enough to stay tucked into the shorts. Then determining if fight shorts are worth trying (possibly clothing grab issue) or if compression pants must be used.
  15. An additional pain for Northwestern is the career ending injury that stud Bryce Brill had. He was one of the big name recruits that remained at the school after the Pariano fall out. Hopefully having a strong assistant coaching staff with Howe, Brewer, and Beebe will help improve their recruiting opportunities. I think Jason Welch may also be hanging around the area and possibly helping out a little too, I saw him out and about at Big10's.
  16. The way I see it you have two options: 1. Have an actual team sectional of some kind. Although that would mean fitting more meets into the end of the season. 2. Try to evenly distribute teams from each class into every sectional. Then take the highest point scoring team from each class, regardless of their overall sectional placement, as the team state class representative. Although, that may create some travel issues in some area's due to the amount of 1A or even 2A schools in certain parts of the state.
  17. What poor prior experience did those wrestlers have with another Indiana team or its coaches that has caused them to completely write off being on any team but yours?
  18. Nice to see a team from Georgia. Part of the state have really been developing over the last decades.
  19. What states are fielding teams this year? I'd be good with one or two team limits per state if the event would grow a sought after choice for top Sophomores/Juniors from Mid-west/Eastern wrestling states with more College coaches interested in attending. As it stands right now its are not attracting enough of the right states and competitors for this to be the event it could be.
  20. Yeah I made a thread about it a few weeks ago. If you keep looking through the footage (its actually through Zeb Miller's GOHIO Cast thats linked into Flo) you can find a few good interviews with Ruberg and another with his father.
  21. In the young talent department. Brunner had a decent showing for Purdue at Big10s. It, I'm really interested seeing how Parriot has/will developed over the next year or two. He redshirted this season, so no Big10 Results. But, he had a ton of potential and hopefully some solid practice partners to keep him working hard. On the IU side Danishek and Skatzka showed some solid wrestling at time over the weekend. They seem like they would be the most likely candidates to lead IUs future.
  22. As much as he may hate to do it I think Nickal has to wrestle different style than his usual when facing Martin.
  23. That would be the 1995 State Final at the short lived 100lb weight class. Greg Schaffer vs. David Combs (B. South). Schaffer won in OT.
  24. If you notice one of the wrist band the head ref always wears, has a box of some sort under it. And I believe that's the one they keep switching. Just speculating, but maybe its tied into the clock and may buzz when times up. Maybe something they are prototyping to see if it helps the officials with being aware of the time when they are in the middle of a judgement call.
