  1. Lesner by way of submission though he took some major lump before he got an opening. I have to give him credit for at least branching out to other moves. Sounds like his major illness and a little encouragment from the UFC helped him approach the post fight interview with a little more tact than at UFC 100.
  2. Now you are getting the seeding meetings confused with the hospitality room again.
  3. Had great seats just feet away from the cage sitting in a local establishment that had giant bay windows open that gave a center view of things. Kinser did looked impressive controlling the fight and opening up Overfield before finally getting the stoppage. Warren was lucky to survive first round on-slaught by Pitbull and was saved by the bell. After "coming out of his daze" he manage to control the next few round with takedowns and decent ground and pound. From what I could see Sclemenko in my opinion got the benifit of a slightly early stopage to win over Baker. I figured the fight would have stopped not to long after that unless Baker could have figured something out but it seemed a little premature. I will say in the womens fight they came to brawl. The highly touted Rosi Sexton decided to stand and trade with the Frausto and as a result caught a very nasty knee that put her out. For being 39 Hinton was a solid man with some decent skills and was impressed to see him fight the much younger 25 year old Stratus. All in all worth the trip though they have the tournament finals as the 3rd-4th fight of the evening to so it could make the TV time then showed most of the rest of the card. I figured they would have did most of those fights earlier and if TV time was short just edit in what fights they needed to in order to fill it. Guess that not how they do it in that organizations TV coverage though.
  4. With Moratorium next week and other dates coming up I felt this was worth pointing out for everyone. RULE 15-3.3 OPEN FACILITY PROGRAM AND CONDITIONING PROGRAM Operation of open facility programs must be terminated prior to Monday of Week 4 (July 26, 2010) for all sports. Open facility programs may begin again on the first day of school. A conditioning program may be extended through Saturday of Week 4 (July 31, 2010). These programs may begin again on the first day of school. RULE 15-3.4 MORATORIUM Each member school shall observe a moratorium starting on Monday of the week which includes July 4th (June 28 ? July 4, 2010). During this seven-day period, there shall be no contact between athletes and coaches, and no athletic activities, including conditioning, conducted. http://www.ihsaa.org/dnn/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=rBPPhV2eQ6o%3d&tabid=38
  5. He was an assistant but don't recall him ever being the head coach.
  6. Well as far as Disney vs Individual Nationals go I would say it could be the difference between getting around 8 or so guaranteed matches vs possibly going 2 and out. However, National Duals wise though you are getting about the same amount of guaranteed matches with the only difference being the style of wrestling.
  7. If I recall the divisions are divided up by school size. However, you can ask to have your school place in another division I believe if you can justify the reason. A D1 team may move to D2 because cause the team is very young/inexperienced, it mostly their JV guys, etc. A D2 team may move to D1 because they want to see differeent competition. Some team may want to move up to the D1 division or stay in D2 just to face more out of state competion instead of running the chance of facing several in-state teams (most of IN teams are D1). Some schools with multiple team (like Penn) may divide their group up between the division in an attempt not face each other in the competition. While Yorktown can probably ask to be placed in D1they are in the correct spot size wise being in D2, they many not have brought their whole varsity starting line up, they may want to face more out of state competion, or maybe they just want a crack at being back to back D2 champions. I would also say some of the "best teams" are actually in All-Star division too (made up of kids from several different schools), but I don't see many top school teams moving into that division from D1 or D2.
  8. I'm guessing tickets are still available. Anyone attending? Should be a good night of fights for a very reasonable price. I was wanting to go if I can get one of our other coaches to make the trip down with me.
  9. Well obviously we would have to remove the seniors, not account yet for some 8th grade studs, and wait to actually hear who moves up a weight to have a somewhat realistic looking list. But, I would expect next years start of the season rankings to look something similar to this since the RC usually does the first rankings just off of a few things (A) last years state tournament results ( fills in the lower spots from SS results © and/or names from his final rankings of the previous year: 1. Phillips 1st 2. Petrov 2nd 3. Schroeder 3rd 4. Brooks 5th 5. Farrell 6th 6. Hamm 8th 7. VanHook SQ 8. Busz SQ 9. Gettinger SQ 10. Moss SQ 11. Bevans SQ 12. Shepard SQ 13. Nelson SQ 14. Overby SQ 15. Venezia ranked 7th (lost at SS) 16. Slagla ranked 12th (lost at SS) 17. Yamamoto ranked 14th (lost at SS) 18. Schmith ranked 16th (lost at SS) 19. Bova ranked 19th (lost at SS) 20. Ferdig best record of state alternates (lost at SS) With a little adjusting you now just have 13 more to go Rankings Guy. Though we can probably expect to see more than half these names at 112 or 119 next year.
  10. No I though those were your notes on the article and video interview. I was just pointing out what I recalled about it in reference to the question.
  11. I think judo was Soko's background but kickboxing has become his other main style.
  12. I really don't think the the mighty dollar is the only real factor with the top guys at the weight class. But if the guys value the individual national trip as being the most important then I'm sure the combined expences does wiegh heavy on some families. If the individuals or the duals were in Indiana or very close I'm sure we would get more guys involved because the cost of both trips and travel of families would be way less of a factor. I do see cost being more of a factor as you go down the depth chart though. I'm sure many wrestlers/parents have put some thought o if its worth the money with the potential of getting thrown around all weekend by top national guys (since they had previously just lost to Indiana's top guys). Sure its an experience to wrestle at the level but its may not be much of one for some. Sure money shouldn't be a issue and the organizers of the trip try their best not to make it one. But until someone can figure out a viable option its going to effect our team when it comes the top guys participating in both or the next teir down guys who don't know if the experience if worth the cost. I hope we are able to put a team together reguardless of the level all the members are at. These kids deserve a chance to go and at least try and compete rather than forfeit enough weight that they don't even have a chance at a decent team score.
  13. 12 teams isn't that bad of size of a compatative conference where all the teams regularly see each other. However, Midwest wise if they expand further, I'd like to see two more team added between Missouri, Iowa State, and ND. That would make the Big Ten a 14 team two division conference. I think anything larger than 14 is just to big in football terms. To me it would be hard to make a schedule which included enough of the teams from opposite divisions playing each other on regular basis to be worth having a 16 team divsion.
  14. A large number of them played and several were also sucessful. If you do a search on the message board you will see a few threads about athletes who wrestled and also did well in football or other sports.
  15. I think "those that it does affect" is educators on the short term but the entire society of America in the long term. Most people would agree if you dramatically cut back on the resources and components used in a process it kind to keep up the quality of product let a long actually improve on it. To bad we have so many who only look at the short term or won't be around in the long term to worry about it.
  16. You are dropping the ball Y2. This is the true wrestling rooster The RED ROOSTER Terry Taylor.
  17. I think similar idea's have at least been floated around at a few school corporations. For mine (amoung other sports cuts) at one point it was suggested that they stop paying assistant coaches at the middle school & high school level and stop paying for anything associated with elementary sports completely. They decided to keep the assitant coaching pay intact, but are still trying to hash out what to do about the elementary sports programs.
  18. Rashad was very good with scoring a soild shot and then holding (clinch or guard) Rampage at bay for long period of time. They would then be broken up for lack of work and the process was repeated. Not exactly a destructive win from someone who wanted to teach Rampage a lesson, but it still was a win. Ramapage really didn't have much room the open up his offense before Rashad would close the gap and neutralize the fight. Rampage did get one big oppertunity in the 3rd round to finish the fight off a blocking Rashads takedown and returning a series of strikes. Hoever he didn't find the combination of final blows needed to do it and Herb Dean stood them up again. Some of the other fights were OK but nothing to spectacular out of this card. I few upset wins and one contriversial win early on in the card though.
  19. I'm more of a Rampage PRIDE fan, as well. He knows how to be a showman but also delivers a big fight in the ring. However, as I've said before Rashad is one of those fighters that we are not sure exactly how he's going to win big fights, but in the end he finds a way to do it. Because of that I put this as a close contest than I would like it to be.

  21. That's a Y2 exclusive interview. He also has one up of Bryce Hasseman too.
  22. Will this school be taking over the old Anderson Highlands building by any chance? If so I'm glad to see Ball State helped step up and get some good use out of the place.
  23. Bubba came in as the second replacement for the match I believe, so he really helped fill in so the match had another decent name attached to it.
  24. I think several years of athletic incidents across the board (some wrestling related) has lead to the Athletic Department taking another stance to clean up the problem. Bad break for Marion but sounds like he its his own doing.
