  1. Not been a great two days thus far for the US. At least not on the Greco side of things. The one slight positive as been Lester as 4-2 and placed 5th. This does qualify the US at that weight class for the Olympics. The top 5 qualify there country at that specific weight and everyone else has to keep trying at another qualifying event. Mango 0-1 (27th) Ruiz 1-2 (20th) Betterman 0-1 (35th) Haight 0-1 (26th) Byers 0-1 (24th) These placement were decided by how the opponent that beat you finished the event. For those unaware the only way to reach the wrestleback/repechage portion (for 3rd place) in international competition is if someone who beat you made the finals of the competition. Hopefully, we will finish a little stronger as the week progresses.
  2. Anyway to advertise wrestling though other media sounds like a positive to me. Those wrestling fans who dislike MMA usually point to it pulling away potential US guys who could wrestle internationally. However, most of the wrestlers turned MMA guys were probably not going to end up Olympic medalist so in my view joining MMA still allows them to promote wrestling. That to me makes wrestlers in MMA always a positive thing. Them having success and winning titles is always a bonus too. Who knows they may inspire someone to get there kid into wrestling who could go onto be one of ate all time best or at least go one to become a better adult through what this sport teaches.
  3. You still have time left. Just some catching up to do. A few World and Olympics titles plus pinning a space alien from Rylon 5 to win the intergalactic championship may do it.
  4. I'm sure it was ran well. I'm also sure a few tournaments could learn a few things. But it does help with managment of an event when its around 250 participants, 14 weights, and probably a manageable size crowd. Now compare that to an ISWA events numbers, multiple age groups and weights, and larger crowd and you add many more factors. The major problem most ISWA tournaments isn't the organization its trying to manage and troubleshoot multiple issues with the crowds and participants while the event is running. I will say some locations are getting better at figuring those issues out though. Just wish they would pass the hints along and others would take the time to listen to them.
  5. The question "I thought I heard Boston's moved? Did one move and one not? Im confusssed..." is in reference to the Boston brothers which originally had Nathan moving out of state and his brother staying at LN. However, plans have since changed and both brothers Nathan has said he will also be at LN again this season. James wasn't referenced in the question or the previous few post which the question was based on from what I can tell.
  6. I haven't seen any official word, but I would assume some type of penalty. We may hear more after Cael is done with worlds. One things for sure, PSU's chances of a repeat are slipping because of a few key guys off season issues.
  7. Originally Nathen had planned on moving. However, late it was decided to stay in state. So both will be at LN this year.
  8. Never been much for Rush but I'm not opposed to the P-funk. ;D
  9. I know a year or two back that Ohio or Illinois had a really slick highlight video that displayed during their tournament. The start of it had more to do with the history of the state with older video clips, had several highlight from old state finals set to music with some quotes and video interviews from some past multi-time champions mixed in. It would be awsome if someone had the time to put together a video which Conseco would let us down in segments (maybe 5 min) before each new round of the state. It would definitely add something to the experience and hype up the crowd.
  10. Shifted weight classes to the upper weights. None were removed since we still have 14. But, yes a 15th weight class would have been nice. Though the argument for some there may have been if some teams can't fill 14 wieghts why would we want to add another and possibly see more forfeits.
  11. Last word I heard was they made an arrangement that worked for the new arena in Evansville.
  12. Lesner seems to have a repeating process. Train, fight against a tough opponent, injury/sickness, repeat. Dana sure isn't throw Brock to many tune up type fights in his returns to fighting.
  13. Yeah the keep bring up other decent names as possibilities for the undercard. Dana must sure want to make a statment with the first Fox line up. It's starting to look better on paper several PPVs.
  14. Diaz history of multiple issues (out of ring confrontations/fights, drug us, ignoring his bosses) sure holds back what talent he does have. It's definitely putting a dent in the card, as well.
  15. Seveal 2x state champs with multiple state qualifications still available. As well as, wrestlers who funished there career with some of to top individual records in the state.
  16. Unfortunately any argument against the new weights would have held much more weight (pun intended) if presented last year. Anyone paying attention new then that it would come down to a vote this spring/summer between the old weights and Option B. Heck we knew two years ago this maybe coming doen the pipe when the national federation presented the first weight options.
  17. Doesn't that double as Uncle Bob's cow pasture during the mornings? Watch out for Ol' Betsy on the landing.
  18. How about some music & wrestling fusion. I'm not much of a country fan but I'll make an exception here. For those needing a little more rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h87Md3Q-hcU&sns=em Or for the hip hop crowd For those of you more into dancing I suggest looking into Ohio State Wrestling Talent Show on YouTube. Humphrey may have a chance at Dancing With The Stars if he can medal in the Olympics.
  19. Adding to a decent core of home grown Purdue light weights. Congrats.
  20. No IHSAA affiliation probably equals little to no support from each HS's support for wrestling. So then it becomes a off campus club sport. Not having a school affiliation then equals less chance of the average student giving wrestling a try. So in my view not the best move for school wrestling to leave the IHSAA. Even if the organization doesn't always do what we think is best or right it still provides a platform in which to grow the sport at the school level and would have to do something more major to have schools volunteer to leave it. With that said developing some type of team tournament separate from the IHSAA would be great. Because of school schedules an semi-inclusive one in season could be tough to do. However, one right after the season through a club organization like USA Wrestling, HYWAY, or something else would be great if enough teams and individuals would be willing to participate. It could start as a all in one tournament and branch to multi-classes as the interest grows.
  21. There must be some mistake the IHSAA would never make a ruling that would paint wrestling as possibly a team sport.
  22. Better question is why can teams enter JV kids into competitions without costing the whole team a point either. Same basic situations.
  23. Well at least have no clue on how to interpret the rules as they are written. We seem to run into that problem several times when issues reach the state level.
