  1. I'm just hoping to hear that he's back on the mat for some of the national events that are happening this spring. The school situation we can wonder about later this summer.
  2. Here is one of the best story (first post) that I had read about what type of guy Randleman was. https://m.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/45cjn7/kevin_randleman_has_passed_away_aged_44_rip_the/?ref=share&ref_source=link
  3. I was completely expecting that about 2 weeks ago. Well, the # filter part. Not the TripleB part.
  4. You could probably set something like this up if one of the areas is interested. I know the Clark & Floyd County areas (Jeffersonville, New Albany, Floyd Central, etc.) of Indiana has a Battle at the Bridge event with the Jefferson County area (Louisville) of Kentucky.
  5. Hall is quite the athlete and a rare talent that can hopefully continue to achieve great things in this sport. But, it is worth pointing out that he also got an extra season in Kentucky his first 7th grade year to help in developing his skills against high school athletes, before moving back to Minnesota. So he actually has 6 State titles (Minnesota) and a Runner-Up (Kentucky).
  6. He won't be coming in with quite the same national youth resume as his brothers, but he will be a solid addition to the MD high school room.
  7. The idea is that since the trips are expensive and time consuming that college coaches or their assistances place a bigger value on getting to see more wrestlers and matches per trip when attending a multi-class event. The hope maybe being that the chances of finding a diamond in the rough may increase under those conditions.
  8. Not to mention that they just straight run over most teams afterward.
  9. A little more national exposure for Indiana including a mention of Mason Parris moving up the 220 rankings. But, you have some work to do on your moves Willie. http://www.flowrestling.org/video/923067-wno-its-state-tournament-time
  10. I feel like its more of a "backing out of the circle" way of thinking.
  11. Good Flo documentary on Minnisota by the way. Vega contributions to the programs rise did get a little recognition in a portion of Part 3.
  12. Some of these epic matches, major rivalries, and legendary videos seem like they could be the makings of a nice set of future webpage articles. "The Story Behind The Match" Series. Love hearing the background information that build up to the matches and I'm sure their are some good first hand accounts from some people that were close to the action.
  13. Worth noting for the most part these examples are sports that "class" by a previously measured factors that have been proven to show one ability in excel in that particular sport while an adult or at least when someone is a older teenager. Sure they get these evaluation wrong sometimes which creates an occasional outliers, but on average the "class" pools you with the talent group are are most equivalent too. And in terms of the NCAA "classes" an emphasis on grade have also come into play along with some financial concerns as families evaluate the school side of that option. They were not divided up do to a person geography, an areas populations size, school districts, etc. So, a somewhat different argument of how classes is being handled. These examples would fall more in line with how a European Club system is set up than comparing it to HS sports teams. Not saying one is better or worse than the other, but its a different system based more on evaluation than location.
  14. If I remember correctly doesn't Illinois, or maybe I'm thinking of another state, have some kind of consolidation program which allows the smaller schools to combined for sports practices and maybe even competition?
  15. I think Chad Red has proven over the last two years, through wrestling the top ranked guys in the nations, that he has become one of the best top riders in the country. Not necessarily turners, but riders. It would be saying a lot for a wrestlers escape ability if he (a full seasoned Lee or anyone) was able to quickly get out from under Red in the 3rd period of a match and with time enough to score a soild takedown. The idea of Lee possibly finishing a takedown earlier in the match maybe plausible, but the quick escape is a very hard sell.
  16. You may need to approach that from a different angle. That argument wouldn't account for the 30+ states that are classed for wrestling who are routinely considered below Indiana in terms of wrestling talent. Or if you take away the state that are near or closing in on Indiana, the 20+ state who haven't seen nearly the wrestling development with their classed system. That argument speaks more to the long wrestling tradition and decades of wrestling development at the youth levels in those states than just creating a class system in HS. Aspects of classed wrestling may be a factor in their growth, but it is hard to tell when the 30+ other state examples of classed wrestling haven't seen near that level of success. As I've mentioned in the past taking a good look at the infrastructure some of these traditional wrestling state have created, as well as, looking to see what some of the fast rising states have implemented in the last few years may provide some indication on the steps our state needs to take to move higher on the state rankings. We will likely find that Indiana has began to implement some of those successful measures, but should continue to cultivate and expand them. It may also be found that, classed wrestling make the list of possible items. But I have a feeling it is not as high on the list other items that have allowed those states to continue to show growth.
  17. Coach Snyder, I'm just wondering if Brayton's face has recovered from that state title smile yet. He was grinning from ear to ear after the win and figured his face may still be stuck in that position. Great year for him.
  18. Can we claim back the Illinois wrestlers that are from Indiana for this event?
  19. I believe a few years back we had an article on here or at least a well organized post that talked about the top team in Indiana history and used some stats to try to rank them. Someone maybe able to bring that one back up. Based on some of the points that were made earlier are we talking best "Tournament" team rather than dual meet team. In that case the 2003 Griffith squad with Alex Tsirtsis, Angel Escobedo, Andre Hernandez, David Martin III, Jose Escobedo, Santana Adams and a few other semi-state qualifiers should be close to the top 10. If it wasn't for the juggernaut of EMD that year that team would be one of the most talked about of all time.
  20. Maybe he moved up to HS to avoid their younger brother Matt Lee, he's pretty decent too. I'd agree that his post doesn't hold enough weight and didn't need to be made.
  21. To get on the list your coach has to be a members of the Coaches Association and also remember to submit the grade info before the deadline. In certain cases one or both of these items may have prevented a seniors listed above from making Academic All-State despite that student having a high academic rating. Great job to Kleiomola and Hilderbrandt though for being leaders in the classroom, as well as, on the mat.
  22. How many times has someone drop down a weight class and win a state champion, let along repeat as champ? We see wrestlers move up each year and repeat. We some repeat at the same weight. But it's got to be a very rare group of people who actually drop down a weight class and won a state title. Other than possibly in years that the weight classes changes, I'd almost venture to say Rypel maybe the first to ever to repeat as state champ after dropping down a weight class.
  23. Well just to clarify the criteria given in the link. "The criteria for selection will be left intentionally vague as we want a variety of opinions as to who the voters think is the best wrestler. Some general criteria that can be considered is listed here: 1. Must be a senior 2. Undefeated/fewest losses. A midseason loss would not disqualify a wrestler. 3. Domination. Number of pins, tech falls 4. Level of competition. 5. Body of work previous to senior year. State and national resume. 6. Character 7. Grades Any, or all of these may, or may not, be taken into consideration by the voters when making their selections. We have chosen 39 voters to make this selection because we value their knowledge and experience regarding Indiana high school wrestling."
  24. About any other year a few of these guys would be shoe ins for the award. But this years senior class has Chad Red, whose scope of accomplishments in and out of Indiana puts him well above the group and maybe even any senior to come through Indiana.
  25. Well I was talking to my 6 year old about the state championship and he asked if the winner gets a cool championship belt.
