  1. Hildebrandt take the first match of the finals 4-3 thanks to a nicely timed headlock.
  2. I agree that its worth at least experimenting with at the elementary and MS level to see if we can get kids hooked, even though they may make the switch to a singlet in HS. However, (I know I'm halfway jacking the thread) it will be hard pressed to get most of the Middle School programs in the state on the same page with allowing this in competition until some type of state level MS wrestling organization if formed within the IHSWCA, IHSAA, or otherwise. As it stands there is already such a discrepancy across the state on the number of weight classes, the weight distribution of the classes, the period times, allowing for a weight allowance, use of equipment like headgear, etc. Some districts or school conferences at least have some general guidelines, but they sometimes vastly differ with the neighboring area. As such, I'm not sure where some of these schools refs or coaches would come down on a major uniform change if the opposing team showed up expecting to wrestle win compression shirts and fight shorts. That is at least until the IHSAA decides it fitting, and it trickles down from there.
  3. Thanks for info. I was thinking that maybe the case but wasn't for sure. So maybe not early College Opens, but a possiblity that Nick could be eligible for Midlands if his plan is to wrap up HS courses this semester.
  4. He's a stand up young man that truly has set very high goals for himself. I'm glad to hear he's taking every opportunity he can to get closer to reaching them. I'm sure we will see him competing in a few international competitions this year. On a side note does a fine know if Lee eligible to compete in some of the College Opens? I know the rules changes a few years back which limited wrestlers still competing in HS from being involved in any college events. But, I wasn't sure how that would effect Lee if he's taking his senior year off of HS competition. Or on a related note if he's not eligible now due to finishing HS courses, would he be eligible for the Midlands at the end of Dec if he finishes his HSgraduation requirements by then?
  5. D. Hughes, R. Lefever, & T. Karl make the finals. Micic was on his way but got pinned while taking a shot in semis.
  6. I always thought those banners stood for wrestling. I dislike a lot more houses around my area now.
  7. Anyone have any updated info on when the tickets will go on sale? I haven't contacted IU since my initial e-mail, but based on that reply was was suppose to be sometimes in the fall.
  8. Hey, the guy had to take his daughter and son trick or treating last night. I'm sure the sugar high his daughter experienced after made it really hard to put the final touches on the Magazine.
  9. From what I've seen before, with most uniform changes the IHSAA usually gives school a two year grace period before it's mandatory. This would allow the ADs to budget around the changes. I'm not sure where the IHSAA stands in this issue, but if it does become a change I'm sure team will have time to adjust. Or more likely I could see it being a secondary option along with the singlet, rather than a requirement. I'd like to see if offering secondary uniform option at the elementary and middle would work in drawing some more participants. If it get more kids over any initial reservations enough so we can get them hooked on the sport, then a switch to a singlet in HS may not be as big of a issue.
  10. I'm not sure how many districts are like mine, but we have a long standing rule that no sporting competitions are schedule for Wednesday and all sports practices must end by 6, to allow for "family time" that evening. Which is a way of circumventing the church and state rules, since its mostly so kids can attend their local church youth groups or choir practices that evening.
  11. Evans getting to be part of a pretty decent upper weight recruiting class for Brown. AJ Pedro, Drew Peck and Bryce Rodger have also committed to the school.
  12. Congrats to those that put in the effort to get this thing going. I hope it develops into something that can provide these young ladies more opportunities. However, I am a little concerned with the amout of weight classes lists for these first few years. I'm rooting for big numbers. Yet, I would hate to see thecompetition level spread so thin that the event feels more like a simple exhibition instead of a major event.
  13. 132 9 - B. Bailey 20 - P. Konrath 138 1 - N. Lee. (6th P4P) 145 5 - B. Lee 11 - J. Lee (expect he will move back up by end of year) 160 15 - B. Laughlin (but wrestled like he was much higher this weekend) 195 7 - A. Davison 220 5 - M. Parris
  14. MS Mendez 3rd Warren 5th Reynolds 7th HS Bailey 4th B. Lee 3rd J. Lee 6th Laughlin 4th A. Davison 3rd
  15. The MS division has a few IN boys still alive Aiden Warren is in the semi-finals of 136 Jesse Mendez is in the consol semi-finals of 95 Jaden Reynolds is in consol quarter-finals of 126
  16. Bailey will have a tough 3rd place match against #4 ranked Brian Courtney. Courtney gained some national recognition last school year after beating 3 previous PA state champs to capture a state title. He also has a list of wins over several nationally ranked kids. Laughlin get to the 3rd place match against #10 Hidlay of PA. If he's anything like his brother Hayden he'll be a handful. Braydon Lee and Andrew Davison also make it to 3rd place matches. It looks like both of their opponents are currently unranked by Flo.
  17. If I remember the explanation correctly Willie from Flo said the weight class ranking are measured by a wrestlers actual results, while the pound for pound are more an evaluation of potential. So while Nick has the better portfolio of results to give him the higher weight class ranking, Willie at this point "feels" Arujua has a slightly better upside this far.
  18. Also a former FloNatuonals Champ and Cadet World Champ. Could be a big statement win for Braydon Lee, not to mention I'd like to see Lee vs. Lee now just incase we don't get it this HS season.
  19. I know he had originally said he was going to try both. But it's hard to pull double duty, so plans may have changed. I did see his name on the wrestling roster when I looked earlier this week.
  20. I haven't looked to far into it but I've seen Asa Garcia, Paul Konrath, Braydon Lee, and Joe Lee on the preview list.
  21. I knew he'd find a good use for that extra energy. Good luck Danny.
  22. Seems like he's still turned out to be a well adjusted young man in spite of such great state qualification adversity. Good luck to him at the event.
  23. Lee was named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week for his performance at Who's #1. http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Athlete-of-Week/2016/October/03/Nick-Lee-named-USA-Wrestling-Athlete-of-the-Week
