    I have two young boys who aren't ready for a trip to state just yet so I was watching that match on line. I usually get Hooters wings and watch on the computer. Anyway McKinley hit that headlock and I about snneared wing sauce all over the computer trying to rewind. That was just plain nasty! As soon as he hit it I was thinking "There is no way even Dan Gable on his best day could get out of that!"

    Although I don't think I'm THAT old I'm going to date my self a bit, the MD vs. Central meets of the 90's, say 91-95 or so were out of this world I think 93 being the craziest. MD's gym was packed to the gills, rabid fans on both sides. I wrestled the resurve match as a soph. we didn't have anywhere to sit after we got done wrestling our match. We had the evansville sectional at MD back then and that was a ruckus too you'd never believe it unless you'd seen it.

    I can take that answer ..... somewhat but to call it recruiting I think would be false. I never had anyone knocking on my door or sending me letters asking me to attend. Not that I was a state caliber wrestler but I was a wrestler none the less. This may be your sight but I'm gonna go ahead and say you are wrong on the "Scrlet Letter" you're sewing on to those MD singlets. Those 5th 6th 7th and 8th graders already know where they're going to highschool.

    Anyone stating recruiting is the reason MD is a top team is just plain WRONG . We've been through this a 1000 times those guys are home grown. There may be a couple of move in's, but year in and year out it's the same names. I can't speak for other teams in the state but I can say that the other Evansville schools aren't calling foul. If MD was recruiting I think Evansville Reitz would be throwing a fit, especialy with the streingth of the teams they've had lately with another strong team this year.

    OK two questions, First, will the Al Smith Tourny have wildcards or not? Second, If there will be wildcards, would a full invitational in each weight class be in the Al Smith Tourny future? (IE the Midlands)

    Although Mauer's career was cut short in college his national succses was very evident through grade school and highschool.

    Probably 1/2 to 3/4 of Mater Dei's football team is on the wrestling team.

    OK I'm way out of the loop. Why wouldn't Howe be going back to Wisconsin? What happened?

    Have you ever watched a post game interview of a basketball player and they say "This was a great win it was a real physical game" I laugh my butt off! Especialy after you watch a post match interview and the wrestler says "I just try to wrestle my match and keep the tempo up...." at the same time he's still bleeding and can only see out of one eye because the other is swollen shut and he's still got to wrestle the semi-finals. Man I love this sport!

    Boston continues to impress me and the rest if our state I'm sure. I really can't wait to wee what the future holds for him. I only saw his finals match at state, the interview after and watched hime destroy the field at team state, but WOW!

    Not a jab at all I just figured after the 125 finals match that the place was probably pretty wild when Mcginly won I syould hve turned my smileys off

    I'll be taking shots at you as long as you're taking shots at MD. No one from MD has said anything bad about the Welches or Castle wrestling while you've been slinging mud all season long, in fact we've been behind Castle the whole season except for SIAC an regionals when we're wrestling Castle. MD is one BIG family so if you take a shot at my family I'm takin' a shot at you. Cut the crap and you won't get any back. As far as making varsity I don't have to prove anything to you I know where my blood sweat and tears got me, I've got a lifetime of memories to tell my kids and grandkids who will all be part of the MD family.

    I saw an IHSAA official once at team state I think it was Cox the older lady next to him (I suppose it was his wife) asked why every one was so quiet. It was the finals match and it was MD vs Penn I think it was 97. I told her that since it wasn't seeded all the good matches were earlier in the day and every one knew MD was gonna burry Penn. She kind of gave me a disbeleiving look I just shrugged my shoulders and said look at the score at the end and you'll see what I mean.

    No they will never lose the red tights and you have never seen a Mater Dei wrestler without them. I think this will be a great match to watch I just hate that it's so early in the day but that's the way it goes. One final note, I supose we're losing Team State and I think it's horrible, this is such a fun event to watch and it truly shows who the best TEAM is! I'm done now, good luck to all the wrestlers and teams still participating this year!
