  1. Yes it did. Macke lost to Dustin like 10-5. CP tech falled Nosko (who won state that year) very quickly and Craig Weinzapfel beat David Erwin.
  2. Nathan Golembeski of Providence, ranked #1 and spladdled first round of regionals.
  3. For anybody looking to pre-game, the great J-Biceps is currently boozing it up at Tom Tap at City Market. FYI.
  4. There's always a great chance for a sighting at those spots!
  5. Has anybody listed what the actual financial figures are for this event? - Costs for Ft Wayne Col. vs Pepsi vs Convention Center, etc. - Revenue from previous years/expected revenue this year - Any other additional costs for putting the event on It could help if everybody had the same information.
  6. I went and watched this dual, here's what I remember: MD only won 4 matches. Matt Coughlin won a decision, Craig Weinzapfel beat David Erwin, who was highly touted at the time, by decision, Sam Wildeman won a decision and their HWY Schwarz won by pin. Final score was something like 39-15. Macke lost to Dustin Schlatter by 5 or so. He kept trying to hit a jap throw and Dustin would just counter it and take the points. Dustin Nosko (who won state that year) was teched quickly by CP Schlatter. I'm thinking early in the 2nd period. Maurer lost to Joe Dennis, as mentioned earlier in the thread. This one was tied with about 6 seconds to go and Dennis fired off 3 rapid shots in a row and nailed the last one at the buzzer for the win. Unfried, who placed at 215, was man-handled by Jason Marshall. This guy was a vicious brute. Pretty sure he injury defaulted Unfried and several other opponents that evening. Very aggressive and physical.
  7. The finals match lacked action, but Coughlin roasted the rest of the competition. Coughlin torched Matt Dragon who lost by 1 point to Metcalf at the Dapper Dan that year. Bracket also had Joey Ecklof, John Bonilla-Bowman, Andrew Flanagan...in addition to Dragon and Morningstar. Coughlin was on top of his game at this point. It would have been awesome to see him against Schlatter or Metcalf that day, before all the battles with his weight held back his college career.
  8. Sophomore year he lost in the finals to Aaron Clark, who was a monster that year. Macke beat Clark the following week at Team State...but alas no individual titles were in the cards.
  9. They got beat pretty bad by Graham. MD handled everybody else they faced, that day. The final against Graham was 39-15. MD won 4 matches: Matt Coughlin, Craig Wienzapfel, Sam Wildeman, and their HWY won by pin. Craig Macke lost to Dustin Schlatter, Dustin Nosko was teched by CP Schlatter(Nosko won state that year), and Maurer lost to Joe Dennis on a last second takedown (they were tied at the time).
  10. I may have it buried somewhere. I was there, and based of memory the final was something like 39-15, with MD only winning 4 matches (Matt Coughlin, Craig Weinzapfel, Sam Wildeman, and the MD Heavy (Schwarz?) actually got a pin). Macke lost to Dustin Schlatter, Dustin Nosko was teched quickly by CP Schlatter, and Blake Maurer lost to Joe Dennis.
  11. FYI - it is St. Paris Graham. They finished 3rd in the nation that year and had such notables as the Schlatter brothers (Dustin and CP) and Joe Dennis, etc.
  12. Hah, where'd you get that from? Liam Neeson is playing Hannibal, not Leslie Nielson!
  13. Yes, Donahoe beat him during the season the year Donahoe won nationals.
  14. Yeah, Angel has never beaten Donahoe or Nickerson in college.
  15. I was from the south end of the region drawing into that semistate and it was already an extremely long drive, East Chicago or Michigan City would make it even worse for people not already for the Region. Just my opinion though. Are you serious? Look at the drives nearly EVERY team going to Evansville has to make. Well over half are 2+ hours, with some around 3.5-4 hours. You're complaining about what again??? Get real.
  16. Their position is that they do not seed state tournaments, so there is little chance they'll make an exception just for wrestling.
  17. The only reason that needs to be stated, has been, MULTIPLE times already. They do not seed ANY other HS state finals here in Indiana so they are not going to do it for wrestling. It doesn't matter how much you like the sport, it is not that important to the people in charge of the IHSAA.
  18. You mean February 6th? Regionals are held on the 7th. Yes, they host Purdue the evening before Regionals at 7pm.
  19. Yeah, bring your wallet AND appetite if going to Fogo. Might need to bring double of both. It's pricey, but you can rest assured you can get your money's worth and more if you can stay hungry long enough!
  20. I'm a busy man! Claddagh is always nice. I'd vote for one of the 3 brew pubs right there in the vicinity (Rock Bottom, Ram, Alcatraz), though.
  21. The same Schlatter who was notorious for taking down an opponent and cutting them all throughout High School, including on the national stage?? Sure, he's got some riding skills...but he was a takedown machine in HS. Just because he's absolutely shut his offense down the past couple of years (to much less success) doesn't mean that he wasn't predominately a "cut" guy in the past.
  22. What you describe is punking or bullying and I believe classless. Andrew Howe is a total class act. Andrew was not and is not about embarrassing guys. Maybe it is just a poor choice of words on your part. You should work to "break" your opponent. This is done through good conditioning and good technique. Andrew Howe had both to the greatest degree. It is not a matter of caring about another guys feelings. It is about respecting the opponent for having the courage to face the challenge that trying to be a good wrestler presents. On the cutting an opponent issue, it has its place, but I assure you it is only used at the next level if it is impossible to hold someone down. You better learn how to ride a guy if you hope to compete at the next level. Somebody better tell Brent Metcalf he doesn't know how to ride and can't compete at the next level then.
  23. Greg Schaefer vs. Leroy Vega has to be one of the best. This one carried over to the Big Ten college level. I believe the final tally is 4-4.
