There are already 60 plus kids(many top notch wrestlers) signed up from 3 different states with a week and a half to go. This is Indiana's version of the Celtic/Midwest Classic.
With all due respect, isn't what sets the Celtic Elite and Midwest Classic apart as top flight tournaments is having one open division with no age groups? Midwest Classic had 455 kids and Celtic Elite had 527 kids last year when I looked at Trackwrestling. I appreciate a good advertisement as much as the next guy, but the comparison isn't exactly fair or accurate with 60 kids signed up across 5 different age groups and 15 weight classes per age group.

I like splitting my money between Tomasello and Nickal with these odds. I'd consider some action on McKenna as well, but I don't think any of the other longshots pay out.

Does something like this count in your list? Wrestler A (senior) defeats Wrestler B (freshman) Wrestler B goes on to win state as a Senior, Wrestler A never won a title. Does that count as beating a State Champ? Or does it have to be the same year they won it?
I would count it in your scenario.

Matt Hurford? He was unreal at Ellsworth and I was hoping to see him somewhere this year

I know Bam Lawrence has wins over Jacob Covaciu and Trent Pruitt in his career as well.

To take some of the subjectivity out of this debate..
Who has beaten the most State Champions in their high school career but did not win state?
I see a lot of guys mentioned above who were very good high school wrestlers with multiple state medals, but never beat anyone who won it all. I think to be on the list you had to have beaten several guys who were good enough to win it all.
I'll throw Aaron Sessa's name in the hat. Wins over State Champions Brennan Cosgrove, Fernando Martinez, and Javier Salas in his career.
Who else?

Hook n Half,
The Region is so busy beating our own chest and patting ourselves on the back that we wrote a book about the history of Region wrestling to sell to the rest of the state about how good we are.... Oh wait, no we didn't. That was you and that book was about Evansville Mater Dei.
Speaking of the Mater Dei book, I'm surprised they even let you have sharp objects to write with in the geriatric ward.

Parham, are yours lower level?

Penn should not be in anybody's definition of the Region.
Depending who you ask, there's 2 definitions of the Region.
The first is the area known as the "Calumet Region". This is Hammond, East Chicago, Whiting, Gary, Munster, Highland, Griffith. You have to be an old school Region Rat to consider just this area the Region.
The "new school" definition of the Region includes pretty much all of Lake and Porter Counties. This would expand the "old school" definition to include Lake Central, Crown Point, Hanover Central, Lowell, Merrillville, Hobart, Lake Station (aka Snake Nation), Portage, Valparaiso, Chesterton, Wheeler.

On a side note, what did Bellmont do to upset the Bracket Gods?
6 state qualifiers and they'll be the underdog in 4 of the 6 on Friday night.

Based on this, it looks like it is really a 2 horse race between Brownsburg and Warren Central. I would consider Brownsburg to be the slight favorites, but that said, their margin for error is very, very slim since you can see I've scored them with 6 semi-finalists. Walton losing to Goering, or Damler losing to Hankenson on Friday night all but sinks Brownsburg's ship, as Warren appears to have 7 very winnable matches. If Brownsburg does get 6 to the semis, I think that the 106 semifinal between Mills and Murphy decides the team title.

Couple of tips for you out of towners...
Don't stop to ask for directions and don't come to a complete stop at red lights and stop signs!

My vote is for Karl "Squints" Hungus.

If what I have heard is true, this is a shame. Potentially one of Indiana's finest never to win state.
On the same token, I hope it's not true and wish the best for Paul.
