    I was actually disappointed not to see more flips and dances! When you go through a grinder and win a State Championship, I think you should get at least a minute to go wild!!!! Thousands of hours of focus and you finally get to pat yourself on the back - these guys earn that celebration!

    It's going to be a great match, whenever it occurs, but personally I want to see it under the lights. These two are on a different level & they deserve to get their time under the lights in what could go down as the greatest state finals match ever.

    Hoehn had an injury last year that, from my understanding, continued to linger and in effect, ended his H.S. wrestling career. Too bad too, I would have loved to see him on Mt. Vernon's team this year.

    Gotta agree. It would be hard to win 3 titles as a Junior. That being said - no doubt Ferg is a scrappy wrestler, definitely one the Reitz program can be proud of!

    Love it! There is nothing like MD wrestling and the MD v Reitz match is one of my favorites every year!!!

    When I saw this preview cover today, all of my hard-fought determination to stay off of the boards until wrestling season began went out the door. Cannot wait for this season to begin!

    I was cheering my arse off for ALL of the Evansville kids (including the Reitz kids - in fact, probably more for the Reitz kids than any of the other non-MD kids), so it always raises my rankles when I see some idiot on here trying to pit Reitz and MD against each other. To say that this has not been a typical year for MD would be understating it...yet, they still beat Reitz in their dual meet & they still won the Regional. And in an earlier post, someone said, "MD is a better dual meet team, Reitz is a better tournament team"...that's an awfully big generalization to be basing off of ONE YEAR. Here's a little something from the IHSAA website: Most Individual Champions by a School (1933-43; 1950-present) EMD: 25 REITZ: 2 Looks to me like MD does all right in tournaments.... Good luck to all the Evansville kids @ state this week-end, especially my westside boys Parkinson, Forzley, Wimpelberg, Kuhn, and Davis!!!

    That is a realistic fear. At this point, the Olympics is the pinnacle for career wrestlers - the one big "payoff" so to speak for athletes who have trained and sacrificed their entire lives for some recognition of their talent - let's face it, wrestling is a sport that's done for love, there is nothing else. The Olympics are supposed to be the ultimate showcase of amatuer talent - if wrestling does not qualify, I'm not sure what does. This is a sad day for international sports...

    Wyatt Seng did wrestle. He wasn't able to crack the Varsity line-up this year, at his weight. He had a very successful JV season and got some Varsity matches in as well. You'll see him in the lineup next year.

    Every program has bumps and bruises, and this year MD took their fair share. A young team, coupled with some pretty key injuries (there just isn't an easy way to replace an Evan Collins) - and yet they still performed at a very high level - a level that many teams would dream of. Was semi-state surreal - in some ways yes it was, but the reality is that the outcome wasn't very far from what I thought might happen due to the draws and the way the brackets lined up. Overall, I was disappointed for the Evansville schools as a whole, not just for MD. That being said...tough times never last, but tough "prgrams" do...MD will be back with a vengence, Greg will be at the helm, and the MD faithful will be in the stands rooting for our wrestlers and wishing our red & gold brethren luck as Blake & Matt bring the G.S. program back to life.

    Yeah, that sounds right. I knew that Fox beat Kuhn (just one of the many matches that blew up my pick ems...lol!)

    I'm pretty sure Fox was who beat Kuhn in the round to go last year. If I remeber correctly, Kuhn was winning pretty handily and got caught in a move and ended up losing.

    SSQ by Sectional: Central 30 Castle 26 Castle = 9 Champs Central = 5 Champs There were a few weight classes I thought could sweep either way, but no weight class was a sweep by either Sectional.

    To be honest, I'm not sure any takedowns were actually scored on either side of that match - it was a horribly reffed match, the kind of horribly reffed match I've come to expect when either of those refs is on the mat. Unfortunately, this match had a double whammy since they were BOTH working this match.

    I think the thing we're arguing against is the very thing that the School Choice Program will create naturally - elite-program schools. If a school displays dominance in a certain program, more and more talented students in those areas (I'm talking everything from football to theater) will want to "choice" to that school. This will naturally lead to "elite" programs being "built" based on program reputation. The unfortunate drawback of this is that some perhaps less-talented students who are "actual" (meaning they directly feed into that High School based on school district lines) will be left behind and will have to either call it quits on that program or "choice" to another school (most likely one with a lesser program) in order to get a shot. I'm just not certain how the IHSAA is going to police these recruiting policies when School Choice seems to lend itself to those very kinds of possible violations. Going to school used to be about getting the best possible education, but those lines have been so blurred and it's unfortunate that so many "student athletes" are light on the student part and heavy on the athlete part and that so many parents seem to think that's OK.
