  1. Ruth was getting beat I think 9-2 when he hurt his knee. Powless just got pinned in 2:20 by Cam Simaz from Cornell.
  2. did I say something incorrect? If the dual tournament goes to 3 classes and MD is in 1A, nobody will be within 50 points of them. I believe that the only indiana schools to beat MD in a dual in the last 30 years are: LN, Portage, Mishawaka, Castle, Reitz and Delta. What 1A school will be able to knock them off?
  3. MD has lost to Reitz and Castle the last couple of years. Those aren't small schools. In a class dual tournament, MD would be in the finals every year. No small school in the south would be within 50 points of them in a dual. Small schools from the north would be lucky to keep it that close as well.
  4. Reall, DunFan. You are losing sleep because of a questionable (in your mind) call from a high school dual meet? Might I suggest you get a life?
  5. Seems like a bit of an unnecessary shot at Coach Peckinpaugh and New Castle.
  6. Did anybody see this match up on the Big Ten network last night? I saw that it was a 20-5 tech fall, but I didn't get to see the math. Can anybody provide details?
  7. Just a few that come to mind: Gil Journey Craig Macke John Boes Toby Turner
  8. Blake Maurer: 130, 145, 171, 171 Alex Tsirtsis went from 119 - 140 Craig Weinzapfel won his first at 112 and his second at 145
  9. He didn't look like himself because Taylor is that good. Young made it to the finals so there must not have been too much wrong with him.
  10. While it was a good meet and I was happy with the outcome, I thought wrestlers on both teams were wrestling a little conservatively. That's understandable considering the rivalry and all, but I think both sides could have opened up a bit more. I understand that in a close match you may shut it down a little trying not to give up some cheap points or if you are outmatched you don't want to give up bonus points. I saw lots of riding without too many legit attempts at turns. Now, I think several of the match ups are very even and I think that was a big reason for it. Hopefully if they meet up again they'll open up their offenses a bit more. In one match the Reitz wrestler was down 2 with time running out, but instead of pushing the action looking for a takedown, he got hit for a second stall and ended up losing by 3. How can you let that happen?
  11. If some of these moves are guaranteed 5, etc. then why are you waiting to use them until there is 10 seconds left in the match??? ;D On the feet it would be an ankle pick for me. On top, try a cheap tilt or try and lock up a cradle.
  12. Buzz was a state champ for Mater Dei in '86. I want to say he went to wrestle at Lehigh, but not 100% on that. Bucky went to MD as well, but was not a state champ.
  13. I'm curious as to what happened to a some of the wrestlers from my era. Anybody know what happened to some of these guys? Did they wrestle in college? Brandon Ingalls, Lawrence North Case Hooper, Lawrence North Derek Robinson, Lawrence North Jason Terry, Cathedral Gil Journey, Perry Meridian Matt Wills, SB Riley David McCubbins, Monrovia Toby Turner, Monrovia Roger Blanton, Hanover Central Jason Greer, Princeton John Boes, Princeton Thanks.
  14. He probably couldn't care less. Good chance he'll have his opportunity to stake his claim to #1 at the end of the year.
  15. Really? We're going to start talking about little boys that we think will be 4x state champs?
  16. What's the point of having class team rankings? We are a single class state. If/when that changes then these might have some merit, but now they serve no purpose.
  17. Burroughs has wrestled somebody that tries to break his opponent every match....Brent Metcalf. Metcalf beat him 6-0 and 8-4, I believe. How has definitely not wrestled anybody with the athleticism Burroughs posesses. The match will come down to whoever can dictate their style. If Howe can tie him up and grind him, he'll win. If Burroughs can use that athleticism (similar to what Caldwell did to Metcalf) then he will win. I think Howe how wins the season series 2-1, I just hope that 2nd win is in the NCAA finals.
  18. According to the Courier 103 - Wyatt Seng (MD) maj Hunter Arney(M) 13-0 4-0 112 - Sam Goeble (MD) tf Sam Stratman (M) 16-1 9-0 119 - Logan Wedding (M) pin Josh Pierre (MD) 3:33 9-6 125 - Zach Henderson (MD) maj Ben Johnson (M) 14-3 13-6 130 - Lennie May (MD) maj Ben Petrig (M) 11-3 17-6 135 - Quinn Schroeder (MD) maj Matt Bevers (M) 16-3 21-6 140 - Jake Lannert (MD) tf David House (M) 19-1 26-6 145 - Evan Weinzapfel (MD) tf Johnny Richards (M) 17-2 31-6 152 - Tyler Raben (MD) dec Matt Prasek (M) 9-7 34-6 160 - John Sims (MD) maj Brian Hayhurst (M) 16-5 38-6 171 - Dalton Brandenstein (MD) dec Drew Miles (M) 7-1 41-6 189 - Josh Boots (MD) pin Matt Guerrettaz (M) :47 47-6 215 - Kyle Sandwith (M) maj Evan Collins (MD) 12-4 47-10 275 - Justin Van Winkle (MD) pin Sam Mattingly (M) 1:20 53-10 The paper has 112, 140 and 145 listed as major decisions, but the scores suggests otherwise. Paper also had the team score as 52-10, but unless my math is wrong it was 53-10.
  19. Palmore beat Coughlin in the finals, not Macke.
  20. I'm pretty sure that Hooper was runner up at Sr. Nationals in '93. Ingalls was dominate his senior year, nobody really came close to him that I can recall. Just from seeing these guys, I'd put Humphrey at #1, Ingalls and #2 and Hooper #3, with Quiroga #4. this is based strictly off of HS results.
  21. I'll "throw" out John Boes from Princeton. 2x runner up ('89 and '90). He gave a lot of frequent flyer miles those two years. Lost to Keith Davison in '89 and James Starks in '90. He threw Starks a few times in that match. The last one, he threw him to his back, but Starks managed to reverse him straight to his back and got the pin with 1 second left in the second period. Exciting match.
  22. Seemed to me that the Harrison coaching staff was very slow to react to the situation. One coach was at the scorer's table and I don't think he left there the whole time this was going on. One of the other Harrison wrestlers tried to get the kid off the mat, but was pushed aside. Finally, former Harrison coach Dave Mayse got out there and helped get the kid to the bench, where he was escorted out by the cops. I was a little disappointed in how the Harrison coaching staff reacted. It was an embarrassing situation for the kid and Harrison High School. In no way was it funny. I had my 5 year old there with me and there were a ton of other little kids there. Fortunatley my son didn't see what happened so I didn't have to explain it to him.
  23. You don't get caught in a spladle, somebody puts you in it.
