  1. I like wrestlebacks at Regionals too. A first round match-up of 2 vs 3, those could be two of the best four kids there, but one gets eliminated first round.
  2. Do people think of Angel as a worse wrestler than Alex because he had one loss? Is Jason considered a worse wrestler than Alex because he lost?
  3. All the large Fort Wayne area schools outside of Carroll are terrible
  4. Could've should've would've. If forte wasn't in Lecounts weight class last year he's a 3xer. We could play that game all day. If you're counting outstanding tournament from this weekend, sure give it to cash. If you're counting overall resume, I personally don't think it's close. Cash wasnt even number one most of the year because he kept losing to a guy in his weight class.
  5. The junior class is nasty. Hildebrandt, Hudkins, Red, Covaciu, Hughes, Rypel, Woods, Streck, etc 7 guys who can be at least 2x, plus our next 4xer.
  6. Forte and James are the only seniors with four state medals. James is missing the championships though. Pepple and Cash have a year missing from their resumes.
  7. So gotta be forte then even if he loses loses. Better career than both.
  8. A quick search found the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll. 2009-2010 Final Ranking #21 (11-10) -- Finish at Big Tens 6th 2010-2011 Final Ranking #23 (8-8-1) -- Finish at Big Tens 9th 2011-2012 FInal Ranking #25 (10-10) -- Finish at Big Tens 9th 2012-2013 Final Ranking #14 (17-6) -- Finish at Big Tens 9th 2013-2014 Final Ranking Unranked (6-8) -- Finish at Big Tens 11th So the argument for a regime change is that over the past several years, Purdue is basically a .500 team and at the bottom of the Big Ten. Is this acceptable? Shouldn't Purdue fans hope for more regular seasons like 2012-2013 (17-6 ranked #14) and finishes at the Big Tens like 2010 (6th)? Maybe not every season, but maybe more often than it's happening now?
  9. Playing devil's advocate, because I have no dog in this fight, where's the proof that a multi-class system benefits wrestling? Have other states done studies on this? Is there actual data to confirm or deny this? Or is it purely conjecture?
  10. Why? The "team" tournament is a regular season tournament not sponsored by the IHSAA. Two separate events.
  11. Like I said, it's not apples to apples. However, if a team had 3-4 national champion contenders, would they place really high (and potentially win) a team NCAA title? I know teams like Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State, etc get most of their team there and likely score too many points for this to happen. But in a down year a team could rise up and win in a scenario like this. Did Penn State lose duals during their 4-Peat? I'm pretty sure Minnesota beat Penn State in a dual. So the system still isn't perfect.
  12. How many if you only count 1-16? Since 20 don't qualify for state in each class. That might look even more impressive.
  13. It's not quite apples to apples, but an individual tournament is how the NCAA rewards a team title in wrestling.
  14. Sounds like some people are pretty sensitive actually.
  15. That would've been good. Seems to work for my wife every year with the NCAA basketball tournament. True. A paragraph form of the brackets was nice. This guy vs this guy in the top quarter of the bracket. Then you've got a good one between this guy and this guy. Great analysis, my bad.
  16. I picked Hughes last year though and he underperformed a little bit at the state finals. Very few true "locks"
  17. My picks in order of confidence: 1) 126 - Red 2) 152 - Forte 3) 132 - Lee 4) 195 - Rypel (a few studs Tonte, Anderson, Scott, but I think Rypel is that good) 5) 138 - James (had to think twice about putting 138 this high with Cash in this weight, but again I think James is that good) 6) 220 - Woods (finds a way to get it done) 7) 106 - Cummings (one of the weaker weight classes) 8) 182 - Osborn (one of the weaker weight classes) 9) 145 - Covaciu (definitely some guys who could make it interesting: McCormick, Lawrence, etc.) 10) 160 - Hughes (I think he could be higher up on this list, but Schurg makes me hesitate on this pick) 11) 285 - Streck (two nationally ranked studs battle it out) 12) 113 - Pepple (4th at Super32 vs. Konrath Cadet National Champ) 13) 170 - Stevenson (I'll take the defending champ, but this weight class has some studs with Jackson, Harvey, Lydy, etc) 14) 120 - Hudkins (This weight class is a mess. New #1 every update)
  18. Someone to be proud of. He has represented Indiana well: http://www.chargers.com/news/2015/02/03/handwritten-farewell-nick-hardwick A typed transcript of Hardwick’s handwritten farewell letter: To My Beloved Charger Fans: For 11 years of unconditional and unwaivering love and support to me, my wife, Jayme, and our sons, Hudson and Teddy; I thank you dearly. You took me in immediately as one of your family members and allowed me to grow up both personally and professionally in front of you. There are so many memories that we’ve shared together that have brought us closer together. Devastating losses and improbable triumphs alike have forged the bond we now share. As I step aside from the playing field, I charge you, the diehard Charger fan with several tasks. Afford every player the same patience and appreciation for which you have shown me. Allow these young men the opportunity to live their lives’ dreams out in front of you. Do this, and they will fight valiantly for you. Show the Chargers organization an increased level of commitment in the coming years. One thing I’ve learned through my time wearing the Bolt is that if you show them a steadfast commitment, they will repay that commitment and then some. I vow to support the San Diego Chargers unconditionally until the day I pass. I compel you, Chargers blood, to join me with the steely resolve that will be required from this city to ensure that we can accomplish what every one of us wants and deserves to accomplish; a Super Bowl Championship, right here, in America’s Finest City, San Diego. Go Bolts! With Love, Nick Hardwick
  19. Semi-state is probably the most likely ceiling for an athlete like.
  20. I probably agree more with college basketball being a joke in terms of academics, due to the one-and-done rule. I think a lot more football players get their degree before the NFL than NBA players. I know some schools recruit the types of kids who want to finish their degree (Stanford, Duke, ND, Northwestern, etc.). Graduation rate is important to some schools.
