  1. The idea of holding a kid out of a good match for a sectional seed goes against what a lot of top programs try to do. They go and look for the best competition. Just look at some of the schedules for the top teams in the state, it is brutal. I would rather a kid be battle tested and able to handle the tough matches they will face during their tournament run. If they only wrestle kids they can beat, how will they be able to pull out a tough win versus someone who may be a little better than them come tournament time? Tony Currie
  2. 60 and 105 filled. I have one wild card left and looking for either a 40 or 150. We just don't have those weights in our club. Thanks
  3. 2 wildcards spots left open for 60, 150 or 175. Really want a 60.
  4. We have 3 wildcard spots open for the ISWA State Duals this Sunday at Franklin HS. Need 60, 105, and 150. Send me a PM or email at currie5fam@gmail.com Thanks Tony Currie Jet Wrestling Club
  5. A few random thoughts from a small school club after reading the above. We feed a high school with an enrollment of 400 kids total. Last year was our first crack at the State Duals and we had a great time. We struggle to fill the upper weights. I am 2-3 deep from 65-85. I tell our parents and kids that I will never bump one of our kids for a "wildcard". We take all kids that want to be part of our dual team. We substitute throughout the day and give each kid a chance to wrestle as part of the team. We finish in the middle of the pack at local tourneys and were winless at the State Duals last year. Last weekend we took a team to a local tourney and were able to fill all but the 40, 115, and 175 with our kids. Our goal is to develop the team aspect of our sport and prepare our kids for that when they reach HS. The academies have really improved the quality of wrestling for the younger kids. The fact is most of these academies are located in larger cities/ metropolitan areas and the smaller rural clubs will have to overcome this to compete. Maybe it is time for an All star division and a community division. You could eliminate wild cards altogether and adjust Forfeit points down to 3 or 4 for the community division. My experience with duals so far is that some teams are all about the win no matter what and will fill their roster with all stars for a local event. And some clubs are about developing their own kids. We will continue to participate in the State Duals for the experience it gives our kids to compete against the best clubs our state has to offer. We have set our goal this year to win a couple duals at the State event. Tony Currie Adams Central Jet Wrestling Club
  6. Very cool excerpt. I really enjoy hearing stories about the history of the sport.
  7. Very cool. I really like looking at each school's history information. It is a huge undertaking. Your efforts are appreciated.
  8. We have our elementary club wreslte our rival team's club (South Adams) prior to the JV and Varsity each year. The little kids bring in mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, etc. The goal is that they stay and watch the HS match as well. The little kids also bring alot of energy to the gym. We have done this for a few years and will continue to do so. Tony Currie Adams Central
  9. Adams Central has qualified at least one wrestler each year beginning 1999 (16 years). 1998 was the only year since 1980 that AC failed to qualify a wrestler to the State Finals (34 of the last 35 years). A nice run for a 1A school. Tony Currie
  10. Adams Central and South Adams will wrestle our Elementary Clubs against each other prior to our High School dual tomorrow night. We have been doing it for 3-4 years now. We use it as an opportunity to promote our High School programs to our future wrestlers and parents. Tony Currie
  11. Adams Central has had 2 events. We finished 2nd to Hamilton Southeastern at The John Hurrle Tournament in Indianapolis on 11/23. Lost a dual versus Leo 45-30. Several matches coming in the next week and a half. South Adams, Bellmont, Garrett, Woodlan, Southern Wells, and New Haven Superdual (do not know pairings yet). Tony Currie
  12. We did not ask if he wanted the win or wanted to wrestle. I told him the match was over no matter what. That was decided by the trainer when the ref said decide now. I asked him if he wanted to default or win the match. He said he wanted to win. The kid is a competitor, how am I to tell my kid that the other wrestler is better than you and you don't deserve to win. The match was 2-1 in the first period. I know how to set up a cross face cradle. It is not by taking the ankle against the back toward the head. The ref called an illegal move immediately. As I said before, this situation was unfortunate all the way around. At no point were we trying to take a dive or take the easy way out. Same situation happened to us last year at conference. AC slammed a kid and we were DQ. The kid wrestled the rest of the day as well. I didn't see Joe, who is in our conference, on here saying that the kid didn't deserve the win. 13. I will explain what happened. Kaine injured his back in an illegal bow and arrow. Injury time started. The trainer came to the mat. She was evaluating him. The two minutes expired. The trainer would not let him continue. The match was 2-1 in favor of Malcolm in the first period. This is not a situation anyone wants to happen. The choice was made to accept the dq. He was cleared to wrestle the next round by the medical staff, so he did. As I said, a tough situation on both sides. One kid's season is over. How is it fair to end our season on an illegal move. Would have like to finish it on the mat. Please do not bad talk a kid. Tony Currie Adams Central.
  14. Hope he recovers fast. I saw him wrestle this summer at our event and was impressed with him. Tony Currie Adams Central
  15. That is our understanding. Adams Central has dropped a SuperDual to be able to participate at IHSWCA duals. Tony Currie
  16. Sorry to hear about the loss of Nick. The whole SA family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Tony
  17. 1. Jimtown (kids from Elkhart area) 2. FW Carroll 3. Northwestern 4. AC 5. SA 6. Snider Most teams were formed from kids from different schools. I picked the name of the team based on who was coaching the team. (Carroll was all Carroll kids and AC had 1 non AC kid) Quality individuals from several schools participated. We took individuals and placed them on teams to fill the open spots. Tony Currie
  18. Congratulations to Jimtown for winning the team title. Thanks to all who participated. We were able to have a good day of wrestling and raise some money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Tony Currie
  19. Please see Adams Central Takedown Cancer Duals update in the tournament info section. Thanks Tony Currie
  20. Jet Wrestling Club (Adams Central) does not pay. Volunteer only. Mostly the high school coaches with help from some dads. Tony Currie
