Having been to few Sumo matches since I've been living in Japan I have to agree. Sumo is far and away more exciting than those other archaic wrestling styles. I mean, Folkstyle is one big snooze fest that should have been replaced by Freestlye long ago.

Having spent a few years in Japan in the Marines and watching amateur Sumo events.....sober or not they're just a tad bit more entertaining than Greco.  Even the smaller guys are as stout as a German tank.

  2. Veazy is legit.  I've watched him since elementary duals on several different teams, as well as middle school.  He'll compete day 1 in FWSS.  If Duke Myers is at 182 next year with Veazy....I'd pay a lot of money to watch that.  Hopefully Bellmont finds a way to wrestle Snider next season like they were to this year (thanks Covid).

Doster of New Haven.  Not really the same build as his older brother who was a great wrestler.  Very fast and strong.  IMO will compete for a title at FWSS next year at the lower weights.

Davis of Leo.  Is he coming off an injury or am I thinking of someone else?  His issue will be coming in to a tough weight class as a Freshman.

Jay County has a couple 8th graders that are pretty tough.  Look for them to reload an already young roster.

Darkhorse....from Bluffton.  Levi Johns I think is his name.  Should project to a 106 as a Freshman.  Look out ACAC and FWSS, that kid is tough.

  3. I cheer for Adams County schools in the regular season for all sports.  Mostly Adams Central, but always want the South Adams and Bellmont kids to do well.  At the Finals, I agree with you.  Anyone from the FWSS has me rooting for them.  I was gutted when Brege lost at SS and Eli Johnson lost last night, as well as the Jay County kids.  Jay County however is young and has some great 8th graders too that will help them keep building.

Could also see AC winning the Fort Wayne Semi-State next year IF everyone stays healthy.. possibly 3 champs and 2 qualifiers.

We have a really solid group of kids in our system.  All grades.  I've watched these kids in elementary duals and the Friday night things we used to do for the kids.  After Bellmont's super Junior class graduates we'll be county champs for at least a few years to come.  Take that to the pay window.

Our middle school wrestles Bellmont MS next week.  It'll be a blowout again.  They'll win a few, they're strong in the lower/mid weights.  Other than that we'll smoke them.

You think Duke eventually tops the podium? If so what weight?

I do, yes.  I think he stays around 170-182 all 4 years, max being 195 as a Senior but I just don't see it.  He's a little older than a lot of Freshman due to his medical issues and not sure how much he'll grow.  I think his unconventional style of wrestling, which looks Russian/Judo to me, catches many off guard.  He can also wrestle straight up with doubles, HC's, sweep singles, etc.

I see him contending as early as next year.  Remember, he just started practicing heavy a month ago and he made it to State and could have gone in as a 1 or 2 if things went his way.  Just imagine a full year of practice under him and a season of matches with the team.

I do know he'd look a lot better with a red singlet on....

Probably a super fuel efficient ecco friendly paper airplane that will win them national recognition!

Seymour's gym was a REALLY good place to fly paper airplanes. I'll gladly keep The Ford Center though.

I don't know man.  I've seen a few nose dive less than 4 rows later into the back of a mullet of a drunk Jay County fan on more than 1 occasion.  Said drunk mullet Jay County fan was too incoherent to even notice.

Then again, it only takes 1 to gently glide from the upper deck all the way across the mats into the opposing seats of glowing green of Cathedral.

We only have one middle school being Oak Hill Junior High. We hope to keep reloading. The past three years we have sent 10 state qualifiers and won 3 medals. We also have had a feeder program for the past 15 years as well. So no I didn’t think we will end up like Southern Wells.

Glad to hear.  I watched those Southern Wells kids since they had velcro wrestling shoes.  Everyone knew as soon as they graduated it would get thin fast.  It's great to see  schools from our area compete in the state tourney.  Good luck next weekend and in the future.

I guess because of the money to be had it will be football more than likely.  But if he listens to those in his corner and stays humble: sky is the limit.  And I concur he is a rare athlete.  By the way those AC boys are looking great.  I only wrestled one before: Jim Marbach.  I’ll just tell you.  It wasn’t fun.  This dude got second in the state at 145 my senior year and shows up at Huntington North at a freestyle tournament the next year at 136.5.  He didn’t pin or tech me.  But it was again not fun. Good luck to you and yours.

Right back at ya.  I've enjoyed the resurgence of the Snider program and root for them yearly.  Loved your 170 killing it yesterday, and was bummed for Shelton going down as a Senior.  The kids program at Snider and the early season tourney for them in previous years has been a fun way to kick off the season for my grandkids.  I know you guys have an amazing young kid coming up in the upper mid-weights or lower heavy weights that will compete day 1 as a Freshman next year on a State level.

We've had 23 straight years of sending at least 1 kid to State.  Twenty Three.  Think about that for a second.  In our tiny farming/amish community in which other sports come first (football) we can compete with the best kids in state.  I have family in several of the area wrestling rooms.  AC does it right.  It doesn't matter your name.  Hard work pays off.  Earn your spot on the team by winning a wrestle off, not your last name or your dad coaching.  Our elementary teams and our middle school teams beat many top schools around.  They work the kids and make them earn it, and build on those kids all the way through High School.  All the while they have fun.  Watch one of our middle school duals on Facebook.  The kids, coaches, and fans have a blast with it. Every match.  Even JV.

Good luck to your guys next weekend.

  9. Heyerly having a good chance to place is huge for our Junior.  Currie with a tough draw but, anything can happen.  Uhlman could make a podium for sure!  Too bad we didn't have Cook most of this year.  Could have easily been up there too.

South Adams was a huge disappointment.  Loshe got crushed to death, nearly literally by a couple knees to his shoulder and chest, Dull going in as a 4, and Summersett IMO had a chance to win it all but lost to the eventual champ.

Bellmont has Ike, and that's about it.  He has a good draw again on his half of the bracket.  Litchfield will probably be an early out, and Myers has the number 1 kid in state.  Myers hit his inside trip twice in the semis but couldn't stick it, then got manhandled and finished 4th.  Could have easily been 1st had he hit those trips.

Norwell, man o man.  Brege broke my heart.  I hope Eli pulls though.

Jay County, Wood could open some eyes next weekend.  Rowles could place easily too.  Clark is young and when healthy could contend for a medal in the next few years.

  10. I did really well in my Jay County Regional picks, so here it goes...

    106: Tishner, Rowles, Weimer, Clark

113: Ruble (and then the rest...), Brooks, Brady, Martin

    120: Sprague, Wood, Lewis, Puckett

126: Bertsch (and then the rest...he looked outstanding the last 2 weeks), Olsen, Kinnick, Higgins

132: Heath (and then the rest...), Stroud, Baker, Litchfield

    138: Arthur, Gerencser, Hooley, Tuttle

145: Chacon (and then the rest), Abbott, Shepherd, Levits

    152: Currie, Ulrick, Hardcastle, Jones

    160: Hilger, Johnson, Buchanan, Farnell

    170: Porter, Myers, Lundy, Morris

    182: Brege, Summersett, Lockwood, Thompson

    195: Heyerly, Khaoucha, Lepper, Grider

    220: Clifford, Hinton, Beck, Dilbone

    285: Erb, Muncie, Orr, Villafuere

  11. I'm not sure if this is on par with some of the state studs and mega upsets but....AJ Dull getting beat in the semi-finals by pin from Jonah Jones of Monroe Central...then Dull injury forfeits to 4th.  This could be the makings of a big upset next week.  Currie won the bracket with hardly breaking a sweat but Dull getting 4th is huge.

Speaking of South Adams, Loshe somehow dealt with his injury and placed 3rd today.  I didn't think he'd make it since he's forfeited so many matches but chose his battles wisely and came home third.  Radio said he has a bad pulled muscle in his back or shoulder.  He played his cards right and avoided the tough kids.  At least that's 1 more Adams County kid going to Semi-State.

At 170, and I can't believe nobody has mentioned it, Duke Myers pinned Lucas Fox from Delta.  I posted about Myers before Sectional brackets were "official"...that kid is going to ruin a lot of brackets...and already has for several kids.  Good luck to the 4th place kid he'll have in the first round at SS, and the next in the blood round....

Hey IHSAA, time to use The Berne Witness for the Jay County Regional and Ft Wayne Semi State! Much better streaming. Why I didn't pay for it and just listened to WZBD. WZBD has been much better about not being just Bellmont focused. Should have gave the customers options if we were paying on which broadcast we wanted to pay for. I'd pay for The Berne Witness over Track. This area knows how to cover High School Wrestling! We have the only weekly High School Wrestling Radio Show in Indiana! Mr. Faulkner has even been a guest!

100% agreed on both The Berne Witness and WZBD doing a much better job.  Although I could have done without the screaming like a school girl-type of reaction to Duke pinning Fox.
